Re: MLB 2013 Season Thread
Not a fan of Puig either, but I think the reaction to his antics are way over blown. The guy is showing emotion, but so what? He's just trying to fire himself up, the team, and the fans.
The only thing I have a problem with is when a player stands there after hitting a home run, flips the bat, etc. That's the one thing that upset me about the Puig at bat. He thought he homered, and he stood there and admired it. To me that's classless. However, Pujols used to do the same thing and pissed me off.
Well, I'm glad I watched none of the game last night. I was stuck at the Scottrade Center watching Monday Night Raw with my son and two nephews, following the game on my phone of course. But, it didn't hurt as much at least!
No confidence tonight with Lynn pitching........Cards bats better wake up!

Re: MLB 2013 Season Thread
Obviously as a Dodger fan I love Puig, although that doesn't mean I don't my issues with him. Most of it I chalk up to him being very emotional, from a different baseball culture, and young. The only thing I wish he didn't do as much was standing around home plate admiring his home runs. Not because I care if he's showing up the pitcher but because it doesn't always go out when he thinks it's going to, as seen last night. His still got a stand up triple on that hit but it has cost him bases in the past.sportdan30 wrote:Not a fan of Puig either, but I think the reaction to his antics are way over blown. I do agree that the reaction to him is overblown. He actually hustles like crazy out in the field, sometimes foolishly, turning what would be a double into a triple. He thinks he can catch every ball hit his way. When he runs the bases after a home run he basically sprints. He'll do his big bat flips but then he'll chug around the bases faster than anyone else on the team. The guy is all over the place.
He really loves playing baseball. You can see it in the way he plays. He truly cares. He just lets his emotions get the best of him sometimes. He'll learn.
He's incredibly exciting to watch. His arm is unbelievable. He's made at least 5 jaw dropping throws this year that you wouldn't even believe. His speed is also amazing. Early on, when opposing teams didn't know anything about him, he was turning routine singles into doubles. He keeps opposing players on their toes.
This is exciting baseball. He may need to tone down the theatrics but he's fun to watch.

Re: MLB 2013 Season Thread
No one doubted he was a good ballplayer. The issue is that he is an asshole. Sometimes assholes are worth having on the team. Sometimes they cause more problems than they are worth.
His reaction on the triple just shows how dumb he is, not emotional. The dude barely got it to the wall down the line, and was acing like he hit a 500 footer. If Beltran doesn't misplay it and let the ball roll away, it's a single. And even if it had sneaked over the wall, that is an obnoxiously stupid reaction for a Daniel Descalso like home run.
And it was his first hit in the series. Then, after his second, he wussed out and let the Cardinals complete and easy DP instead of taking out the fielder.

Re: MLB 2013 Season Thread
The best one was him hitting a single to right field against the Braves, and celebrating like he hit a game winning homer as he rounded first, and the Braves threw behind him and almost picked him off as he was doing his stupid hand gestures to his other d*****bag hand signaling teammates in the dugout. Would have been so awesome if they got him. Hanley Ramirez started this bullsh*t on the Dodgers when he came over. Puig is just accentuating it. I never hated the Dodgers before they got Hanley, now they are deplorable.Aristo wrote:And it was his first hit in the series. And yes, the Devil Rays and their stupid arrows are equally as stupid and obnoxious.

All that said...I absolutely LOVE that Adrian Gonzalez wore a Mickey Mouse shirt to his press conference after Wainwright called him out for his stupid hand gestures. That sh*t is funny. If you're gonna be an a-hole, at least own it.

That's what i don't get. How is Gonzalez being an asshole? He does those gestures directly to his teammates in the dugout. From what I gather is that you can't do anything more than a simple fist pump to celebrate anything in baseball. If you do then you're labeled an asshole.dbdynsty25 wrote:All that said...I absolutely LOVE that Adrian Gonzalez wore a Mickey Mouse shirt to his press conference after Wainwright called him out for his stupid hand gestures. This is Carpenter celebrating a first inning triple. He was left stranded there.

Seems like people only have a problem with celebrations if it's the opposing team doing it.

Clap, fist pump, whatever, I don't care. Start making upside down eye balls (hanley's Marlin's forte he brought with him), and doing hand routines for your buddies, is being an a-hole. A lot of teams do the stupid a-hole stuff...as I said before, the Rays do their little shooting arrows thing. WTF? Just being a-holes. All fans of the team doing it think it's great...that's fine. I accept that. Same way I accept EVERYONE hating the Tomahawk chop...it's whatever.LAking wrote:That's what i don't get. How is Gonzalez being an asshole?
Re: MLB 2013 Season Thread
We're talking about a team that bragged about pissing in Arizona's pool. And the best the apologists can do is show a bunch of gifs of Cardinal players celebrating when they actually did something, as opposed to Puig hitting a long pop-up down the line and acting like he was king of the world.dbdynsty25 wrote:Clap, fist pump, whatever, I don't care. Seriously, the Dodgers became a team of d***** bags. And if that makes the fans happy, the least they can do is own it.

Puig could of had an inside the park home run if he wouldn't have sat there admiring what he thought was a HR.
He's a show boat.. if you like that kind of player.. so be it.

Re: MLB 2013 Season Thread
First of all, the Dodgers never bragged about anything, they just didn't understand what the fuss was about. Also, if the fragile diamondbacks were offended than they deserved it.Aristo wrote:We're talking about a team that bragged about pissing in Arizona's pool. And to top it off they had the audacity to ask the Dodgers to not celebrate their division win on the field. So they didn't. They waited until the stadium emptied and jumped in the pool. And then the John McCain's of the world got their panties in a bunch over that.
I do like a little showboating. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. As long as you aren't directly taunting the opposing team's players what is the problem? Baseball is losing viewers because it refuses to let go of its milk toast image. It's more of a no-fun league than the NFL.
And back to the actual game. As I predicted, the team isn't the same without Ramirez. He looked like he was in a lot of pain and was completely ineffective because of it. He's the team MVP for sure. Cards should be able to take this.

Ramirez being injured is huge.. one of the best players in the MLB for sure and a huge blow to the Dodgers.

Re: MLB 2013 Season Thread
So, obviously the win last night was big for the Cardinals. I think if they lost last night, they would have been going back to St. Louis down 3-2.
Great to see Holliday step up big as he seemingly gets a lot of criticism on message boards.
I don't have a real good feeling about today's game. I could see the Cards being blown out or at the very least not being able to get their bats going again. Kelly comes across as once again battling through five innings and giving up 3 runs. I hope I'm wrong of course.
I wouldn't mind see Shane Robinson start in center, but Matheny won't mess with things. I'm just not a big Jon Jay fan. It's a shame Oscar Tavares couldn't stay healthy this season or I think he might have gotten some time in CF late in the season, and possibly during the playoffs. Tavares and Puig would have made for some exciting theater!
Starting to come down off my high of Matt Adams. The Dodgers are playing him perfectly, and pitching is starting to show that he either doesn't recognize breaking pitches, or he simply can't hit them.
I'm very impressed with the skill set of Puig. He's going to be a star in the league for years to come. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he was on some kind of juice. The dude is absolutely mammoth. His arms, chest, shoulders, etc.........just saying, it makes me wonder. Or maybe he's just 22 and at that age, guys have the energy and time to dedicate themselves to the gym.

Re: MLB 2013 Season Thread
I don't get the Holliday haters... never have figured that one out.
As you can see after today's lost, last night was HUGE. I still don't like Lynn pitching but I guess Miller has been shut down or something?
I'd like to see Adron Chambers in CF.. I'd be fine with Shane Robinson too... I'm not a big Jay guy either.
I really like Adams.. but he's young and they have figured out how to pitch to him.. he needs to be more patient. That being said, I really miss my favorite player, Allen Craig.. as I'm sure Matheny and the rest of the team does.
Puig is one of those you love to hate, but wish he was on your team.
I think we win Friday.. something like 2-1 or 3-2.

Re: MLB 2013 Season Thread
Don't have a problem with Puig or Gonzalez, it's the playoffs, not game 103 of 162. Emotion is expected. Puig is an exciting player to watch for sure.
Wasn't surprised by the loss today, yeah last year we couldn't get it done with a 3-1 series lead. This is different, as we are going back to Busch NOT to the West Coast. Freese has been quoted as saying that the team hasn't forgot about blowing it last year, so I think we get it done Friday night. Worst case, Wainwright is waiting for a Game 7 and LA will have used their best.
What the hell was Adron Chambers doing in that situation? Were we out of bench players? He must want to be Mr. T with all that gold on his neck, appears to slow down his swing. He looked completely lost and overmatched. Put Shane Robinson in there.

That's a game the Cardinals gave away. Bases loaded and nobody out in the first inning and you don't score? They should have come away with at least 1 if not 2 runs there. Yadi had uncharacteristicly poor day at the plate.

Yeah Don, we want to see a 7th game. Go Dodgers...pitch a no hitter Kershaw......IDIOT!!!!!

I'm now rooting for the Dodgers. Time to go pick up some flags for my car.
