Speed skating reminds me of track and field, so I dig that, too. Bobsled, luge and skeleton have vehicles, so I can relate to that.

I don't care about figure skating or the X-Games-style slope sports, even though their competitors are great athletes. The hockey leaves me non-plussed, too, since I already can see so much quality pucks through the NHL and World Juniors.

Maybe it's because those are the two Winter Olympic sports you can see regularly on network or major cable TV. There is a certain fresh appeal to seeing niche sports at a high level on network TV for only two weeks every four years, as Zeppo said.
That's the problem with American TV coverage of the Olympics, especially the way NBC has been doing it, which is to tape delay and tease the most popular events for hours.

It's really retarded in the age of the Internet, that they're trying to force this outmoded broadcast model.

Even their stupid app. is very limited in letting you view the events you're interested in on a on-demand basis.

If they let people choose which events to watch or just watch the popular ones, I would suspect a lot of the minor sports would get even less attention. After the downhill skiing, a lot of viewers might tune out.

Right now, there isn't much going on other than some NBA so I'll flip to NBC once in awhile but rarely catch an event that I'm interested in. So change the channels again or watch some other programming, though a lot of shows are skipping one or two weeks so that they don't get crushed too much by the Games.

And really, despite the magnificence of some of the games, venues like Beijing and Sochi just turn you off, because they're endorsing bad behavior by those govts.

Team Canada just cruised against Austria today, Finland should provide a tougher challenge next game. Babcock has a tough choice between Price and Luongo. I am saying go with experience. Jeff Carter had a hat trick, Crosby needs to step it up a notch as C. Kunitz seems to be playing without much chemistry in his line.

Wow what a game. It lived up to the hype. Any change these two can meet in the finals to play for gold?

Oshie doing what he does! That's why he got that last roster spot over Brandon Saad and it looks like it's paid off for Team USA. Oshie is a beast!

Herb for the win!

I missed it. I know this should get the USA a bye but with 12 out of 12 moving on to the "playoffs" I Just didnt care enough for this round to get up after a long night of hockey. In retrospect, hearing how good the hockey was, I f***ed that up.

Sergei Bobrovsky just learned that there are other ways to get "Oshied."

That was fun.

I fell asleep during the 2nd intermission. I am a bad person. :(

Lots of highlights on the NBC Olympics webpage though, including the whole shootout unedited.

Watching Canada Finland and Im not seeing that passion or great work from Canada. Or maybe I expect too much.

With every team advancing, are using this is as practice? or is this it?

NHL refs beget you prison rules hockey. Late third and OT were brutal. Dangerous and blatant cross checks, boarding and slashing uncalled.

Wish this game had been on before I woke up.

No, they do need to improve a lot. With all those players it's a matter of time before they explode, problem is, each round will get tougher and you're not going to blow away teams like Russia, or USA.

Offensively, coach Blysma guys have been dominant. Along Russia they've impressed me the most.

Looking at the brackets, a semifinal showdown between USA and Canada is very likely, with the winner advancing to the finals to face Russia most likely

They better do it soon. I know they won today but it was so dysfunctional. I do not expect them to beat Phil Kessel, TJ Oshie and the gang in the probable semi final playing like that.

Snowboard Cross is awesome, like a real SSX.

The American girl had a big lead to make it to the finals but she wiped out towards the end.

But some of the competitors are from countries which probably don't have the mountains for this sport, like competitors from the UK and Australia. Not as mismatched as the Jamaican bobsled team but I guess they found a sport they can afford to train for even if it likely meant traveling out of country.
