I'm playing host to a 50-lapper tonight, damage off, fuel and tires on, AI cars on, random or qualify grid, at 10:30 p.m. (EDT). We'll see if we can keep a race going without disconnects.
Track TBD by popular vote. I can be convinced to make it a 100-lapper, too.
Let me know if you're interested.
Take care,
PK

Beltzies:
Welcome, man. Of course I remember you. Where's FreakNasty these days?
See you tonight, I hope.
Take care,
PK

I'd like to have a go, but may not be able to make the 10:30 start.
Also, I noticed there is a simplified damge model; perhaps that is the way to go? After expriencing the 'slow car' issue in a couple races last night, I am wondering if having a crash with dmg. off is what leads to the slow car situation. I have no idea one way or another, but I know I was hitting a lot of walls in the races where i had the slow car issue.
I definitely remember being behind an AI car in a yellow that was not trying to catch up to the pace car. It was very frustrating, and Granatofan eventually tried to take him out to get him out of the way, but that didn't work. I need to see some more before I'm sure, but I wonder if the AI is a real problem with the yellows, or just us.
I really enjoy the way the qualifying method works, but I don't like how the AI always kicks our butt. I wonder if the adaptive AI level works over the course of a session, or just race to race. If it works over the course of a session, then perhaps a few 10 lappers would crank that AI level down for the qualifying.
Well, sorry 'bout that guys. I guess I'm just not good enough on the ovals for the longer races.
I just couldn't get the car to go faster than 200mph. In 4th gear, I could get my fastest laps, topping out around 204, but 5th gear made me slow down. I ran into a car before the end of the first lap, had some damage, and hit the pits, but i guess whatever was wrong it couldn't get fixed. I just couldn't see myself driving around that circuit in 4th gear- not much of a challenge in that, and there wasn't any racing for me.
What is the story with the cars that end up sitting around at odd places and angles around the track?
I think in answer to your "are we crazy?" questions PK, ain't no way there isn't something wrong with this game online right now. Freezing up when I hit start button in practice, is an issue, not to mention this odd speed problem (unless it is intentional that once you hit a wall you can't use 5th gear or something), and these dead cars lying around the track.
Zeppo, even after pitting... I was running 204mph or so in 4th. I think the fastest lap speed anyone did was 205. 5th just made me slow down.
They all thought I was just sitting at the side of the track in the straightaway. They literally saw my car just sitting there. However, from my perspectiveI was racing. It showed me as being 6th or so, with all AI guys in front of me. THen the race ends and it turns out PK won, and other humans were up in front of me.
This game is very very broken online. It's unplayable at times. Earlier in the night I hosted in "Easy" mode and didn't have these problems., but when I hosted in Pro mode, I had similar issues.
Codies please patch it or fix the servers or whatever you need to do. I'll still play it offline, but the way it is online right now is a complete waste of time.
Well, I got booted once. Then when the race started, My car would not respond to the controls!?!?! I ended up casuing more problems for the rest of you guys so I just quit. That happened earlier tonight with Zepp. My car just would not turn. I just figured I had damaged it somehow and kind of blew it off. But in the one race tonight the same thing happened right off the bat...
Not good. I'm sure there will be a patch. (I hope).
Sorry I declined the second invite but I had two disconnects and a lockup and when the race did start I got loose at one point, tapped the wall, and then the car just kept shifting between 2nd and 3rd over and over and over. Very weird. But I did do a race with the AI after all of that which went very smooth and I can say without a doubt this is the best oval racer I've ever played on a console! I just hope they get the Live issues worked out soon.
Guys, I hope you don't mind that I have cut and paste your comments in this forum about the Xbox Live problems with ICS 2005 and sent them to Codemasters. None of you are identified -- I'm just taking the body portion of the comments and forwarding them to my contact at Codemasters to prove that I'm not the only one in the world having problems with this game on XBL.
Let me know if you want me to stop sending your individual comments. But sending these will help the Codies identify the problems and hopefully build a patch faster, I think.
Thanks,
PK

No problem at all PK. I am glad you can take this info and bring it to their attenetion. Thanks!
You know, Spooky, I had a controller that went bad in just one direction. And it didn't seem to happen all the time, although it was sort of tough to tell, to tell the truth.
But I remember having troubles in Beyond Good and Evil, I think, and assuming the stick had been pushed one way or the other when the thing booted up, so I would pull it out and stick it back in in hopes of recalibrating it.
But then in Prince of Persia, it got really bad, and it was obvious, this thing would not go to the right! Realizing this made me understand a lot of other things, like my QB being unable to scramble to the right, or trouble reacting and aiming in GR:IT, or some driving weirdness in PGR2. But it was REALLY hard to tell in PGR2 if it was the controller or not.
Anyway, I got a new one and problem solved. So, if you have a game that would be a good test, like an adventure game of some kind where there is a clear shift from a walking to a running animation, you might fins a problem with the controller.
Just a thought. The reason I bring it up is that I've had the 'can't shift' thing happen to me, but not yet have I found myself unable to turn in IC online.
Definitely don't have a problem sharing the info. Anything to help get the problems fixed. And FYI, I saw on the xblracing.com forums a post describing most all of the same problems we've been experiencing so it's definitely not just us.
". In the span of three hours playing online w/ Bear the whole room got dropped once, I got dropped twice, and another racer got dropped at least three times. Several people complained that when they went to practice they were stuck in gear. And a couple of us got stuck with the annoying and incessant sound of tires squealing...even in the lobby. So it's not all a bed of roses"
"with J and Bear I get dropped once or twice when he changes tracks.
Then there is an issue with not being able to shift in practice/qual if you have your gears set to manual.
Then there is an issue with all of a sudden my car just started making the tire squeel noise even when sitting still. It drove me nuts so I just had to turn off the game. "
Rich Tysoe from Codemasters posts over at xblracing so I'm glad they've started posting about the problems there too. Between that and your e-mails they should definitely realize there is a problem with the online code. BTW, I saw your name roll by in the credits last night. Must be cool to see your name on screen in a video game.
Honestly, I had no idea I was in the credits. I was in the manual for the original game last year, but I didn't know that the credits were in the game this year. I just thought they were dropped -- honestly.
Quite cool; I'll have to check it out. But frankly, I'd feel a hell of a lot better about my name being in the credits of a game that works all the time on Xbox Live ...
Take care,
PK
