Holy crap! If you had told me as a kid watching the Secord-Savard-Larmer Hawks that they would win a two Stanley Cups in my lifetime I wouldn't have believed you. If you'd told me that same thing in the early 00's, with Old Man Wirtz's bony hands around the throat of the organization, I wouldn't have believed you and I'd have had you institutionalized.
Tonight is just too sweet.

Re: Hockey Night - 2013
NHL Network has the locker room champagne celebration now. It was classy of the Hawks players giving the cup after Toews to the guys who hadnt won it. Michael Handzus..........before tonight.......known for those crappy NHL EA games on PS2 where the annoucer would yell HANZUEESSSSS.....now finally Stanley Cup Champ after a hard 16 years.
Re: Hockey Night - 2013
Gratz Rob and all you Hawk fans..
How about Scotty Bowman? 13 mother f***in times holding the Cup.
Thirteen?!?!?!!
f***ed up that is!

Re: Hockey Night - 2013
Not a time to quibble, but Crawford got a bit hosed for the Conn Smythe. I'd have said they were 1a and 1b coming into tonight, but that first period should have sealed it for Crawford.

Crawford and Bickle or Seabrook?

It works for me on multiple levels though...

Certainly well deserved!

You guys will have another reason to hate the Canucks tomorrow as John Tortorella, yeah that Torts will be announced as the next coach to crack the whip in Lotus land.
I am sure Brooksy will missed him. Can't wait to see his tirades in a real crazed hockey mad town.

So they traded coaches?
Good for them!
Good for them!
Re: Hockey Night - 2013
Pretty much. Advantage NY though. They got AV for 5 years, a very good reasoned coach and we got an A$$hole. What do you think?XXXIV wrote:So they traded coaches?

Um...ummmm...ummmm...I tend to lean towards agree but history will decide that in a few years.10spro wrote:Pretty much. Advantage NY though. They got AV for 5 years, a very good reasoned coach and we got an A$$hole. What do you think?XXXIV wrote:So they traded coaches?

Re: Hockey Night - 2013
Now I'm sort of kind of regretting that they won.

Given that the Canucks are softer than the Stay-Puf Marshmallow Man, Torts is an ideal hire. He'll only last three or four years before he burns all of his B.C. bridges, but he'll improve that team and make it much tougher.10spro wrote:Pretty much. Advantage NY though. Brooksie is applying for a job at the Vancouver Sun as I type.

Great series. Glad it's over - don't think my heart could take a Game 7 between these two teams.

Put up a post on my site: 5 things we learned from the 2013 playoffs

Thoughts?
and that game winner. Rask was screened by Ference. The Bruins were just trying to get to OT at that point.

Re: Hockey Night - 2013
Now that I am calm let me relate a story from last night to show how crazy I am.
I'm watching the game in my family room. This is significant because I have a 10 foot 1080P screen in a theater room downstairs and my kids are in bed upstairs so I can't be noisy. However every game I watched from this spot in the playoffs they have won. If I go elsewhere they lose. I know, crazy.
3rd period 1-1 maybe 10-11 minutes left. Wife comes and sites next to me.
Me: "What are you doing"
Wife: "I want to sit next to you and watch"
Me: "Ok but if Boston scores your leaving"
Boston scores
Wife: "Should I leave?"
Me: "Nah it's ok" but I am thinking please go away.
Phone rings with 1:36 left she takes it and goes into the other room.
First goal, I give the silent run around the room. Trying not to wake anyone up.
Second goal, I can't contain myself and start yelling. Somehow kids don't wake up. 10 seconds later wife comes into the room. I grab a pillow and chuck it at her head and scream "Get out! You can't come back in here for another minute".
Game over. I give it a 2 minute grace period in case she comes back and something odd happens.
My kids laughed for 10 minutes when we told them this story at breakfast.

This article pretty much summarizes my initial thoughts on Torts.pk500 wrote:Given that the Canucks are softer than the Stay-Puf Marshmallow Man, Torts is an ideal hire. While he may motivate some youngsters, his abrasive antics may not go well with this seasoned team. With the current rosters, the window keeps closing down for the 'Nucks, I give them another couple of years before Gillis blows up this team in pieces. And ultimately it is still up to the GM to make the correct changes or he is the next to go.
As we've witnessed yesterday skills and speed can still win a Stanley Cup while everyone thinks that they shoud mold their team like LA or BOS.
And instead of one Brooksy, Tortorella will have to face many more of them in this hot crazy town not to mention the fans, and I wonder how much he can take if the results are not there in the first year.
I wish him well, a change of voice may spark this team initially as the results haven't been there during the playoffs where it counts. And with the new realignment, the West is going to be even tougher for the Canucks in 13-14.
He'll be immediately under the microscope no doubt, but personally if Gillis was seeking for another experienced coach, I would have preferred L. Ruff.
Re: Hockey Night - 2013
Apparently Patrice Bergeron was playing last night with a broken rib and a separated shoulder. Both teams were clearly hurt, more unveiling injuries to come.
