Terry you should call MS because there's a better chance the replacement units they are shipping have a working BR drive and they could still be giving out free games for the trouble.

Thought about it, but the free games they offer, I already have.

So there's no real reason to wait for them to ship me a new one if I can just walk down the street and get a new one. This one seems to be working OK, so that's good.

My drive has been getting a work out on my XB1. My wife is doing her 4th round of T25 and she changes the DVD's everyday and no problems thus far. I was worried about it being an issue when I saw the reports but "knock on wood" so far I'm good.

Makes you wonder just how hard is it to get reliable BR drives in this day and age unless they cut corners on the quality of the drives which sure appear to be the case.

Question for all XB1 owners:

How in the hell do you invite friends to a game or join them (if joinable) in a game in progress???

For example - I see Pete online playing BF4 and I want to join his game - there are openings in that sessions, how do i join him?

Or I am in a session and know there are openings - how would I invite someone in?

Sony took them all :)

I read there have been some that have smacked the area where the BR drive sits and has fixed that annoying issue. Bad drives are easier to fix or replace in the future because there will either be parts available to repair them or there will be updated drives for sale where you can crack open the console and replace it yourself.

I have 2 years to deal with that since I purchased the X1 with my Amex card.

Not sure how it works in every game (and I've heard BF4 is especially screwy) but for DR3 for example you first start a "party" with the person and then the option pops up in the game.

Example vid -

This should be made easier/more intuitive.

Yeah, when I tried to figure out how to play co-op in Ryse, I thought it was pretty crazy. I started a party beforehand, so as soon as I started the game, he was invited instantly. That's the one thing of the whole UI I was like "well, that was easier".

Thanks Bakes. That is extremely unintuitive. Nice work MS.

I honestly can't tell if they made some things better/easier and I just need to retrain myself or if they are just bad design to begin with.

I've tried to stop commenting in this thread with my thoughts on the XB1 vs. PS4 for fear of being labeled an idiot (which I already have been by some), but yeah--piss-poor design in almost all areas, IMO. There are a few things it does well, and it plays games just fine (as long as the drive works). So for me, the box is fine as long as it's functioning. It just creates unnecessary headaches for the sake of being "next genny".

Good thing I don't give a f*ck then. :)

People just need to know (guys who haven't decided yet, etc.) that they really took a step back software usability wise. It's the whole, tried to squeeze too many features in and ultimately screw up the basics, issue in software development. This is the perfect example really. I mean don't get me wrong, including Skype and Xbox Fitness are HUGE system advantages, which is pretty much the main reason I kept mine...so they are doing something right with their exclusives, but overall it's just sloppy. In two-three years...I imagine my tune will change. They just need more time.

Last night my PS4 just turned off on its own while I was at the main dashboard shortly after closing out Madden. When I turned it back on I got a message to connect my controller and to press the PS button. Did that and the system came up in safe mode. I selected restart my system, and again I get the message to connect my controller via the cable and to press the PS button. Did it, system came up in safe mode. Went through this cycle 3 or 4 times and I finally unplugged the system for a few minutes.

After that it came up just fine, but it does concern me a little bit that maybe my system is headed toward fritzville.

I agree 100%. As someone who mostly plays offline, I get to avoid a lot of the headaches but when I come across one it can really make me scratch my head. Thankfully I don't have a PS4 to compare multiplatform games against, so the graphics seem fine to me as well!

I can agree with this. Although not to the same degree. The PS4 interface is much snappier. I really like it. I do love the approach by MS. Tons of potential that was probably rushed a bit. To me, it's still very functional. Maybe I'm not too picky. It will be interesting to see where both consoles will be a year from now. I get the feeling some think MS has the most room for growth. Who is to say Sony doesn't have bigger plans? It's gonna be an enjoyable ride. :D

That I will agree with completely--I can see the foundation that MS laid for the XB1. But the problem I have is something they couldn't avoid...Sony really put the screws to them this time. They released earlier, and MS either had to force an unfinished interface and product out the door to avoid being caught a year behind like the PS3 was last-gen, or just wait.

They were screwed either way. So sure...in a year, I bet a lot of these headaches are gone, as you can sort of see what they are attempting to do. But their comments on bringing back things that were deliberately taken out of the XB1 interface makes it seem like they were still in the planning stages to begin with. I'm sure a year from now, I can go back over this thread and go "damn I'm surprised I hated this thing this much back then!".

But right now, it's a sloppy unfinished mess of an interface wrapped around a serviceable piece of hardware.

I am a very happy Xbox One owner. I've been very pleased with the launch lineup and how the system has performed. Yes, there are some head scratching decisions that have been made by Microsoft. But they have already told us that these will be addressed in updates down the road. I do believe that Microsoft was surprised that Sony was planning to launch the Playstation 4 on 2013 and they got caught on their heels. I think Microsoft and the Xbox One would have benefited from a 2014 release, but they couldn't fall behind like Sony did with the PS3.

Bottom line, I am really happy to see that both of these consoles seem to have gotten off on the right foot. In the end, the fierce competition is going to be good for gamers. I know my boys are interested in the PS4. Right now, there aren't enough exclusive titles for me to pick one up for them, but this time next year, I can see buying one.

I see that Amazon.com is currently showing stock on the PS4,and as much as I wanted to push the buy button and have it delivered on Tuesday, with free Amazon Prime shipping, I couldn't think of any games that I really wanted to buy at this time. Yes, NBA 2K14 is awfully tempting, but I really don't get my basketball hormones flowing until after the bowl season is over. I"m not much into shooters and that seems to be where the strength of its current game library lies. FIFA and Madden look intriguing, but I'm not much of a soccer guy and Madden doesn't hold up for me once I've played though the current season using the real roster, one time.

If the PS4 had DriveClub and a golf game of some variety (I'd even settle for something arcadish, like Hot Shots Golf to tide me over), I'd make the jump, but otherwise, I'd feel like I'd just won a date with Jessica Biel to a Bucks / Kings basketball game :?

I would be an XBox One owner right now if my Fanatec GT2 steering wheel was compatible with it. I'm really jones'n for Forza 5, and I think PowerStar Golf would be enough to whet my golfish game desires until a serious fix came along. I just know I couldn't get what I really want out of Forza 5 without a wheel. Cronus Max says they are working on Fanatec support for the XBox One with their adapter so I'll give that time to play out. I just have a hunch that by the time DriveClub comes out next year, my hand is going to be forced.

I couldn't be more happy with my PS4 right now, even to the point where I'm starting to question if I should bother picking up an XB1 anytime soon.

 It's ironic, something very close to that thought was in my mind as my cursor hovered over the "add to cart" button this morning!

And I haven't read one regret from anyone who has bought a PS4 so far. Still, I can't quite justify this purchase right now when I won't have a golf or racing (Need For Speed Rivals not withstanding) game (my two main gaming addictions) to play on it. If my gaming tastes was like it was 10 years ago, when I was heavy into football and basketball gaming, it would be a no-brainer.

LOL - I added a PS4 to my cart as well last night. Still sitting there and it's says only 16 left in stock. But I just can't figure out what I'd use it for in the end. If I hadn't already bought my shooters on XB1 then maybe it would be more intriguing. But as it is, the games I am having the most fun with are XB1 exclusives (including Powerstar Golf).

I may end up owning both consoles int he future - I did have both a 360 and a PS3, but truth be told, as much as I liked the PS3 exclusives, I never did finish one. My PS3 was my bluray player first and foremost.

I am seriously more tempted to get a Wii U right now for my "other" console.

Last night, I picked up the Wii U along with Mario 3D World and Just Dance 14. I've really been longing for something different to my gaming to go along with my PS4. Finally there are some good games coming out for the system (3D World, Wind Waker, MK8, SSB, X, DK Tropical Freeze, etc). Not to derail the thread, but my son said this morning he's really excited we got the Wii U and questions whether we need the X1. After some conversation, he agreed it doesn't make sense to have all three systems.

I'm happy he's fine with not getting the X1 as I was really trying to convince myself that it was something I wanted.

We opened the Xbone early because I am off of work for 5 days and then don't get much of a break with our fiscal year end craziness approaching. I didn't have any trouble setting it up with the Verizon Fios TV and getting the sound through the receiver. I didn't mess with my Harmony remote yet, but don't expect any issues. I don't want to say too much of what's already been said, but I will mention a few things going from good to bad:

- Forza 5 is by far my favorite next gen title on either system
- Did a workout with my wife...the fitness app is a BIG win
- The controller is very good
- The TV integration is cool and it does help make the Xbone seem more "next gen"
- My voice commands were recognized 80% of the time with the only real issue being that I must say a lot of things that sound like skype
- We tried to do the Kinect Rivals Preseason Rivals and hated it. It made us half sick and didn't seem to control right. I recalibrated the Kinect and it seems OK...I'll try again sometime.
- The fitness app crashed the first time I tried to do a workout within 15 seconds of starting. It worked the second time but crashed when we were done
- I'm trying to be patient but there were several times tonight when I wanted to throw my controller through the TV regarding the profiles. When you have kids sometimes you just want to show them how to do something or take over for a few minutes to get through a difficult part and the Xbone goes ape sh*t when I grab another controller. I'm going to go back and read through the thread again to find some way to stop this because I literally screamed a few times it was so frustrating and I'm about the calmest person you'd ever meet.

After 24 hours I really like the combination of the two. PS4 upstairs and Xbone in the basement. The hard decisions will come next fall with the next run of sports titles.
