I love our kinect, my youngest daughter and her friends play it regularly.. I'm also glad it's included.
I see all future sports games having kinect support like FIFA and NCAA 14 do and as much improvement as I've read about the kinect 2, games will only get better with it.

How would those games use the Kinect. Are you going to have to do kicking or passing motions all game instead of pressing buttons?MizzouRah wrote:I love our kinect, my youngest daughter and her friends play it regularly.. I'm also glad it's included.

They say the improvements to Kinect 2 are that it now tracks your forefinger and thumb, can track you in all lighting conditions and can track your heartbeat. However, they said the latency to detect and process your motions is still greater than the latency to press buttons on a controller. In other words, it won't ever be as precise as a controller, timing-wise.
If the K2 is to improve on the Wii's motion control, it's got to be accurate about tracking your motion and rendering different results depending on how good your motion is. But do people want video games to require you to swing a baseball bat accurately or swing the golf club with the proper mechanics?
That might be good for the first few times but do you always want to stand up and use proper technique for your sports games? Do you want to jump in front of your TV dozens of times to play a basketball game?
Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
No, for things like hiking the ball, switching a defense on the fly, sending a man in motion, subbing players, changing a formation in soccer or calling for subs, pulling your goaltender, telling your closer to start warming up, etc.. voice commands that let you do things without having to pause the game.wco81 wrote:

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
Sounds like Kinect will at best be complementary, not a replacement, for controllers.
And really, processing voice commands doesn't need to be done through Kinect, which costs as much as it does because of the sensors. If the main CPU has enough processing power, it would be able to do VR. Hell, smart phones do VR these days.
So for the additional $100, K2 would have to do something more revolutionary.
Maybe reason to suspect that at least a part of the reason for bundling the K2 is for the non-gaming features, so that the hook for the X1 is that it does all these fancy media features (really a new way of flipping channels and video sources) in addition to playing games.

Speaking of controllers....Using the same one from 1962 does save money.

Man I don't know what's happened but I cancelled both preorders for the PS4 and XO, not feeling either atm.

I'm just delaying my next gen purchase(s), simply because there's games I wanna play only coming outRodster wrote:Man I don't know what's happened but I cancelled both preorders for the PS4 and XO, not feeling either atm.

If you have a good PC, you're not going to be bowled over by the graphics. But if you want to play sports games at better than current gen consoles graphics, then next gen is the way to go.
Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
Yeah I guess that's my problem. I just built a screamer of a PC and i'm dedicating it as a Steam box.wco81 wrote:If you have a good PC, you're not going to be bowled over by the graphics. Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
I go through stages. I do 80% of my gaming on my PC but I still use the 360. The PS3 is seeing the first workout in forever with The Last of Us.
However I am still getting both new consoles at launch even though it's going to be a huge expense.
I find the whole Indie games thing a bit odd that it is such a big deal for console owners. Pretty much any game you find on XBLA or the PS Store are on Steam and a lot cheaper. In fact if Indy games is your thing then you should own a PC as there are many more games that you will never play.

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
This is pretty much where I am. I'm 90% going to go with an XB1, but I don't want to get one until there is the games I am looking forward to most are coming out on it. My most played sports games, besides MLB 2K13, are NCAA and NHL. And Batman: Arkham Origins is a day one purchase. None of those are going to be next gen titles. And while I might be interested in NBA Live, NBA 2K14 will certainly be better and on the 360.Murph wrote:I'm just delaying my next gen purchase(s), simply because there's games I wanna play only coming outRodster wrote:Man I don't know what's happened but I cancelled both preorders for the PS4 and XO, not feeling either atm.

I'm closer to buying the newly remodeled 360 than holding out for a One, and that leaves Sony time to convince me I should get a PS4.

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
I probably game less than anyone on this forum. I do question whether I really need a next gen console at this time. Of course, the answer is no. There are a ton of this gen titles I have never even played. I guess the pull of next gen graphics of NBA 2K14, The Show, Fifa, and Madden is just too strong however.
With that said, I had a $100 gift card to Best Buy, so I put it towards the PS4 (canceled my Amazon order). What I'm planning on doing is throwing some extra money towards the pre-order over the next five months, so it won't be such a huge expense when it does launch.
My excitement level at this particular moment is a 5 out of 10 regarding both the PS4 and Xbox One, but envision it being closer to a 8 or 9 come November. At least I hope so!

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
Mainly my thinking as well.. although The Division and I'm sure more games as they announce them will make me make my purchase with one of the next-gen consoles.Aristo wrote:

I just sold my ipad mini and will put that towards whatever I decide to buy, but NHL 14 and NCAA 14 being current gen will keep me going for awhile.

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
My feelings too. I fully expect to have more enthusiasm later, but with the last couple generations, the launch titles have not really justified the expense of early adoption. I also want to see the reliability of the consoles, too -- they are packing a lot for the price point, and that could mean some corners have been cut.sportdan30 wrote:My excitement level at this particular moment is a 5 out of 10 regarding both the PS4 and Xbox One, but envision it being closer to a 8 or 9 come November. Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
It's definitely cool technology but it may be better suited for non-gaming features and that may be ultimately where MS does the most with it.

Amen. The Indie scene on the PC is tearing it up with some amazing stuff right now.Danimal wrote: In fact if Indy games is your thing then you should own a PC as there are many more games that you will never play.
Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
This is cut and pasted from the game deals thread but I thought it warrants discussion here;
If the XBOX Live Marketplace already had (like Steam);
- bi-weekly specials (and ACTUAL specials, like the 50+% off you see on Steam)
- daily deals (7 days a week)
- 10% pre-order discounts
- day-one digital releases (like PSN already does)
Then more consumers would have been used to buying games digitally (as opposed to now where you have 4 year old games for $40) and no one would have batted an eyelash when Microsoft said that the XBOX ONE needed to be always online and had DRM.
Instead, they jumped straight to their DRM practices without any concrete benefits apart from 'you won't have to get up to switch discs'.
I think that's a large part of the reason why consumers went ape-sh!t with Microsoft's original vision for the XBOX ONE.
If indeed there are some great deals and many of those games listed are indeed $10 then this is the kind of thing Microsoft should have been doing for the past YEAR in order to get consumers used to the idea of digital distribution before the revealed the original DRM plans for the XBOX ONE.Rodster wrote:Just a heads up. I got this info from Gamespot. Supposedly Microsoft is having a HUGE ULTIMATE sale next week on a variety of games. Last week they were selling several decent games at $9.99 so hopefully we'll see the same thing.
Some games of interest are Crysis 3, Assassin's Creed III, Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
Macca sorry for the confusion. All those games listed are physical games. I recently bought Binary Domain for less than $10 with free UPS shipping. I don't know how MS sells them so cheap with UPS shipping?

It looks like the first casualty of the XONE fiasco is Don Mattrick. He's going to run Zynga.
Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
WSJ reported that Google is working on a console, which would run on Android.
Will be interesting to see if it runs more than mobile games.
