For those of you who, like me, suffered from Strict NAT Syndrome when switching to the XB1, here are simple instructions to fix the issue.

Nothing scares me more than a Microsoft console running any more than it needs to. My 5 Xbox 360s are proof that they have zero idea how to thermally protect hardware. Best of luck. :)

I still haven't unboxed my XB1 since getting home Sunday. I'm wondering is it better to run my 360 through it or my DTV box? I know the obvious answer is it depends what I want to do but are the features that good to have DTV running through it?

I haven't found a reason to actually send DTV through it, no.

But mainly because of exactly the reason Scott mentioned above--I even think we both had 5 360's.

I'm not leaving my XB1 on any longer than absolutely necessary. I don't care how many vents they slap on the thing to cool it.

Supposedly they designed the XB1 to be continuously on for 10 years.

In my case, the XB1 is not on our family TV, but on my TV which I use about 2 hours a day (maybe 6 on the weekend). So I don't mind always on when my TV is on. It's just too convenient to say "watch TV" and instantly suspend a game and go back and forth. Plus the snap feature.

I did go and put it in energy savings mode though. I see no need in having it on standby for 20 hours at a time just so I can boot up quicker with my voice.

Supposedly, they didn't design the 360 to flame out after a month, either--but that sh*t happened.

I don't care what their plans are--reality gets in the way.

Yet they designed the console with more room, left the brick outside, put extra fans, and made most of the case vents. Sure, overheating might be an issue, but I would be more worried about the tiny PS4, with the brick inside, and less ventilation. And Microsoft solved the overheating problem in the original 360, as my old white Arcade 360 with the Jasper chip is still running with no issues after losing two 360's before the new chips.

I would say that I would enjoy the One just fine without the TV integration, even for the price. It has more games I want to play, and more games coming that I want to play. But I have no real qualms about leaving my Xbox on.

I had a white Jasper that red ringed a month ago after running fine for about a year, so the problems still exist. They didn't completely solve them. Mine was sitting on a shelf by itself, not even enclosed anywhere in an entertainment system or anything. Just sitting up on a nice little shelf, and the thing melted again just before the new consoles launched. At least its timing was good.

I lost two original versions and two jaspers...and I'm definitely not a hardcore gamer. Maybe 5-10 hours a week, TOPS.

And Aristo, the One doesn't have MORE fans, it's got one GIANT fan. On my computer...the main culprit of failure over the life of my system...is always one of the case fans going out. Nice and easy to replace however. Not so much in a console since it's attached to the heat sink. We'll see what happens over time, but I certainly don't have faith in MS. I've been burned way too many times. If the 360 wasn't such an awesome machine I'd have dumped it a long time ago.

Thought about this on Day 1. Same thermometer to keep things consistent:

Ambient Room Temp 72 (breath into a paper bag, PK)
Reading from on top of the XB1 after 24 hours without turnoff. 72
Reading from top of DTV box (on another shelf but same general area) 79

Fan has never gone on the console since I booted it up. It's not quiet, it's silent. It never gets nearly as hot as the DTV box. Really not worried about thermal issues at this point. You can flag this post for future reference. :)

I guarantee the fan is running...just not at top speed where you can hear it. That's the advantage of putting a Cessna propeller on the top of a heat sink...the bigger the blades, the quieter it is.

And you might want to adjust your little science experiment, because it's severely flawed. Check the temp INSIDE the case, not on the outside. Last I checked, the processor isn't sitting on top of the One casing. You need to stick to Lawyering. :)

I know it was ad hoc (there's some law school Latin...suck it!), but if the box were throwing any significant heat it would manifest as some change in the ambient temp in the immediate area. I'm not probing the box with anything...not even in the name of science.

My basement keeps a steady temperature in the high 50s during the winter. So I'm a bit less susceptible to overheating electronics than most of you cats. :)

I got the chance to play with the PS4 only for the second time today since its release day and was prompted to change my password as Sony claims that any suspicious activity automatically gets flagged in. In lieu of the fiasco a couple of years back, better safe than sorry I guess. Enjoying Killzone so far...

Still in no rush to set up the Xbone, I don't really have a problem personally having the hardware on while watching TV, but I am sure that the wife will treat everything as alien territory to her, and I might have to search for that splitter HDMI after all.

I do worry a bit about the temperature setting inside my cabinet tough as everything including the TV box is snugly fit in there even though I have a mini fan inside and have it on during the warmer months.

Or you could just build a case like I have which has two fans on the back blowing air in and 2 on the top sucking air out. 4 fans, cost me $50 and a little labor on my part.

That would be killer if it heated my basement for free, too. Otherwise, I'd rather put on a sweatshirt and keep my utility bills low.

Played the demo earlier of Lego Marvel Superhero or whatever it's called. Really fun! Moreso than any lego game I've played in the past. If my son wasn't grounded from electronics, we'd surely be playing co-op! Looking forward to getting my rental. Anyone have the retail game?

I've been looking at all the major retailer sites and have yet to see the PS+ deal advertised anywhere. I have no intention of riding all over town on Friday. Now making my wife ride all over town is another story.

Anyone find a list of retailers yet?

Those PSN Plus cards don't expire do they?

I already bought one last month.

So this one I wouldn't use until a year from now.

I would assume they stack like the Live cards do. I once bought 3 live cards entered them all at once and had 3 years covered.

Next gen Fifa is just such a great game. Buttery smooth, great animations, improved A.I. This might be tied with NBA 2K14 as my favorite sports game.

Hopefully next year we'll see even more life like player models and smoother animation from them.
