Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
Best Buy charged my credit card for my extra DS4 controllers so I went ahead and picked them up last night. Obviously, it is very similar to the DS3 but I liked the extra weight, slight increase in size, and subtle texture difference. It reminded me a lot of a wireless Logitech controller that I had for PS2 that I preferred over the DS2. I haven't sold my controllers yet from PS3 and side by side the DS4 definitely seems like an upgrade just based on appearance and feel. I can't wait to try them out next week and I'm even more excited after reading the comments from the NBA 2K14 team about how much they like the controller.wco81 wrote:I looked at the DS4 and noticed the design differences. Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
Tried out FIFA 14 Demo on PS4 at BB and really enjoyed it.
But when I went to try out the XBO, it was just in a glass case and no controllers and no games.
How come MS isn't going the way like Sony and having XBO up and running demos? Are they doing everything wrong this launch just to do everything wrong?

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
They didn't have either demos working at my Best Buy....just the XBO in the glass and no PS4 in the display. There wasn't even a single customer looking at the next gen gaming displays....no buzz at all it seems except for hardcore gamers.
Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
I thought FIFA on PS4 looked great. A smooth 60 fps, crowd looked great. The new controller is definitely an improvement over the DS3.

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
Playing the FIFA demo almost made me get a next gen system at launch. Or want to. It was really good for a first gen title on a next gen system. Then I was thinking maybe being 1 inch away from a really nice tv playing the game had something to do with it
But FIFA shined for all the reasons everyone else has already mentioned. Maybe EA can turn it around this gen.
Anyone know what EA's plans are in terms of porting? Will they be porting from PS4 TO XBO this gen or XBO to PS4?

Just watched the Forza 5 Launch trailer on XBL and it looks badass. I haven't had a Forza game in a while but I may go for this one. I only have 1 launch game (BF4) preordered and would like a second game. I keep hedging on what to get.

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
Because I'm weak, I'm now in for an Xbox One on launch day. I had pre-ordered one, but then cancelled it back when they began taking orders. I was kind of getting the bug to buy one and checked the Microsoft Online Store, and saw that they still had my order up. Since I had my wallet stolen, my credit info was changed, but they let me swap info and keep my launch day system.
I still don't think ti is the best idea, but the Xbox Fitness stuff, as well as really wanting to give the new media stuff a whirl that got me deciding to get one. That, and my 360 getting louder and louder over the last few weeks. I'll keep it, but use the XB1 for Netflix and such.
So I have a system, but no games coming. I'm assuming Forza 5 is automatic at this point.

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
Back on the day of the first demo I expressed skepticism about their being able to make the UI that fast and seamless. Very impressive that they got that right.
This demo raises a few other concerns, but for the most part I'm pretty excited about what I see there.

Very neat.. thanks for posting that.
Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
I guess I will have to try it to see how I like it but off that vid, MS , please stay away from anything that resembles Windows 8. Didn't like it at all.
Anyway, seems like they keep showing XBO do everything but play games!

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
I keep seeing people say things similar to this. I don't understand this concern. Of course the system plays games. There are the same amount of gameplay videos out there for XBone games as there are for PS4 games. Do you need to see yet another link to Titanfall to make you feel less nervous that the XBone will be able to be a viable game machine?Inuyasha wrote:Anyway, seems like they keep showing XBO do everything but play games!
I think that MS PR and Marketing folks realize that everyone understands the XBone is a gaming machine at it's core. There's no "hmmmm...let's try to hide the fact that this thing actually plays games so we don't confuse everyone...". I think that MS has done a lot of research and learned that a HUGE percentage of their console audience is using the current Xbox as more than just a gaming rig. Go on at any given time and look at how many people on your friends list are watching a move or watching Netflix. For me it's usually about half.
I think it's smart to market the new and innovative things your system will do in addition to the great games that will be available. Problem is, for BOTH systems, at launch there aren't that many killer, must have titles. I see all this talk about people going with the PS4 because its focus is more around just playing games. Of course that's Sony's angle. They don't have all the other features that MS has implemented so it's very smart to market this as the "gamers console". But the fact that this angle actually has some gamers worried that the XBone won't be able produce great games continually leaves me in awe.
It's a fact that probably 75% or more of all games that come out for this new generation will be available on both platforms. We're already seeing that with the launch lineup. Are people really that worried the new, next-gen Tomb Raider game won't be as awesome on the Xbone as the PS4 because Xbone chose to also include a TV guide and view capabilities in the console?
We all know the PS4 has better specs/hardware and we all know that may or may not yield noticable differences, but the Xbone didn't come up short in specs because it decided to implement additional media capabilities. It would be the same hardware regardless if it included these innovative ideas or not.
I guess it just boils down to either you care about the extra media features of the Xbone or you don't, but to be concerned that it won't be a good gaming machine because of them is really odd to me.

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
The 360 was all about expanding what a gaming console does besides playing games. The XONE takes it a step further. I agree there's no need to worry what either machine can do. Just buy both, they are priced cheaper than a high spec'd video card.

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
Well that's what Microsoft wants you to believe. They want people to think of their device as my functional, so it's working. They know they can't compete spec wise with the PS4 as far as sheer horsepower goes, so by saying you do MORE, it makes up for that. They simply HAD to do that...that's the marketing spin route that they were forced to establish. Nothing wrong with that. It's what differentiates them. Not sure why you're so bothered by it.Spooky wrote:Of Course the media isn't helping my point...

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
Saw the Xbone in action today at a local Best Buy, with many launch games running on a demo loop. Not as impressed with the jump in graphics as I expected.
Still very nice, and I know I'll get one at some point, probably sooner than I think. But my jaw was not left on the floor.
The leap from the PSX/N64 era to the Dreamcast remains the most mind-boggling jump in graphics in console gaming I can recall.

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
I'm bothered by people that seemed concerned that the Xbox One won't be a great gaming machine because of MS's focus on the media angle. I understand your point but to me it feels more of the opposite. I feel like Sony is having to take the stance on being "gamer focused" to make up for the lack of other innovative features rather than MS having to make up for a lack of horsepower.dbdynsty25 wrote:Well that's what Microsoft wants you to believe. It's been very well documented that no one really knows if that extra horsepower will actually translate into any meaningful differences in graphics, especially in the first few years of this gen's life. You can throw all the extra horsepower in the world into your machine, but at the end of the day, CoD will look like CoD on both consoles. Madden will look like Madden. etc... The handful of Sony exclusives (that are actually worth buying) 3-4 years down the road may have a decent edge in overall graphics compared to the Xbone exclusives because of this extra horsepower, but it will never be as significant as say a current gen Wii game compared to a PS3 one. The games for both consoles throughout this entire generation will be pretty close and then it just comes down to what games are more fun to play.
I don't think MS is sweating the difference in specs from the PS4. I don't think that has forced them into a new marketing spin. I think their approach for marketing this as a media device was well in play before they found out what PS4's specs were.

Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
Since Xbox One was designed with Kinect, HDMI in for TV, multiple running OS so you can do all this other stuff besides or alongside gaming, I think that drove the marketing, not the PS4 teraflop advantage.dbdynsty25 wrote:Well that's what Microsoft wants you to believe. Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info
There's no doubt that the PS4 is having to do their own spin as well, like you mentioned, but the horsepower angle is real. People know, this generation, that games on the PS3 are inferior to the Xbox 360 counterparts a vast majority of the time. Sony doesn't want that to happen again, thus they developed a more powerful system. Of course they are going to push that agenda...they certainly don't want to get beat graphically again. Saying that graphical differences don't matter is just wrong. I personally buy multiplatform non-multiplayer games on the 360 because I know I'll be getting the best looking version. I could give two craps for all of the home media and kinect stuff, so for me, getting the more powerful gaming system, while still having my 360 around for multiplayer games like BF4 and GTA5 will get me buy for the foreseeable future.Spooky wrote:I'm bothered by people that seemed concerned that the Xbox One won't be a great gaming machine because of MS's focus on the media angle. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing the One...not saying it won't play games fantastically, etc. Hell, the controller is probably better...but it doesn't matter to ME. Some people love the Kinect, some people love Xbox Live...and obviously those people SHOULD get a One. I'll get one eventually because I'll want to play exclusives like Forza and Titanfall, but it's not going to be FIRST in my purchase list. That said, I've got a One preordered for launch day, so I might just be paying for it on the 22nd, lol.
In fact, I was about to mention that work buying me an iPad Air (thus allowing me to sell my LTE Nexus 7) has increased my discretionary funds, so I'll probably be able to swing both without angering the wife anyway. We'll see if I decide to keep it based on feedback from the web (and how much they are going for on eBay right after launch). Should be an interesting launch.
