Seriously though, looking forward to this game when I eventually get a PS4 so kind of bummed no multiplayer. I don't care about the 30fps.

This is actually fantastic news as far as I'm concerned. So many single player modes destroyed by focus on multi-player it's nice to see a team put all out effort into SP. Especially for me as my non-sports multi-player enjoyment/time just is not there anymore. Just hope it's as good as advertised.

Questions as I prepare to set up the Xbox One system tomorrow.

If I set up my username as the primary account, will my son and daughter also have access to Xbox Live?

Do they need to have their own individual username/account?

Does the set-up process include having the Kinect establish face recognition?

Is the whole process fairly seamless?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I agree. I would have preferred whatever resources the debs on Tomb Raider used for multiplayer to have been put into the single player mode. Or hell, just keep the savings so that the game was less risky for making a profit. It was a total waste to add MP to that game.

And the The Order looks like a great single player experience that doesn't need MP at all.

XB1 requires only the primary family member on that console to pay for xbox live. Other family members can have their own xbox live ID and then can access xbox live on that console under their own ID, with their own separate friends list and achievement tracking.

If your son and daughter will be using the console on a regular basis, you should give them their own individual user name and account. If only once in a long while, they could just play on your account or with a guest account. I'm not sure if you can game on xbox live on a guest account, unless you are logged on too maybe?

Set-up process will include Kinect face/voice recognition. Setup was very seamless.

The new Kinect in heavier. There was enough room for me to place mine on the TV stand that my TV sits on and it works fine in that position.

Xbox Fitness is free for the first year and worth checking out if anyone likes to exercise at home.

You can also play for free a small part (wave runner race) of Kinect Motion Sports.

TV integration is nice, except for channel changing with voice commands. I just use the cable remote.

Kinect voice works great for the most part (once you learn the commands). I do have problems with it in a crowded room though.

Somewhere in the settings menu you can make it so the XB1 will also turn on/off your other components (TV/Cable box/AV system).

For the kinect face recognition / auto sign in I ended up turning that off personally. It seemed to cause more headaches than it was worth with multiple users.

Works flawlessly for me too... As soon as I walk in the room (even from the side), it's all Hi Leadfoot!. "Hi Xbox...." Yes, I really say it, but in a very low "I really don't want to talk to you right now I'm just walking by to get to the refrigerator" kind of voice.....

EDIT: Sorry, didn't realize the comment was about multiple users.

Yeah, it works fine when it's just me. As soon as the wife enters the room and wants to workout or whatever, all hell breaks loose getting her profile in and active. Horrific UI really.

This is widely reported, but we have 4 profiles on my machine and except for occasionally confusing my wife and daughter (both of whom wear glasses), it's never a problem. On the rare occasion that it messes them up, it's as simple as pressing Menu/Switch Profile to clear up.

There are UI issues that bug me, but this is not one of them.

We have no problem with it picking up me, my wife or my daughter. My only problem is that it doesn't always get people signed out. I've taken to just leaving the cover over the camera that came with the TV mount. We never use the gestures for anything, but use the voice control often. Occasionally the camera would pick up something and you get that ghost hand floating around waiting for me to perform a gesture, when all I'm doing is watching a show.

I like the UI, though. For watching TV, video, and playing games, it is easy to bounce around to what you need to find. Adding tiles to the left for my most used apps makes it even better.

Yep it recognizes me or my daughter just fine... sometimes it takes a few minutes after we walk into the room.

The problem for me was when we were playing multiplayer and I would pick up someone else's controller to help them. Of course we don't have that problem on Xbone now because we don't play games on it. :D

Yep, I turned auto sign in off for my two boys. Left it on for me. Much less frustrating now.

Got the Xbox One hooked up yesterday afternoon. There was several minutes of frustration, which ultimately was a result of incompetence. I had a little trouble getting everything hooked up properly, but finally did.

- The voice commands work quite well, but I'm not sold on them while watching tv. After less than a day, I can't see changing the channels very often with my voice.

- I'm glad I waited until now to purhase one, because I'm hoping the update on Feb. 11 makes things a bit more responsive.

- The UI definitley seems a bit slower than the PS4 UI. Right now, it just feels rather clunky.

- I have no problems with the controller, and proably put the PS4 one slightly ahead of the Xbox One.

- Forza 5 is gorgeous and Madden 25 looks on par with the PS4 version. The voice commands in Madden 25 is pretty sweet.

- Powerstar Golf is definitely fun, and I'm sure I'll play it quite a bit.

- Obviously, I'm in bad bad shape because the Xbox Fitness kicks my butt. But, that's a good thing!

- Asthetically, I love how the Xbox One looks. And it's whisper quiet after the games finally install.

- Overall, it hasn't blown me away like I thought it would (still prefer the PS4), but I think over time, it'll mature in to a wonderful console, as long as MS continues to support it with updates.

The best thing next-gen has done for me is kill my urge for gaming.

Waiting for new games + getting free games that look like old gen titles has opened my life up to things I've missed for quite some time : book reading, woodwork, crafting, exercising, and cooking!

Next gen is the best thing that's happened to me. I am realizing how much I'm missing out of life than sitting my ass on a couch talking to a tv.

If you're on the fence, stay on it. you don't need any of these at the moment. And if the games this next gen are going to offer the same experience as last gen, which it seems like, then you really don't need to buy one ever.

QFT !

Which is why I bought a Wii U. I'm already tired of installing the game then downloading updates which take forever on my shitty internet provider. The worst offender so far is Capcom with their 13GB update for DR3 which is forced and not needed other than they hoping you'll buy the DLC which is included in that update. I have 2 PS4 games and 3 XB1 games and unless it's a must have i'll pass. I'm not even going to do the yearly sports upgrades like I have in the past. So at least next gen has saved me money. The PS4 isn't nearly as bad as the XB1 and with a subscription for PSN+ i'm just taking advantage of all the free stuff for now.

Yeah, I never use voice for that, or even ever bring up the One Guide. I use voice for pause and pause, and for jumping straight to Netflix, Amazon or a game. I rarely watch live TV, even sports, so those features are pretty pointless.

Make sure you use the start button on tiles, as that is usually the quick way to do things that people complain is too clunky about the UI.

I'm not going to go as far as to say "you must buy one now!" but I could not disagree more with this sentiment. My experience has been very different.

While I do tend to be more of a gamer than many here, the Xbone has truly further enkindled my enthusiasm even in the midst of the early launch paucity of titles. As much as I'd like to dive deeper into the 360 games I played over Xmas when I was without the next-gen systems and finish off that next playthrough of Dragon Age Origins, or dive into the later episodes of Telltale's Walking Dead which I bought on sale, every time I hit the guide button while watching TV and think about gaming, I get drawn right to FIFA or Battlefield on the Xbone.

These early releases for next gen are for my money so much better, so much "more" than their last-gen counterparts that they really seem like entirely new games to me. Especially FIFA, which just about fulfills the promise on the field for sports games that we've been pining for through the last several console generations. It's that close to being the perfect soccer game. Add in Forza, and I've got all the gaming I need, because all these games have depth to spare. When it's all wrapped with the ability to have the TV going on the side while I wait for an online matchup or a battlefield map to load, or to check out game clips from friends and others, or especially to turn the whole system on and off with a simple voice command, well, there certainly nothing here that would make me say "the same experience as last gen." And yes, I'm talking about gameplay, graphics, sound and ancillary gaming features as well as "snap" and other non-game specific features of the system.

But hey, to each his own.

So, I played a bit more with the Xbox One this afternoon, and I'm starting to understand the intricacies of the system. I pinned my favorite games and apps (Powerstar Golf, Peggle 2, Xbox Fitness, Youtube, ESPN, Skype, etc. This makes for a more seamless method of moving around the UI. Thanks for the suggestion Aristo.

What I'm not overly thrilled about is if I turn off the system, then I have to wait longer than I want to watch tv because it's hooked up through the Xbox One. Thus, I've told everyone in the house that when they're done doing whatever they are doing, leave the "watch tv" function on. That way, when we just want to watch tv, we can use the remote and there is no waiting for the system to boot up. The downside however is that the Xbon One will always remain on. Does anyone else always leave their system on? Or is there another suggestion? At this point, I don't want to disconnect that feature.
