Not a cowboys fan, but how can you criticize a qb who's defense gave up 51 points yet they were still in it the whole way? I thought that was an amazing performance. I guess you could say his int lost the game or you could argue the endless lack of tackling was the biggest culprit.Rodster wrote:Typical Tony Romo performance. 5 TDs and 500 yards probably kept the Cowboys in the game.
Re: NFL 2013-14
Even with a record receiving day for a WR, the Bears still don't win today.Brando70 wrote:The Bears are who we thought they were!
What a silly, stupid way to lose to the Lions. Detroit is pretty good this year and the Bears defense is not, but the Bears gave that game away. I dream of a world where a QB in a Bears uniform doesn't make panic throws off his back foot.
Chicago's defense holds Brees to field goals on long drives and kept Sproles in check but they don't win.
Cutler has a 300+ yard day, and they don't win.
Why do the Bears have be down 20pts before they start playing hard?
After a 3-0 start, the Bears once again are screwing it up.

Re: NFL 2013-14
You definitely can't hang that loss on him. He made some amazing throws in that game in addition to the Denver safeties doing their 2012 AFC Championship impression.greggsand wrote:Not a cowboys fan, but how can you criticize a qb who's defense gave up 51 points yet they were still in it the whole way? Re: NFL 2013-14
I think the lack of any kind of pass rush is killing them defensively. Brees had way too much time to find receivers and extend drives. Even though he didn't throw for a ton of yards, he was able to stay in rhythm all day.bulls23 wrote:Even with a record receiving day for a WR, the Bears still don't win today.Brando70 wrote:The Bears are who we thought they were!

Hats off to Rob Ryan, too, he has done a really impressive job rejuvenating the Saints defense.
Re: NFL 2013-14
Absolutely. I think they did surprisingly well given the total lack of pressure on Brees. Saints are really good this year, so I was actually pleasantly surprised by many of the elements of the Bears performance.Brando70 wrote:I think the lack of any kind of pass rush is killing them defensively. Barring the emergence of some unheralded DL player, they are going to have to hope for their run of crazy turnovers to continue or turn to some schematic changes to find a more effective defense if they want to make any real noise. But the division is still wide open, the Packers look as beatable as they have since Rodgers' emergence and the new coaching staff is still learning as they go. They'll stay a good but not great team all year, I expect.

Re: NFL 2013-14
I definitely think the Bears can win the division, but they look more like an also ran that might go 9-7/10-6 and not get past the second round. Yesterday's loss was especially frustrating because they did a pretty good job keeping the Saints offensive output reasonable, but just made more mistakes than the Saints did. Peppers has really disappeared this year and McClellin has had little impact so far.
On the other hand, Alshon Jeffrey is really breaking out in his second year. Very impressed with him. It's just a shame to see the best WR performance in Bears history wasted on a loss.

Re: NFL 2013-14
I would take Tannehill over Matt Schaub in a heartbeat.....Tannehill was a wide receiver at A&M before becoming a QB. He has wheels and I think pocket presence can be learned and improved upon with more experience and practice. Matt Schaub's career in Houston is about over even though he did set a dubious NFL record last night with his 4th pick 6 in 4 consecutive games as well as 8 consecutive games with a pick. Things could be a lot worse in Miami....dbdynsty25 wrote:Well its official...Tannehill has the worst pocket presence I have ever seen in an NFL quarterback. He just has zero feel for pressure and has no idea how to take a step up or slide left or right to avoid pressure. After watching the master Marino for so many years its really hard to watch.

Re: NFL 2013-14
That's what's most frustrating, is that he CAN run and just doesn't. It's almost like he's afraid to...he also cowers in the pocket and goes down REALLY easy. Yes, it could be worse, but I am afraid that my high hopes for him coming into this season have been toned down...as I don't know if he'll ever be good enough in the pocket to be a high quality NFL QB. It certainly doesn't help that the offensive line is pretty bad, but you should at least be able to break out and attempt to run when the pocket collapses...he just doesn't do that. At least he's not Schaub. But just in case you forgot, the Dolphins set the NFL record for pick sixes in a season when AJ Feeley was behind center. So I know ALL about pick sixes.DivotMaker wrote:I would take Tannehill over Matt Schaub in a heartbeat.....Tannehill was a wide receiver at A&M before becoming a QB. Regarding Tannehill not running, I say that's more on the coaching staff. I get the feeling they had him tone that down. The o-line is just plain awful.

Tone what down? He's never been one to bust out of the pocket and run. He's always been timid.Rodster wrote:Regarding Tannehill not running, I say that's more on the coaching staff. I get the feeling they had him tone that down. The o-line is just plain awful.

He ran a couple of times against the Saints, fumbled on one.
Re: NFL 2013-14
This is patently untrue, as I know for a fact that you've seen Rex Grossman play QB. The entire field is his blind side and he his internal clock is sundial.dbdynsty25 wrote:Well its official...Tannehill has the worst pocket presence I have ever seen in an NFL quarterback.

Re: NFL 2013-14
We must be watching a different team. If not for some good fortune they could be 1-5 right now. I said it before the season started 8-8 at best.bulls23 wrote: After a 3-0 start, the Bears once again are screwing it up.
I look at their scheduled they have 5 winnable games left, 3 of which are coin flips.
They should beat the Giants, Skins are a coin flip. Then they lose 3 in a row to GB, DEt and Bal. Stl and Min are coin flips both on the road. Dallas a loss, Cleveland a win and then finish with 2 losses against the Eagles and GB again.
I'm not sure what people are seeing. The offense is improving but it won't turn around in one year. An age had finally hit the defense. No pass rush before the injuries, now forget about it. Tillman is old and hurt, not a good combination. I still think their safeties are much more average without 54 in the middle. He might of been old but you still needed to know where he was on passing plays.
I hope I'm wrong but I'm just not seeing 10 wins.

Re: NFL 2013-14
I do think it could go a lot of different ways, but I think they can win both the Detroit and Baltimore games as those are at home and both of those teams have been inconsistent. Dallas is also at home and, 48 points against the Broncos notwithstanding, the Cowboys are fairly average. I could also see them blowing some winnable games and going 7-9. The tough one to predict is Green Bay. They are probably better than 2-2 but they also haven't played well away from home this season.Danimal wrote:We must be watching a different team. I just read the NFL is looking into the Matt Schaub incident where angry fans confronted him at his home. Damn you got some serious issues if you let sports get to you that way.
Re: NFL 2013-14
Well a Giants fan was beaten into a coma at Dodgers stadium a couple of years ago and then a Dodgers fan was shot at a Giants game a few weeks back.
There was also a shooting at a preseason game between the 49ers and Raiders.
And Raiders fans are proud to proclaim that if you go to a Raiders game with the other team's colors, you're risking your health.
Of course there's been soccer hooliganism and overt racism for years in Europe.
I think a few years ago, a goalie for a Latin American team was killed after he gave up a goal to eliminate their team in the World Cup.
You would like to say we're past violence related to sports but clearly we're not.

Re: NFL 2013-14
people are nuts.
I was walking into Target the other day and they had one of those donation people sitting there. Guy yells to a guy wearing 49ers gear 'RAIDERS'. All in good fun. But not for this guy. He comes right up to this donation guys face and wants to start something. Abusive language is used and the donation guy is like whoa, cool off man, just having fun.
Adds to my distaste of professional sports these days.
