Thorne and Clement have to go. I'd love to see Gord Miller and Ray Ferraro take over the play by play and I would like to see EA include the World Junior Championships. That seems like the next step to me.sportdan30 wrote:MizzouRah wrote:I can't wait to see some NHL 15 stuff.. It's one of my most anticipated games of 2014, since I passed on NHL 14. I have a feeling it's going to look amazing. I'd really like to see an improved broadcast (if they're not going to replace Gary Thorne, then at least provide he and the color commentator with a tremendous amount of new lines and things to discuss) and a more refined and realistic looking presentation. Gone should be the days of the same rinse and repeat replays.

I have a feeling they have been working on it already since they didn't bring NHL 14 to next gen. Time will tell I guess.

Further confirmation that there's an update on the way to fix parties and some of the other XBL elements.
http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/08/xbox-one-updates/"The feedback we've gotten is pretty valid; some of the social stuff is hidden or harder to use than it was on the Xbox 360. So you're gonna see us come out with an update where, well, we're going to fix those things. As a person who's been pretty involved in building Xbox Live for the last decade, I take it pretty seriously when people say it's harder to get into a party, and the defaults aren't right, and I don't like the model. So what I'm trying to do with the team is kind of theme some stuff up. Let's take an update and really go through a big list of what we're hearing from customers, what we know is broken with the architecture, areas that we want to improve or complete. I think that's a theme you'll really see us push on -- that Live experience."

I can get the PS4 digital version of NBA 2k14 for $50 (same as the PS4 Disc) while the XBone download is $59 and the disc is $50?Aristo wrote:They probably misunderstood the internet angry men's revolt against digital sales. Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
I think Microsoft assumed that the idea of buying digital from retail without being able to resell it was unacceptable. Apparently, it's only unacceptable when Microsoft suggests it. If Sony supports it, people want the service.Sudz wrote:I can get the PS4 digital version of NBA 2k14 for $50 (same as the PS4 Disc) while the XBone download is $59 and the disc is $50?Aristo wrote:They probably misunderstood the internet angry men's revolt against digital sales. As I said, I have to believe Microsoft will introduce digital download codes at retail sooner or later. You can get NBA 2K14 with a digital code for both the 360 and Xbox One for $100, but that is kind of a waste.
Microsoft should have never listened to the internet, because it was being stupid. Worse launch ever.
On the plus side, the Xbox One has more games, and better exclusives, and looks to stay that way through at least spring. Not bad for a console that wasn't supposed to be gaming centric. But yeah, they need to start selling digital download codes through the usual retail outlets sooner than later. I definitely want the download versions of any game I plan on keeping long term, and sports games fit that bill.

I don't count indie games that are already out on the PC and iPad. I sure as hell wouldn't spend $400 to play them on my TV.webdanzer wrote:May I ask how you are counting this? So the PS4 has essentially
Resogun
Knack
Killzone
Zen Pinball
Versus the XBO
Forza
Dead Rising
Ryse
Zoo Tycon
Peggle 2
Halo Spartan Assault
Powerstar Golf
Killer Instinct
Max: The Curse of Brotherhood
And there are also the duds, like Crimson Dragon, Lococycle, and Fighter Within
With Halo 5, Titanfall, Quantum Break, and Project Spark coming, I don't expect the balance to of good exclusive games to tilt away from the Xbox anytime soon.

Halo is for tweens and recon pussies.
I think it will be hard to get a reading on the console exclusives until this fall. There are a few to many squishy release dates. I am sure I will have some XBone jealously over some of the exclusives, but I think I will like Drive Club and know I'll dig The Show. I'm also pretty excited about The Order 1886.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Well, exclusive really won't mean diddly after the first year. I don't think PS4 of XBO owners are going to be hurting for games to play in the long run.
I've always liked the Halo games a hell of a lot more than CoD and other full fledged shooters. It does what is does pretty damn well.
I'll miss having a baseball game this year, but I never liked The show, anyway. If I had a PS4, I doubt I would do more than rent it. I've explained why in the RIP MLB2K thread.
I have zero confidence that Drive Club will be worth more than why it will be sold for. I doubt it will matter to anyone that has access to Forza 5.
I think The Order looks like it could be pretty freaking great. If I had a PS4, it would be on my radar. I'm assuming The Witcher 3 will scratch the same itch, though.
I don't mean to imply that there are not games for the PS4. But over and over I see comments from people talking about how what they really wanted was just to play games. I just don't think anyone can make an argument that the PS4 is any more games centric. It is $100 cheaper, which is not chump change. But between the Kinect and media stuff, it has been well worth the extra coin.
I wanted my next gen console to expand on what the 360 was. We were already using it far TV more and more, so I saw the merging of TV and games as a perfect direction. I will admit that the One is not fully baked, and it needs an update sooner than later to address some fundamental issues. But if you don't run TV into the console, and just treat it like a PS4, it is still a fantastic media device that plays more games than the competition.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
I really don't think there is a right or wrong answer on console choice at this point. For me, the PS4 edged ahead because I like The Show, it was cheaper, and because I was going to put it in my family room and not where the home theater is set up. It was a very tough choice, especially since I was very happy on the 360. I think my love of The Last of Us probably pushed me over the top into the Sony camp. But if my wife had bought me an XBox One instead of letting me choose, I would have been perfectly happy.

Aristo : Why are we going fanboy mode this quick into next-gen?
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
I really don't think I am. I certainly don't think anyone that refers to the PS4 as gaming centric as going into fanboy mode. I just think they are wrong, because the XBO has more games.
I thought my posts here were fair, and reflected my experience with the console.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
I will say that without a baseball game coming, sports gaming is awfully thin on the One. Coupled with no EA Golf game, and the lack of NCAA Football we are basically waiting for Madden in August, NHL 15 in September, and the NBA games in October for sports gaming. With golf, baseball, and college football, we would be getting March, April and June sports releases that are now missing.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Yep, Aristo and I disagree on a lot of stuff XBO vs. PS4, but he's not in full fanboy mode or anything, IMO. It's not like he's just trolling and going off without valid substance behind it. And to the point about games, he's pretty much right at this point. It's not until we start seeing Naughty Dog games on PS4, or Infamous, 1886, or even whatever Quantic Dreams follows up with, that it will really shake out. Even some things like Capcom's Deep Down look impressive to me, and will be pretty cool on PS4.
Personally, none of it bothers me a bit. I don't care which console I play it on. I'll get the one that looks/performs better, or has better exclusive content at launch in every case.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
I don't think anyone in this thread has been in fan boy mode. All points have been pretty valid. We all have preferences and I agree with a lot of his points. The things being trumpeted as awesome on next gen (streaming, Indie games) have been around for a long time on the PC so I get a kick out of all of it.
Streaming I'll admit is pretty awesome on the PS4 and I think one of the reasons the PS4 is selling more is the XB1 doesn't have Twitch support. But yeah being excited about Don't Starve a game I was playing last June on the PC or a pinball game that is really no better than it was on the PS3 / 360 is not my idea of killer games.
I don't even think Madden is that good but in terms of next gen besides Forza and FIFA the rest of the lot is pretty lackluster.
I'm also not liking the hints that The Show is going to implore the same microtransaction BS NBA2K did.

Have a question about PS4 - why do game updates take so long to download? On XB360, an udpate took at most maybe 5 min. Is it the same on XBO?

In my experience the PS network has always been slower for things like this. On the PS4 I found it a lot faster than the PS3 days.Inuyasha wrote:Have a question about PS4 - why do game updates take so long to download? On XB360, an udpate took at most maybe 5 min. Is it the same on XBO?
My issue with the PS4 downloads is they aren't cued up or pause able. So if you log on and there are 3 updates they all download at once killing your bandwidth and actually making them take longer. Also if you decided to stop one to go play a game or if you shut off the machine you have to start the whole download over.
