NHL 14 for the OTP and GTA V for the online and for the awesomeness that is Trevor. If I had to pick a third game it would probably be Motocross Madness on XBLA.

Games released in 2013:

1. F1 2013
2. GTA V
3. FIFA 14

2012 games played most in 2013:

1. Dishonored. My favorite game of this console generation, hands down.
2. Forza Horizon

This.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist was the closest to being a stellar game but petered out too quickly with GTA V so close behind it. Right now I am really, really enjoying my Wii U and especially Super Mario 3D World. Just awesome.

I am also tempted to get SC:BL for the Wii U since I don't have my 360 anymore. I wonder if anyone plays that online...?!

Game of the year for me, hands down is Diablo III on the 360. I'm really surprised there wasn't more talk about it here. Best non sports game since the old Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance(PS2) for me.

Sports game of the year is Fifa 14 on PS4

NHL 14 360 comes in 3rd

Last of Us is the best game I have played so far. Bioshock Infinite was overhyped and not so good as the original. I have yet to play GTA V, so maybe I jumped the gun.

A close second and Super Mario 3D World. This game is the complete opposite of The Last of Us, it makes me happy every time I play it.

8. Bioshock: Infinite (PC)
- amazing world, great story, but not enough (or any) variety to the gameplay - if there was just a tad more exploration rather than shoot-anything-that-moves this would have been my number one game
7. Tomb Raider (PC)
- looks phenomenal on the PC and plays even better, a brilliant reboot

2. Battlefield 4 (PC and XBONE)
- the XBONE version has been broken for me but the PC version has been solid after the last few patches and looks in-freakin-credible. I just can't get enough of BF4 on the PC.
........
Macca,
Just curious, What do you use as your main controller these days for your PC gaming? Mainly keyboard/mouse for FPS still, or do you use a controller for games like Tomb Raider, Devil May Cry, etc. I missed the $9.99 Tomb Raider deal on Steam and somehow never realized it was such a good game. The original Tomb Raider was what forced me to buy a Rendition Verite graphics card for my PC.

PS - Since I have seen many late 2012 games in the list I will add that my most played game of 2013 was Forza Horizon, by far.
Tomb Raider currently $10 on Steam until 5am EST if you can catch it.

Super Mario 3D World. Great level design and flat-out fun.

Forza 5. I can't stop playing this game.

For me, there's a drop off to F1 2013 and FIFA 14 (Xbox One). Both are really good games but neither give me the 'must keep playing' feel of Mario and Forza.

I think that's probably because so many of us had played it on PC and the 360 version was released a fairly long time afterward.

Zeppo wrote:Last of Us.

There were most assuredly other very good games I enjoyed this past year, but Last of Us was so far superior in my opinion that there's no need for any list. Frankly, I think it's the best game of this whole, long 360/PS3 generation, and this from a guy who's played the Mass Effect games through multiple times (especially the first one) and is right now playing through Dragon Age Origins and its DLC as we speak instead of enjoying the amazing (and much, much more recent, shiny and new) GTA V or the cheap download of Batman Arkham City I bought a month or so ago. :D
Well said, Zeppo. I have never had a game stick with me the way The Last of Us has. The gameplay was nothing revolutionary, but the way the whole package was put together had more maturity and emotional weight to it than any game I can think of. The look and feel of the world made the tragedy of the outbreak omnipresent, and it pulled no punches in the storyline. In a lot of ways, it's hard for me to think of it as a game because it was so much more.

Yes...but the controls are SO good on 360, and I never thought I'd say that. It's my preferred version, by far. Targeting and clicking things with the mouse feels so archaic after playing a hundred hours on 360 where you just aim in a direction and it hits your target. Seriously surprised at how good it felt.

The loot being overhauled to use your primary stat, combined with huge upgrades in the loot tables (think I looted 2 or 3 legendaries in about 10 playthroughs on PC, and I get more than that in a single run on 360) made it a massive upgrade.

My brother, wife, son, and myself rolled new toons this past week and damn near made 60 before I came back home. Went from 1-58 in a few days of a 4-person group. Considering that they're patching the PC to be more like the console with loot tables and whatnot in the expansion says a lot. It's far and away the better version IMO.

That's why I had it on my short list of GOTY candidates, personally. Most value I've gotten out of a game purchase in a long time, based on time invested in the game since buying it.

Reflecting some more on this..

For the consoles..

NHL 13 - x360 (best NHL game ever.. so it gets my vote again this year)
NCAA 14 - x360 (fantastic football game, maybe best yet on a console)

FIFA 14 - xb1 (need to get more free time to play it some more, but wow, what an experience)
NBA 2k14 - xb1 (server crap ticks me off.. but it's a complete package as far as playing a game goes)

I picked up the game over the holidays via 360 Games on Demand when it was on - you're dead on! It's incredible what a difference direct control makes. It's also got me a bit peeved because I'm falling down the Diablo hole ( :o !) again when I have far too many other games to play!

I forgot to do this...

1. FIFA 14 (PS4) - I am surprised how much more I like this compared to the 360 version I played with ST and then rented. The next gen version is much more fluid, controls better, has better AI, and great sound/visuals.

2. NCAA 14 (360) - RIP :(

3. Tearaway (Vita)

 Been there.

Knowing the expansion hits the PC first has me in a bit of a weird state. I know if I want to play the Crusader class or play all the new modes, I'll have to play on PC. And I've gotten so used to playing on console that I'm not really wanting to.

Absolutely LOVE it on 360.

Count me as one who loves Diablo 3 on the consoles. It controls way better and I don't have to worry about my account being hacked and losing access to it.
