That's good to hear. I getting the Mini and am really fond of my iPad 2. I love my iPad 2 and won't get the 3 or 4 unless it craps out.dbdynsty25 wrote:It's better than the 2...quite a bit better actually. Not only is the ppi higher, but the contrast and angles are better too. Sure, it's no retina and I'll be the first in line for a retina mini, but it's still pretty good given the size and weight restrictions/requirements. I did a lot of comparisons between my mini, my wife's 2 and my 3.JRod wrote:Yep, if you read a lot of use it as a reading device (for web sites) than the mini is more like the iPad 2. For me, I quickly got eye strain. The retina screen changed that and I can't go back.

iPad mini far exceeding sales expectations, outselling iPad 4.

Interesting to see, but I'm on-board with the mini anyway.

Well the lower price makes it available to a larger market.
And a lot of previous iPad owners may be buying it as well.

I'm sure a lot of the sales are cannibalized from would-be iPad buyers. It's just surprising to me that the mini could potentially be the iPad brand standard-bearer sometime soon.wco81 wrote:Well the lower price makes it available to a larger market.

I just sold my Kindle Fire and will be ordering an iPad mini next week. We have too many iOS devices around here, plus Apple just has so many more apps than the Andriod does.
I wasn't paying $600 for an iPad, but for $329 I can afford an iPad mini.

Dead on here, sir! This ipad mini is a work of art! I've been on it non-stop since it arrived Monday. Much faster than the Kindle fire was and very well designed.sportdan30 wrote:

If the new leaked photos of the iPad mini are true, I may get one. The pics I saw showed an edge to edge display but it retains the upper and lower bezel. I prefer the full size iPad which is why I skipped the mini.
Re: OT: Apple Tablet Tomorrow - Mgraw-Hill CEO soon to be de
Ditto for me if it comes equipped with retina. Quite content with the 4th generation currently as practically my whole family uses it but would like to try the smaller size.Rodster wrote:If the new leaked photos of the iPad mini are true, I may get one. Supposedly this is what the iPad mini 2 will look like. http://www.product-reviews.net/2013/07/ ... gn-leaked/

Looks pretty but wouldn't be so good for portrait use.
I use mostly landscape on my iPad 3 but the Mini seems more for portrait use, if you any kind of reading. Plus maybe easier to hold with one hand that way?

I would hate to have a smaller bezel than the current Mini. It's already almost too small. It's about as good as it gets now. Just double the resolution and speed up the GPU a bit, and I'm in for the upgrade. I've got a son that would love a Mini (yes, he's 1 now, so it's time).wco81 wrote:Looks pretty but wouldn't be so good for portrait use.

My wife shares her iPad less and less with his lovely husband.
Which leaves me with the urge to get an iPad mini.
Hate to pull the trigger now since it appears the new one comes out on October.

Yep. The small bezel was very attractive to me for the mini, but I can't imagine it any smaller. You need something to hold on to without registering screen touches.dbdynsty25 wrote:I would hate to have a smaller bezel than the current Mini. It's already almost too small. Take it for what it's worth, Apple is testing 13" iPad screens. I'd like to see a monster like that but it have to be a 4:3 ratio.
Re: OT: Apple Tablet Tomorrow - Mgraw-Hill CEO soon to be de
Lately, I've been asked to reset my password with iCloud and for my Apple id every 48 hours or so. If an app update is due, all of the sudden I am being shown that my current is incorrect and asked to reset it more often than usual. Anyone else?

Well they certainly updated the sh*t out of their iPad line.
iPad Air (dumbest name ever) - 16gb Wifi ($499) and 16gb LTE ($629) - then tack on a 100 for 32gb and 200 for 64gb
iPad Mini w/ Retina (finally) - 16gb Wifi ($399) and 16gb LTE ($529) - then again, tack on 100 for 32gb and 200 for 64gb
I cannot BELIEVE they didn't lower the price of the Mini w/ Retina as you can get a Nexus 7 w/ a comparable display, 32gb w/ LTE for $349...a whopping $270 bucks cheaper. Just unreal.

Yeah, I don't get the name iPad Air, unless of course they're going to release a souped up iPad Pro in the near future. That seems to be the guess of many.
Really impressed with the weight of the iPad Air along with less bezel.
I sold my iPad 3 a couple weeks ago, so now I gotta decide if I spring for the Mini 2 or the iPad Air. I love the size and portability of the Mini 2, but I'm concerned that I'll miss the larger size screen of the iPad Air. Tough decision there.
Where's the love for the iPad 3 and 4? It's as if they don't exist. Whomever buys a iPad 2 for $399 is a big sucker! That device should be priced at $250 and I'm amazed that they still will be on the shelves.
Quite a few people are upset there's not touch screen id with the new iPads. It certainly is a nice feature of the 5S, but I don't think it's that big a deal, at least to me.

Re: OT: Apple Tablet Tomorrow - Mgraw-Hill CEO soon to be de
One explanation of the iPad 2 that I've heard is that it's popular with some schools and companies, where they have all this infrastructure to support the old 30-pin connector, so Apple is still making them and charging a pretty high price for them.
Because yeah by now, those components shouldn't be that expensive.
Also some speculation that the touch ID was left off because they can't make enough of the fingerprint sensors for the iPhone 5S. So after the Holidays, when the demand for the 5S has decreased, they might update the iPads with the fingerprint sensors.
Makes you pause about buying right now. I got the iPad 3, which still runs fine, only to see the iPad 4 come out 6 months later.
I would be interested in the iPad Mini but Nexus 7 costs so much less. However, iPad Mini Retina supports more LTE networks around the world, so it may be a better device for traveling overseas.

And that factor alone is what making me inch towards the Mini although I am doing just fine with the Nexus 7.wco81 wrote:I would be interested in the iPad Mini but Nexus 7 costs so much less. Re: OT: Apple Tablet Tomorrow - Mgraw-Hill CEO soon to be de
I think the Nexus 7 released this year supports some Asian carriers but there's a separate version for Europe that includes LTE bands for carriers there.
I'm not even sure you can get the European version in the US unless you import it through a company like Expansys. Probably comes with Euro plugs for the charger.

Re: OT: Apple Tablet Tomorrow - Mgraw-Hill CEO soon to be de
Man what a dumb lineup, talk about fragmenting their customers. Why keep a underpowered 3 year old tablet around, charge $400 instead of replacing that with the iPad 4? Then they increased the price of the mini when you can buy a Nexus 7 32Gb for $269 and Android is starting to catchup wrt apps. Just makes you shake your head at their iPad refresh. I was thinking of getting the updated mini but after the price increase they can keep them.

I've been going Mini only the last 12 months, but an increased price for better screen is a bit much I think.
I'm definitely considering an iPad Air though, and keeping a big and small tablet.
