Actually, Diamond Mind was always my favorite, though.

I actually played in a league here in Chicago using the board game before they made it a computer game. I still have a copy somewhere.

I want to say about 4 or 5 years ago some of the other beta tester on FPSBB heard from one of the programmers, he was planning a re-doing the series on his own. Then he just dropped off the map. I wish I could remember his name off the top of my head, Bill Harris would know I think he was on that email thread. I have no idea how he even managed to find us.

FPS Baseball 96 was fantastic as well.

What hurt FPS Baseball and Football is they tried to go after the Madden crowd as well as the High Heat, Tony LaRussa Baseball crowd. If they had zoned in on becoming like the Worldwide Soccer Manager games where it's 90% mgmt and 10% watching games play out or simming they may have still been around.

I remember back in '99 when they recalled FPS 1999 because it was sold in an alpha state. It did look good for it's time, much better than Madden as Sierra used a 3D engine if you had either a Voodoo or 3Dfx card.

I think I played the original FPS Football for three years. I used to print out stats at the end of each season, and by the time I was done I had a stack of stats. I loved the play designer, too. It's a shame that we don't have that level of strategic complexity and customization that we had 20 years ago.

Did you get the Sierra magazine that would come out every few months? I would read about the new FPS games over and over again. In football 97 I had Deion Sanders and he was like all 99's.. ahhh.. the memories.

I do remember seeing that magazine. I only played the 1994 version of FPS Football -- the mid-90s were my broke in New York years, and I couldn't afford to upgrade my computer to run the later versions. But I played the hell out of that first game!

I find it interesting that 2k basically made these games vanish. Speaking only for xbox live, all demos and games on demand are gone. I understand not doing a new version, but wiping all previous content seems a bit odd to me. Same with the 2k website. No proof that the mlb game ever existed.

Seems strange to me as well. Must be some legal issue there. I just picked up MLB 2k8 for $1 after reading that it was pretty decent after patches. Apparently there was some free content to download, but it is nowhere to be found now.

Yeah I don't think they are allowed to sell without a contract. Now any retail copy that's in circulation should not be a problem. It was the same with MVP Baseball 2005.

I would assume there is some cost in keeping a game in the store. If no one is buying it, why keep paying to keep it lusted.

It also feeds into the rumors that MLBAM bought the 2K engine, and are publishing the game under a new name. They would want the old versions gone as part of a deal.

They can still be had at Amazon , picked up 12 for the PC for $11. There are some really terrific mods from KCcitystar & picklebrad and others that really make it a visual delight. It's a decent alternative from The Show for a change of pace.
