Guys,
My girlfriend will be in Fresno this week for work. I would have love to gone, but my work is stingy on the vacation days. She will have a rental car. Any recommendations for sights/things to do nearby? I know she will be going to either Yosemite or Sequoia Park.

Re: Fresno
That's pretty much all that's in or around Fresno. Pretty boring up there.

If you don't mind spending 15 bucks to get in, go to Forestiere Underground Gardens

My girlfriend had to go see it on my San Francisco trip back in May. It's a pretty cool place - literally. An Italian citrus farmer came to Fresno to plant fruit trees, but the land he bought was full of thick clay - it made farming nearly impossible. Instead, over the course of 40 years, up until his death, he dug an underground dwelling, and acres of underground rooms because he envisioned opening a resort. Too bad that the city took over the land and destroyed some of his rooms, although 2 acres remain today.
It's cool underground as opposed to being on the surface. You have to take a guided tour that lasts about an hour, but it is something to see and do.

FTFY. The Central Valley, aka, the arm pit of California, is a horrible place to visit. It's hot, ugly, boring, and absolutely reeks of air pollution.JOZ wrote:Guys,

If she's willing to drive 2 to 3 hours then yes she can see some nice stuff including Sequoia, Yosemite, and Pinnacles National Parks. Also Monterey and it's world renowned aquarium is less than 3 hours away.
Other than that, good luck.

Re: Fresno
I visited Fresno once for a day on business in 1994. Upon exiting, I said to myself, "I never want to see this town again."
Fresno might be the assh*le of the universe.

I still remember a joke I saw a standup comic make 20 years ago. "I performed in Fresno this past week, and it's the only place in the world that will make you say, 'Helllooo, Bakersfield!'"
