Haven't really paid much attention to this one, since the last one apparently was so braindead in so many areas, but this video looks like they've got a good handle on the drafting aspects. No real superman rubberband stuff. Like it, other than all of the fake cars. What's up with that?

Funny, played this game quite a bit since release and never saw this thread.
But fake cars? Not sure what cars you saw that were fake. The 26 Josh Wise ran in some races, the 87 with Front Row Joe same thing. There are a lot of "start and park" teams in NASCAR that aren't very well-known that make up the field most of the time. Robbie Gordon's #7, Dave Blaney's #36, Stremme's #30...they're all real cars. They didn't put "fictional" cars into the game.
As to the game itself--it's a mess when you turn up tire wear and try to use pit stops in a shorter race. When I bump it up to Champion AI and run X1 or X2 wear on a 20% or Longer race, it's challenging as hell and actually very fun to race. But the pit stop AI pulls me right out of it. Seeing AI cars leave the pits and move right up the track...into a train of full-speed cars, wrecking and causing a caution every time...just baffles me. Some tracks the cars line up conga-line style and run nose to tail until you start to pass them and they split up. Leaders coming up on lap cars won't pass, they just get stuck behind them.
There are numerous little nagging issues, but for the most part, I have a good time when running it. Especially if I run a 20% or longer race with lower wear values so the field spreads out.

I got this from Gamefly this past week and I'm pleasantly surprised by it so far. I wasn't expecting much after reading some of the early reviews. I haven't raced in conditions where more than one pit was required, but I have seen some glaring problems there. The actual racing has been pretty solid and the car handling has a realistic feel, even with a Microsoft Speed Wheel and even the thumbstick controller (my Fanatec Clubsport pedals are still broken
).
I raced a 9 lapper with 3X wear on fuel consumption at Watkins Glen. It was one of the best console racing experiences against AIs I'd ever had... and this was with the stock Microsoft wireless controller!

I know there are some issues with pit stops and cars reentering ... but I was curious if anyone had kept at it with this game and how the actual racing AI and experience (minus the pitting issue) compare to NASCAR 09 (or just compare to other games in general). I've heard that AI cars have trouble "seeing" the player car sometimes and run right through ... .

Anyone else still playing this game? Have the problems been fixed with the latest patch? I just bought it from the MS Store for $14.99 and was wondering if you guys still like the game?

When I saw the title and Teal was the thread-starter, I was afraid he was stuck in a 2012 time warp

I bought it used after buying the Fanatec CSR Elite pedals to replace my non-repairable ClubSport V1 pedals. Overall, I enjoy the game, but when it stubs its toe it'll really have you scratching your head. I've got the force feedback and wheel settings tuned to where it's a tough call between this one and Forza 4, as to which has the most satisfying force feedback performance. I prefer the racing in this game to Forza 4's clinical atmosphere. Yes, the AI cars still scare the heck out of me entering the track, but I've learned to take a defensive posture when they're doing so and I can survive most of their dalliances now. There's also the inexplicably heavy brake checking - on occasion - going into turns, but I've learned how to predict and deal with that.
I haven't bought the online pass yet because I know what a disaster the 2011 game was online. If I keep enjoying it as much as I have been over the last two weeks offline, I may buy the online pass as long as there's enough traffic online to warrant it. I don't see that much discussion about this game online though...

I got it today from MS and I gotta say it's miles better than anything EA did on the 360. The last fun Nascar game was Nascar 2005 on the original Xbox and PS2.
When I launched the game it downloaded something called Inside Line but it's listed as a $24.99 add on in the marketplace. What's the difference between the two?

However, there are many who will be disappointed with how far the downloadable content reaches. You can use the brand new cars in the single player and online mode, yet you are unable to create a career/single season with the brand new cars. This is a real head scratcher because many use the career/single season aspect of major sports titles repeatedly and that keeps the player returning for more. It's a major aspect of the game to be missing the updated cars. The inability to create a custom paint scheme on the 2013 cars is also disappointing. I believe that downloadable content is supposed to enhance the game and this almost works against that.

Fellas, I bought NASCAR: The Game 2013 in one of Steam's winter sales and while I'm enjoying the driving a lot, I'm finding that the AI is completely oblivious to my presence at all times. Inside Line is available as a relatively cheap PS3 download over here - is the AI any smarter in race conditions on console? I know about the pit stop issues and can work around those, but on PC I'm finding it a bit tiresome to be continually turned in on, driven into, spun off via a nudge on the outside rear quarter panel when I'm already ahead and so on, so if Inside Line is any better in that regard, I might give it a go.

No. Better on PC than console, but it sucks universally in all cases.
