Might not be an extra $100. Someone posted here over the weekend (can't remember who) that a new version of XB1 is due out first quarter of 2014. I'm guessing it might be a 'Kinect-less’ XB1 at the same price of the PS4 ($399). Stay tuned.

Buzz kill!

I do however agree with PK. WORTH IT! Live was/is by a huge margin the most important factor last generation to me. It was the last generation for me.

I sure hope its not broken on XB1.

The sense in multiple gaming systems is that I never could have played The Last of Us, any of the Uncharteds, or Beyond on my XBox. Nor could I have played Halo or Forza on my PS3.

I'll always have both for exclusives alone.

Since I'll have both, my comparisons were for anybody like me who was curious as to which one looks better...because I want to play the version that looks better to me, considering gameplay is equal on both platforms given the controllers are so similar. Obviously it doesn't matter to you. To others, it might. While you seem to think it trivial and not a big deal, to others, it actually might be.

A compressed video doesn't show the magnitude of the differences that my TV screens did. It's significantly better. But like I said, you obviously won't care. I do.
And I appreciate it, TC. I snagged a copy of AC IV for PS4 based on your feedback. I expect single player multiplatform games may be PS4 for me until/unless the discrepancies are lessened over time. However for sports games I expect to play a lot of online, it'll still be XBL For me at least until PSN demonstrates effective online play and good integration of cross-game communication, and even then I still think Xbone with its other feature will still trump.

I love having both consoles. Nothing is worse than reading about an incredible game and not having the system to play it.

Do you have FIFA on both systems too? Can you compare graphics, controller/controls, smoothness of gameflow?

From the blog:
There will also be a special Black Friday deal for PlayStation Plus at select retailers nationwide

Then a comment below by the person who posted this:
When will details on which retailers will have the discounted PS+ Membership be available?

It will be available at most retailers.

Maybe I am missing it, I would prefer it be digital but I don't see that mentioned.

This is basically what you can tell the Kinect to do:

If I have Direct TV would I even use the XB1 to watch TV or is it mostly for people with cable?

Right...no difference between satellite TV and cable in the grand scheme of things in connecting to the Xbox. All the same. Just an input over HDMI to the Xbox.

Wondering if Miz was referring to the interface...?

XB1 interface is light years beyond my Time Warner cable box so it's a no-brainier to use. But the new DTV interfaces I've seen look nice.

The DTV guide is perfectly fine, so I don't find myself using the XB1 guide at this point. I'm still using my Harmony remote for everything TV-related, and use the voice commands for the XB1 stuff.

The only problem for me is my stuff is in a cabinet, closed off from the 17 month old...so I definitely don't want to be running my Xbox One every time I'm using the TV. So that's a non-starter for me. If I'm gaming or using Skype, he's not roaming around the house, so I can leave the cabinet open.

Damn kids...always complicating things. My advice...pull out!

I don't have either of the new consoles yet. My comment was a general statement about the advantages of owning both a PS3 and a 360. Sorry for any confusion.

As others said, you may not want to use the one guide, but getting voice control for the DVR and the ability to fast switch and snap TV and apps is worth running it through the One. I still use a remote for most of my TV watching, but even my wife likes the added functionality of pausing, muting, and even skipping back without picking up the remote.

How does functionality work when say for instance, my son wants to watch a recorded show. Can he simply turn on the tv with the Directv remote, turn on the receiver, go to list, and select his show, just like he does now? Or does he have to say "Xbox on" and wait for the tv and receiver to turn on? If he's watching a recorded show, he obviously wouldn't use the X1 guide feature. He'd use the directv list to choose his show.

Also, if we simply want to watch live tv, but not use the Xbox One, can we bypass the voice feature if preferred?

You must turn your Xbox One on to watch any sort of TV, which is the deal breaker for me. No HDMI passthrough. It was a horrible decision on Microsoft's part if you ask me.

And in the situation you are talking about, you'd still have to do everything through the One AND still use your DirecTV remote, assuming you don't have a programmable remote like a Harmony.

Yeah it really isn't ideal at the moment. You can however have your xbox set to turn on your TV/receiver/avr when you turn on or 'wake up' the xbox. I ordered a cheap HDMI splitter to remedy the problem for me. Not sure if HDMI pass through is something they can add in the future.

I love the HDMI pass through. I don't really use the xbox guide, but I love the quick switching from apps to games, and snapping live tv, etc.. The benefit of that outweighs some of the kinks that others have pointed out (and def easy not to use if you're not into it - just don't plug anything in).

Anyone try plugging anything else into it (like a Apple TV, 360)?

I've plugged both a 360 and a PS4 into it and they work fine. It's just weird saying "XBox, go to TV" to go to my PS4. What surprised me is I could log into my 360 and XB1 at the same time without kicking my account offline on either one. So that was good planning, at least.

Now my 360 is on my HDMI input and my PS4 stays on another TV input. So everything XBox gets played through the XB1, and the PS4 when I switch TV inputs and it's worked perfectly so far.

Thanks for the info. I might jump on the X1 (if and when I get money back on taxes) when Titanfall comes out....if it gets great reviews.

I've left my Harmony programmed to only turn off the TV. My wife and kids can just turn on the TV without monkeying with the xb1 at all. It is running all the time in the background, but there's no obvious indication of that except for the lights on the console and kinect.
