Oh, I am perfectly happy with the current 4.1 but since you mentioned previously that HTC's record of updating was poor, I am sure that most owners will welcome the update with open arms.dbdynsty25 wrote:And 4.2...meh...as long as you have Jelly Bean, you're good, unless you want lock screen widgets (overrated highly).10spro wrote:It really depends on the app, Javy. Most of mine take the whole screen, but I know there are some where they show the three white dots prompting you to either close the app or simply set up the settings for that particular window. But again the screen is so beautiful, that you won't really notice it.
Also, there's a rumor that HTC One will have the Jellybean upgrade of version 4.2 in a couple of weeks.
Either phone is awesome...I just can't stand how long HTCs take to charge, and the lack of a legitimate notification light is my biggest issue with it.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
I tell ya what...I'm certainly not enamored with the One so far...I started with it since it's different than the S3 I was using (at least more than the S4 is, haha). I'll give it a week to see if I can get used to it, but I absolutely despise the top power button and the button layout...despise them. So we'll see if I can adjust. The rest of the phone is pretty nice tho. The blacked out phone looks badass, tho it is prone to scratching more than the silver version, so keep that in mind if you plan on keeping it for a few years (of course I don't).jLp vAkEr0 wrote:Heh, man I keep going back and forth on which one to get.dbdynsty25 wrote:HTC One (black of course) and Galaxy S4 (white) in the house right now...lol, the battle will rage on. Re: OT:Smart Phones
Go the One today.
Is not a secret the button layout will take some adjusting to, but other than that this is incredible piece of hardware.
The screen just pops at you, puts the Nexus 4 screen to shame at least.
Gotta say that Sense is pretty nice.
Moved blink feed out of the home screen and it's now a glorified news aggregator that I only see when I want too.
Anyways, I got 14 days to change my mind and go with the GS4. Looking good so far.

Yeah it came out three years ago. It's not a Nexus. It's a HTC One w stock Android. Big difference.wco81 wrote:There are rumors of a Nexus One coming.

Damn battery on my iPhone 5 been really annoying me lately. Drains very quickly. If I could (not due for discount for like a year) I would consider trying the GS4 but I'd have to pay the full boat. Would Apple or ATT replace my battery if/when necessary?

Take your phone to the Apple Store and see if they will replace it. My speaker went out last month and they replaced it free of charge. I have had my iPhone5 since October of last year. Hope this helps.Diablo25 wrote:Damn battery on my iPhone 5 been really annoying me lately. Drains very quickly. Re: OT:Smart Phones
Apple is very good about replacing defective equipment...sure, but they likely won't replace it because you say the battery life is getting worse. It's just not something you can prove really. Probably won't be as easy as just swapping it out. Good luck w/ that.
Oh, and speaking of batteries, the HTC One is mediocre at best. The GS3 puts it to shame...so we'll see how the GS4 compares shortly.

My experience with the One is that the battery is better than the Nexus 4, but not by much.
Doesn't really affect me.
Oh btw, loving the One.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Just got an update from the One, will find out what's all about. One feature it's not mentioned too often with the HTC One: The Boom sound just rocks, the sound from your flicks or audio is top notch.

Got the update too.
People on forums say the capacitive buttons are more responsive, but I haven't had those issues anyways.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Haven't been a huge fan of the One so far, but I'm on vacation so I'm not using it how I normally do and the battery is dreadful. So it really is going to get a few days next week before it gets returned if it's as bad as I think it is. It just isn't very usable at all. I've never had to charge my S3 during the day and nearly every day this week I've had to charge the One mid day. So we'll see I guess, but my hopes are very low at this point from what I've see so far.
I also don't see the fascination with either the S4 or the One in "pure android" form right now. After using the One, I've actually come to appreciate the camera app (stock android is horrendous) so I can deal with the other tainting of the software. It'll be interesting to see how the cameras of the S4 and the One perform with the stock app compared to the Touchwiz and Sense apps. That and the ridiculous cost $650 for the S4 and $599 for the One and I'm even more skeptical. I was stoked initially, but the One software (with Nova Launcher) is actually not horrible. They've improved it a bunch since the Incredible 2 I had previously.
That said...this is interesting news:

Current One owners being able to flash to stock once they release that code. Interesting for sure.

When I was in Vegas, the Nexus 4 battery woes came in to light. Couple of times the battery couldn't get me through the day so we had to use my wife's iPhone 4 on most nights out.
But at least I can now get a Mophie for the HTC One which would negate this issue.
BTW, I feel the same way about the Nexus experience on this phone. I like this version of Sense and I've haven't even felt the need to get a custom launcher.
But I wouldn't mind having the option to install a AOSP rom from HTC. That would be nice.

Look like the update to 4.2.2 for the HTO will eliminate the black menu bar on legacy apps.
You'll be able to map the menu key by long pressing the home button.
Great!

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Been home for a few days now and the battery still sucks on the One. Two more days and then it's being returned if I can't figure out a way to make it through an entire day without needing to plug it in. It's the biggest downside BY FAR. The GS4 is looking better and better every day even though I'll miss the camera on the One indoors for sure.
Re: OT:Smart Phones
I downloaded 'battery saver' and that app somehow has extended if not, has not 'drained' my battery as quick as before. Not sure if it'll be a difference maker for you anyways by the sound of it, I am sure you'll like the S4.dbdynsty25 wrote:Been home for a few days now and the battery still sucks on the One. DB,
Have you been using the battery saving mode?
There's an app too called Snapdragon battery guru.
I remember installing it on the Nexus 4 but really couldn't determine how much it helped.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Nope, no battery saving mode. I'm just using my phone like every other phone I've ever used and it's iffy at best. I'm not dimming the screen, under clocking the silicone or reducing anything else. I want to use the phone to it's full power at all times and it should last me from 7am-11pm daily. The One is the first phone I've used in the past few years that hasn't met that expectation. The original Incredible was the last one I can remember that I had to milk every last battery percentage out of it to get through the whole day.

Selling my GS3 for Verizon (black and mint condition rooted and unlocked) if anyone is interested. $300 bucks shipped in the US.
Re: OT:Smart Phones
I'm think I'm getting old, because the iPhone 5 screen size just isn't getting it done for me anymore. I would hate to leave the ecosystem ( I have an iPad too), but I'm thinking of rebelling and go extreme the other way any maybe get the Note 3 later this year.

Last couple of days I've started to notice the battery drain too.
I left my charger at home last couple days and with normal use I'm hitting 20% BEFORE 5-6PM.
Really annoying.
