Awesome! Although that article seems to indicate the classic stuff will be part of a special edition which will surely be more expensive. But I'll get it anyway! Classic 80s and 90s cars will be epic. Imola and Brands Hatch will be amazing but I'd love to see 80s or 90s Hockenheim and pre-chicane Barcelona for example. But hey, I'm not complaining. Any classic stuff is very welcome.

Re: F1 2013
Eurogamer are suggesting that the standard edition will have the 80s cars and the Premium edition is needed for the 90s cars, not that it matters greatly to me because I am, let's face it, a total sucker for this kind of thing.
In the comments for the following article, there's another video showing Lotus 100T and Williams FW14B being driven with wildly varying degrees of competence around the 1980s Jerez layout. The bloke doing the driving witters on even more than me, can't pronounce Jerez and doesn't know a Lotus from a Caterham but you'll get some idea of what it's all about, at least:

Re: F1 2013
I watched a nice twenty minute talk with a dev at gamespot I think it was (I watched it via the app on the Xbox) that showed a lot of a poorly driven 80s car around Jerez I believe it was. They mentioned that the regular game would come with one set of old cars and drivers (either 80s or 90s I can't remember) and two of the tracks with the other set of cars and drivers and the other two tracks available as DLC later. The fancy version of the disc will have it all included. He also said they haven't released all the drivers they will include as yet, so more names will be forthcing. It sounds like made-up drivers will fill out the field for those historical races, so perhaps we will see the return of Mitch Bacon and Merv Tapper et al? Juan Guerra Loma?
I can't wait to drive the older cars. I hope I don't build it up in my imagination too much, but they sure look cool as hell.
Among other things that were mentioned was that tire scaling will be back in due to gamer feedback. Personally I haven't missed it because the tires degrade enough to require some thought as to when to pit, but we do only get get one pit in our 25% online races so it could liven things up a bit. He also mentioned that in 13 you'll be able to decide how much fuel to put in. I thought we already had that choice with the three fuel strategy choices but I guess that is something else? I'm confused.
Not mentioned was the wonky behavior of tires and AI ability to deal with changing weather conditions. Personally I thiink this area is a total mess in 12, as there seems to be a magical cliff for each tire type that the human driver can't notice and if you wait just one lap too long you are spinning off the track, but if you go to inters one lap too early you are equally unable to get any grip. The AI seems to know exactly when to pit.
Anyway, he said the historical stuff has been a goal from the start but only now have they had the time to get it in, not to mention the long hard slog of getting all the various rights worked out for cars, drivers and tracks. So I'm not expecting huge improvements to other areas of the game.
Oh wait. I do remember him talking a bit about serious overhauls of the AI racing. Besides adding in a new difficulty (I'm assuming between Intermediate and Pro), it seem they have been working on getting the AI to be more aggressive when it comes to overtaking. He said to expect a much less easy time passing cars in the first corner and expect more front wings and such getting damaged in turn one as AI try to move ahead.

Re: F1 2013
Does anyone know the FFwheel situation regarding the new systems? With xbone having feedback on the triggers now im assuming the peddle sets can now employ forces in braking and such as well.
Reason im asking is i so want a wheel to play this game but not gonna bother if its going to be obsolete in 2014 when the new games are on the next gen systems.
Im looking at Fanatec because of their compatibility with all 3 platforms.
any cheap options for xbox right now that are decent that would be an option. Id go for a short term solution to play for a year or 2.

Re: F1 2013
Jimmy, this game finally convinced me to quit dicking around with my perma-broken Fanatec Clubsport pedals and buy another set. My original Clubsport pedals really never worked right from day-one, as the brake pedal would yield sporadic braking, even with no foot on it! I thought the load cell was bad, bought another one, and got the same result. I then realized the mechanical linkage was putting pressure on it, and tried to back it out another peg. I broke the allen head set screw off trying to back it out and had to get a machine shop to get it out. I also severed some wires trying to get the screw out myself and had to butt spice them together.
After all that, I was putting everything back together when I realized that I have just flat lost a big part of the brake pedal assembly and now I'm totally SOL. Fanatec can't sell me just the part I need. I've just ordered another Clubsport pedal. I should have sent the pedals back when I detected the involuntary braking, but I knew I'd be in for a long wait. Meanwhile, it's been about a year that I've been trying to fix the one I've got myself... lesson learned the hard way though
F1 2013 looks to offer a lot with these classic cars. I actually prefer the F1 cars of the 80's vintage. Can't wait to get my new pedals and get back to some real racing. I royally suck with a controller, and am only slightly better with a Microsoft Speedwheel.

Im not buying a Fanatec until i know what the future holds.
I may go with Hori just to play sounds like the best cheapest option right now. not looking for much other than precise control and not using a controller.

Have an FAQ, chaps:
http://community.codemasters.com/t5/Cod ... a-p/314388
Some interesting bits and bobs in there, including a bit of detail on the Classic cars and an intriguing "we'll say more on the Classic content nearer release". McLaren might be in the game fairly soon too, since the sim they have a licence with at present is rumoured to be on the brink of financial collapse.

Re: F1 2013
More on the Classic cars and drivers. Some of the car selections bewilder me (FW12? F92A?) and some of the drivers they're paired with confuse me even more, but see what you reckon:
http://community.codemasters.com/t5/Cod ... a-p/332000
Watch the trailer at that link too. 37-40 seconds in, is that not Lauda's Ferrari 312T2 from 1976? Definitely isn't any of the cars they've announced so far...

Well that really stinks. I guess I'll have to buy the DLC. I do hope they have it available soon after the game's release. It is something I'm very much looking forward to, no matter how imperfect it may turn out to be.GB_Simo wrote:

And why, oh why Adam, would you think this game may be a clunker? Did you learn nothing from our 2012 debacle here, where a few poor early impressions doomed the game to never be even tried or looked at by so many who had so very much enjoyed our online races with the 2011 version? Only to have you, me and Paul end up really falling in love with the game once we got accustomed to the changes? Please, I beg of you, let us not make negative comments or spread bad rumors about this game without evidence of any kind.
For what it's worth, none of the Codies' F1 efforts have been without problems, without failings and imperfections that aggravate and disappoint me. However, every single one of their F1 games have been fun as hell, fantastically well crafted, perfectly set up for the way we like to race online, and did I mention fun as hell? It'll be easy as pie to nitpick and dissect every little fault of 2013 if we want to, but wouldn't we rather, this time around, be a little more even handed in our early discussions once the game arrives, in the hopes that we can achieve some kind of critical mass that will make online racing functional for us here? I'd much prefer people try the game for themselves and then get rid of it quickly if they don't like it, losing maybe a few bucks, than have what happened last year when a flood of mistaken disgruntlements overflowed these pages and essentially nobody here even tried the game because of it.

Re: F1 2013
You've read rather more into that than I intended, mate. That was simply the only positive spin I could put on the Classic edition not being released where you are...
It is a fact that F1 2012 ended up deserving a much larger DSP audience than it got and let the record show that I have no reason to expect those high standards to slip. I note Jimmy is already back on board and trust more will follow, confident as I am that those who did not join us last season would not risk any further ridicule.
Sincerely

Re: F1 2013
The races are just too long for me, 2 races in a session and thats only if you can handle the second one time wise, so if there is an incident in any of them especially if its no ones fault and is lag or game code related and you just end up parading around for 19th err no thanks, got nothing to do with peoples reviews.
Give me back those Rfactor nights anyday, now that was good racing.
