This last episode had made it pretty clear that the old patterns of cheating, lying etc. are all that he has left. He's still clearly marginalized in the office, reduced to sabotaging the Jaguar campaign just to get back at the vile dealership owner. The only market that he still understands and is able to manipulate with the old aplomb is desperate housewives. That pitch he made to Sylvia was the same combination of brilliant and morally indefensible as those he once made for Lucky Strike.wco81 wrote:
It's believable that Don would revert to old patterns.
Loved the way the episode compared and contrasted Don & Pete. Pete has turned to womanizing out of a sense of frustration very much the same way that Don does. Unfortunately for him, Pete utterly lacks the guru's innate understanding the in's and out's of lying to women. He can, to my amazement, bait the hook, by doesn't know how to keep the fish on the line indefinitely. Pete aspires to Don's easy amorality, but lacks his mentor's imagination when it comes to spinning the fantasies that his conquests need to understand their place.
Pete's an accounts guy. Don's creative.
