Miller can be acquired without giving up Allen, Jaskin, or Rattie. We have our 2014 1st rounder and we have a Edmonton's 2nd rounder and we have two dman in Schmaltz and Vannelli that would probably be the prospect going if we have to give somebody up. My guess would be a conditional first depending on if Miller resigns here and someone like Cade Fairchild. JR reported on his twitter Monday with all the speculation that the Blues are definitely interested in Miller.
Would still be a stupid move.. I'm confident in Halak and don't think getting Miller would get us any closer to the cup than without him. WE NEED SCORING!

I think it's all BS though.. putting some fire in Halak and doubt it happens.

Western Conf teams suggest the Rangers are gathering intel on Chris Stewart. Callahan for Stewart would be a sweet deal for the Blues.

The Canucks are on a downfall spirall. Fast. Losers of a dozen games in the last sixteen games, playing with no emotions and looking slow and old. They can't score squat and the PP is a complete disaster.

Lost against DET last night and will be facing the brat Marchand's bad Bruins in a back to back.

Sure, they've been riddled with injuries again and M. Gillis has to seriously consider being sellers this season instead of trying to add a piece here and there.

As it is today, they hold the last playoffs spot in the west with the Yotes breathing right behind their skulls. With the tough Pacific division save the Alberta teams, they may not make it to the dance.

Torts is going nowhere, so Gillis has to start moulding a team that fits the fiery coach style. Unfortunately for the GM, there are a lot of dudes with no trade clauses making things very difficult.

If they lose badly tonight, 'Nucks nation will be all over this team.

Never a dull moment in Lotus land when it comes to the Canucks. Did Ryan Kesler ask for a trade? The team has been struggling, still hampered with a rash of injuries and struggling to score goals. M. Gillis hasn't denied the rumor either, so my guess is that where there's a bit of smoke...If true there won't be a shortage of interest his value is very high, although he's hurt now from the Olympics. Something is going to happen between now and next week's trade deadline.

Lots of trade rumors, but the last few years have seen so few fireworks at the deadline.

I heard Kesler's agent denied he made a trade request. With his injury and salary, he might be stuck in Vancouver until the draft.

He"s making around 5 per I think which is a steal and signed for another couple of years. Hey, if there's cap room in your team I think that's one of the possible landing slots for #17. Flyers always wanted a guy like Kes and with his style of play, he would fit like a glove. But, it's all rumors for now of course.

Meh, he looks like 50 point player going forward to me. I wouldn't call that a steal at $5m and making more than every forward on the team not named Giroux. I think any team trading for him would have to trust a change of scenery would boost his production.

Flyers need skaters, mostly on defense. Certainly no need for centers right now. Flyers already threw $4.5m at Lecavalier last offseason and have B. Schenn rising up to handle second line center duties.

As a solid two way forward star, solid on faceoffs along a gritty character his pay is below market value today. According to Pierre Lebrun from ESPN, it doesn't sound as though Kesler actually made a formal trade request at any time, although looking at where the Canucks are today, a change of scenery could definitely benefit both parties. If he did ask for a trade, it makes Gillis job a bit easier to re-tool the team. I also doubt that he will be moved by next week, because I am pretty sure that the asking price is sky high. VAN is pretty much in the mix for the playoffs but they have to win about 60% of the remaining games and in the ultra competitive western conference that maybe too much to ask for a team that's getting older and slower.

Kesler is 29 and can produce a lot still for the next 3 years or so when healthy, you always know that he's going to give you 100% and a guy not many players are fond of playing against.

Now as a Canucks fan, whether he did ask for a trade or not, it's an option that the GM should definitely look at between now and draft day.

The real odd thing going on now is the whole Marty St. Louis situation.

He requested a trade because Canada/TB GM Yzerman didn't initially pick him for Team Canada? And he only would accept a trade to the Rangers? What?

The long rumored move of Miller to the a Blues comes to fruition. Along S. Ott they are adding some depth to an already good team. Halak and Stewart going the Buffalo way along some future picks.

We'll see if they can resign them in the summer.

Great deal for the Blues...didn't have to give up Allen, Jaskin, or Rattie. Stewart has no heart and Halak has the emotional make up of a 13 year girl! LETS GO BLUES!

We have been down this road before..

WE NEED SCORING!!!

Last two games we lose 1-0 and 1-0, I guess that's the goalies fault.

Halak has never fit in that locker room...it's been mentioned over and over. He didn't mesh with his teammates for whatever reason. Blues are one of the top scoring teams in the league, the recent lack of scoring is because teams are tightening up as we head into the playoffs and some olympic hangover. Army made that deal for Miller for the guys playing in front of him. The entire team has been upgraded mentally. Ott adds to our nastiness which will be needed for the playoffs especially against the west. We didn't give up anything other than draft picks. Halak wasn't coming back and Stewart just has no heart and needed a fresh start. Carrier is a marginal prospect at best. Blues rebuild has been done for a couple of years, their time to win is now. The core is set for the next 4 years, so those draft picks mean nothing for this current Blues team.

According to R. Rossi from the Pitt Tribune, Pens and 'Nucks are exchanging some ideas about Ryan Kesler:

You are right.. we are #2 in GF/G behind only Chicago.. I'm actually shocked at that. In goals allowed we are #3.

Hopefully you are right.. adding Ott is a plus over Stewart. Being a life long Blues fan, I've just seen us go after goaltenders in hope that's the answer too many times. :)

They were fighting it those first two periods though....they just looked really bad. Glad to see them pull it out in the 3rd and get Miller that win in his debut. Schwartz though....damn he is just a freaking great player.
Only thing I'm worried about now is Halak ending up in Minnesota with a high likelyhood of meeting them in the first round. We've had enough bad luck over the years that you would have to think that is the kind of thing that will come back and bite us in the ass for sure

That would be our luck.. lol.. like Fuhr going down.. oh we have had some history of goofyness with this team over the years.

I'm hoping the poor start was having so many players in the Olympics.

Two league sources told the Daily News that the Flyers have tabled a "substantial offer” to try and pry Kesler from the Canucks. They have also asked about acquiring Vancouver defenseman Alexander Edler, who is reportedly on the market, as part of a larger trade - though that combined price is steep.

Nooooooo.

The obvious case against:
Edler was a true bright spot for Sweden at the Olympics, often playing ahead of Coyotes star Oliver Ekman-Larsson. He is the puck-moving defenseman the Flyers truly need to add.

As for Kesler, a one-time 40-goal scorer, the Flyers’ need for him is less pressing. Sure, he is a consummate, two-way forward with a slew of intangibles and legitimate scoring prowess. But they also already have one big-name player, Vinny Lecavalier, playing out of position on the wing because of a logjam down the middle.

Plus, Schenn - set to become a much cheaper restricted free agent this summer - has similar points this season as Kesler, despite being 7 years younger.

Yeah, if you remember the love of the Flyers for Kes, it goes well back to the Clarke years when he signed him to an offer sheet and he wasn't quite well known yet. That's why I also mentioned he would suit well there a couple of posts above, if he indeed wanted to leave VAN. He denied such demand. With the other Sedin now probably gone for a month with yet another injury, I am starting to kiss this season good bye. The team just can't score with the new system that Torts wants them to play. Now, make no mistakes, whether it's Philly or Pitts, the price is going to be sky high. Gotta love the battle of Pennsylvania. 8)

If it happens there's no doubt that Schenn would have to be part of the deal, I doubt Holmgren would let Couturier go which is my preference.

But in terms of really pressing needs, Edler would fit the mould better in your team, good size, he just needs to add some nastiness to his game. He also has a NTC mind you, so interesting 24 hours.

Nothing but distractions in Vancouver Ville since the Olympics. While everyone is waiting to see who will win the Kesler sweepstakes, Roberto Luongo is heading back to his home in FLO for Markstrom and another player. Details are still coming in, this is big as I am sure Canucks will retain some of the money owed to Bobby Lou for this deal to go through. This team is officially in a reset mode. It all makes sense now why he didn't start the Heritage classic game with the Sens when he was visibly upset.

I wish Lou nothing but success with the Panthers, he's a class act guy, arguably the best goaltender that VAN ever had and what an irony that he'll be stopping the pucks now along Tim Thomas.

Also with A. Macdonald moving to PHI, you can rest on any rumors of A. Edler going there.

Quite a day.

I didn't expect MacDonald to be coming to the Flyers, but given the state of their defense, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see more adjustments. Meszaros and/or Timonen could go, Flyers still probably kicking the tires on Edler/Vatanen/Myers/Ehrhoff/Byfuglien....

A year ago, the tandem Schneider-Luongo was an embarrassment of riches. Today they are both gone in Vancouver, and Canucks are only trusting the services of first year back up in Eddie Lack and a very good potential in J. Markstrom albeit a bit raw.

I wonder how much the benching of Tortorella over the weekend on Lou (which was wrong IMO) forced Gillis' hand to get this deal going quickly, although he's really cleaning after his own mess when he signed Luongo to that long term deal a few years back.

The other player coming to the 'Nucks dressing from is S. Matthias a big centreman that can play in the second line but will probably fit better playing with Z. Kassian on the banging line.
