Re: Xbox One AND PS4 Info

Cancelled my PS4 pre-order. Going with XB1, I know I'll be paying $100 more for a less powerful system but the lure of the superior controller, the fact that I'm already invested in Live, and the lack of PS4 launch exclusives I'm into (Shadowfall looks great but I've played the previous 2 Killzone titles and while they were good, they're not Battlfield or COD) is a big part of the decision.

I was thinking about it the other day, I like my PS3 and with the Uncharted series, Little Big Planet and Last of Us I do feel like it was probably worth getting on - but I think it's no exaggeration, and probably an understatement, to say that I've played my Xbox 360 ten times as much as my PS3. There was a period where I hadn't turned on my PS3 in over a year.

Also, PSN and the PS3 OS is still a piece of junk compared to XBL IMO and I don't know how Sony are going to overnight suddenly develop a better ecosystem for the PS4.

Same reasons I cancelled my PS4 order. Even though Killzone looks nice it's not enough of a system seller to me. The only game i'm interested in is The Show and by the time it releases there will be plenty of PS4's available. There are 3 XONE games i'm interested in so that's why I decided to go that route. I'll get the PS4 next year.

At best a rumor. Issues reported end of last month (September)? "Maybe it will be fixed, maybe it wont?"
Oh I know Pete and the only reason I responded was to make sure people knew the source. Despite claims to the contrary certain people on this site react strangely to the merest hint of PS4 bad new. I guess Sony must be giving out blow job or reach arounds with their machine :)

I'm more excited to actually try the PS4 the the XB1 to be honest. Everything about the XB1 seem to indicate a slightly better 360. The PS4 is still something of a mystery, its just too bad its no longer the awesome media hub the PS3 is.

I had thoughts of canceling both and just spending the money on a new video card but someones gotta feed you guys the run down on each once launched :)

In all honesty I don't get the heated console wars in about every gaming sites comment thread. If you like to play games you play on whatever.

It's actually 300 MB.

The Xbone day 1 patch is likely more than a GB since it'll take 15-20 minutes to download.

I think I will keep my PS4 pre-order, even though like some of you, I could be happy with my current console (PS3) for the next couple of years if need be. I have a bunch of titles - GTA5, Beyond, Walking Dead, Tomb Raider that I will have to play alongside the next gen.

In terms of the PS4/XB1 decision - you obviously can't go wrong with either. However, I feel like I'm already a bit entrenched in the Sony ecosystem. My Vita (which I love when I play, but don't play too often) has the potential for remote-play which is great. Additionally, most of my games on the Vita are PS Plus freebies. Hence, I'd want to keep my PS Plus membership to keep those games running, in addition to some PS3 freebies.

Not being an online gamer or into FPS', the decision gets even easier. Although I may prefer XB1's launch titles at this point (thanks to delays in Watch Dogs and Driveclub!)

Anyways, the only decision now is which game to pick up at launch. I'm hoping to keep it at one to keep the initial launch costs down, but we'll see. It's between:

-Killzone: (front-runner due to it's sci-fi feel, and that it LOOKS like a next-gen game. I want my first PS4 experience to be not only filled with great gameplay, but with moments where I'm simply staring at a tree for 5 minutes because I can't believe how good it looks)

-Assassin's Creed: This franchise has always been one that I thought I would love but have never played deep into them for whatever reason. Glad to see the new one getting great reviews - it seems a bit like GTA5, in that the world is more exciting than previous ones and that it doesn't take itself as seriously.

-FIFA or NBA2K: Although I've been sports gaming less and less these days, I'm always interesting in a well done sim.

What launch titles are you guys considering?
I'm hoping to get AC4 discounted on Black Friday. And I'll probably pick up a shooter depending on the reviews.

I think I am going to keep both pre-orders for now. From the PS4 launch, nothing interests me with the exception of Killzone. I am already playing BF 4 and will probably play some CoD Ghosts on the 360.

The only title I pre-ordered for the Xbone is Forza 5.

I was just reading an article on Forbes and they estimate with both systems built in hard drives you will only be able to have 12 games installed at once. I guess not a big deal unless like me, you like to grab and old disc once in a while and play the game.

I got Madden and FIFA on my PS4 preorder.

If the Target sale becomes a reality, I'll try to return those and get them along with maybe BF4 for the eye candy.

I'd be more interested in some of the shooters if there was a spectator mode.

But both systems will allow simple connection of external hard drives, right? I'd think if you're one who needs more than 10 or 12 games installed all the time, you'd easily be able to triple or quadruple that number with a run of the mill external HDD.

Nope. I read yesterday no externals for the PS4. Not sure on the XBOne but MS has never been big on stuff like that.

I assume you're being sarcastic right? If not I suggest reading that big honking PS4 blog I posted. No external drives on the PS4, I haven't seen anything about the XB1.

One thing I missed yesterday, no MP3 on the PS4 so say goodbye to custom sounds in The Show and NBA2K. If you want music on the PS4 you need to use their cloud service.

For launch (XB1) I'm getting;

BF4
Forza 5
Dead Rising 3

(will probably get AC4 on the PC)

I think at some point both companies will allow you to connect external drives but with these games being 30-50 gigs, you'd probably need at least a USB3.0 external HD to get decent performance. Better yet, I hope they allow you to switch the internal HD - I switched up my PS3 HD to a nice 320GB (from the 60GB it came with) so I can store a bunch of PS+ games that I tell myself I'll get around to playing!

GameSpot is running some Forza in-game capture today, so far they have the Dallara DW12 at Indy and Ariel Atom at Silverstone posted. Not sure if there will be more.

From this video, it seems safe to say only the road course configuration will be in the game. That's a slight bummer, but I'm still really looking forward to driving IndyCars on a console for the first time since the first Xbox.

Nice...

And thanks for the earlier tip about the Eaton Centre Sony Store display. Might check it out at lunch if the wind drops below 80 kph! I also heard that Sony is setting up some sort of pop up store at Scarborough town centre with a whole bunch of PS4 games today (and running until launch).

I'll be grabbing NBA 2K14, Fifa 14, and either Knack, Madden, or BF4 for the PS4.

I spoke to a sales guy at BB this morning and he said BB is deciding whether or not they are going to match the Target B2G1 deal. More than likely, if they do it, it would only be for launch day because Target will run out of their game stock faster than BB.

Also, I stopped by Game Stop yesterday at the mall and they're already selling the PS4 controller and Eye Camera. Think I may hold off on picking up an extra controller until Black Friday. $60 seems crazy high for a controller!

They may try to upsell you on versions with bigger drives, in which case they may not be in a hurry to add external drive support.

If they're trying to encourage you do buy media content from their music and video stores, they should support external drives or better yet, networked drives, so that you don't have to have a drive tethered to your console.

MS definitely announced easy USB 3.0 external drive support, but it appears that now they are saying "not available at launch." I'm surprised to hear PS4 will not allow it. It seems the two have swapped positions since their stances for the 360/PS3 generation on so many things, and this is one of them.

Boogie nails it, Sony and Microsoft need to quit advertising what their consoles can't do and fix them so they have all of the previous generations features.
