Re: Tiger Woods 14 thread, part II
Sorry, but it sounds to me like the TW development team needs a year off to get its elementary sh*t together. I can't think of a more buggy release from EA in recent years, based on what I've read here and in other forums.

As the filter of my Fanboy lenses is starting to fade, I can see where you can say this. I don't know that they need to take a year off, they need to build a core game engine that doesn't stub its toe over every option you want to apply to it.pk500 wrote:Sorry, but it sounds to me like the TW development team needs a year off to get its elementary sh*t together. This thread makes me feel like I'm missing something. I love this game. Not even sure what needs patched (but that could be just the way I play it I guess)?

Same here. Maybe it's an online thing. The patch today fixed the putting cam so it just got better, greggsand wrote:This thread makes me feel like I'm missing something. I love this game. Not even sure what needs patched (but that could be just the way I play it I guess)?

Re: Tiger Woods 14 thread, part II
I come across an occasional drop issue and some weird scoreboard stuff in the online tourneys, but other than that, it's a pretty fun and challenging game. I clearly don't play as much as many of you guys, so I probably don't get as frustrated, but its not like every other sports game doesn't have a ton of issues that get patched as the season/year goes on. It's just sports games in general. They ALL have some issues.greggsand wrote:This thread makes me feel like I'm missing something. I love this game. Re: Tiger Woods 14 thread, part II
Personally, this game has blown up in EA's faces. The EA Tiger forums are full of users complaining just as much about the patched version as the original. Sean Wilson is pulling his hair out right now seeing all the new issues that the patch for PS3 is causing. The EA Tiger forum users are predominately online users, but when a patch comes out and it breaks more features in the game that worked previously, something is definitely wrong. While I enjoy working with the TW Dev Team, they again were asked to bite off more than they could chew with the resources allocated to them and we have a game full of potential greatness marred by numerous bugs that aren't easily fixed with the current engine. Speaking of the current game engine, they need to scrap it for Next Gen completely and get one that is much more stable and has a great deal of room to grow through the years if EA wants to add to it. The current engine has been tweaked, added on and subtracted features to the point that it has become unstable and very difficult to troubleshoot. Last thing, EA needs to go to the dictionary and look up the words "Quality" and "Assurance" because they damn sure don't have this in TW14. I would love for someone to step in and buy EA before they begin on Next Gen game, clean house, then try to resurrect the brand with a whole new approach. When you win "Worst Company in America" two years in a row and have the reputation that these guys have, something has got to give.pk500 wrote:Sorry, but it sounds to me like the TW development team needs a year off to get its elementary sh*t together. All of this won't matter a bit if their games continue to sell like they do and there's no competition.DivotMaker wrote:Personally, this game has blown up in EA's faces. DM, I don't frequent the EA forums but what are the latest issues post the patch for PS3 players?
Re: Tiger Woods 14 thread, part II
I can hit the major ones:10spro wrote:DM, I don't frequent the EA forums but what are the latest issues post the patch for PS3 players?
Clubs in your bag reset to the default, basic clubs after playing an online H2H match. You have to restock your clubs manually, including selecting specific lofts.
Putter head disappears and occasionally, putterhead and shaft. Your golfer swings a grip on the green.
When cycling through cameras, you occasionally get contorted golfer views from a variety of bizarre angles
Game hangs after completing a H2 Hmatch launched from the club or open game lobby.
H2H follow cam now follows opponent's ball, but is laggy and choppy.
Those are the ones that stand out in my mind, but there are more. On the bright side, folks say the stationary putting camera and lack of the auto-rewind follow camera on tee and approach shots is working great!

I can tell that Sean is at the end of his rope over this. I don't think he's getting the sort of testing and QA support needed to make this work in a timely fashion. Their test environment also seems to be poorly suited to simulate the real networked world.DivotMaker wrote:Personally, this game has blown up in EA's faces. I agree with your take that the current engine has had all of the tweaking and add-ons it can take. It feels like it's on life support now, but the things it does right, it does really well. I think it's going to be at least a two patch game to get it to where it can hold customer interest for two years.
Re: Tiger Woods 14 thread, part II
Last year, I couldn't get enough this game, and this year after one tourney, I've ad too much already. If it wasn't for the legends in the game this title wouldn't be in my library?
And where's this patch that everyone speaks of? I'm on the 360 and haven't been asked to update yet.

There's an issue where the patch crashes on the 360 according to MS. Another couple of weeks for us Xbox players.ddtrane wrote:Last year, I couldn't get enough this game, and this year after one tourney, I've ad too much already. Re: Tiger Woods 14 thread, part II
James, how current is this information? I haven't read an official 360 patch update since yesterday afternoon, and at that point Sean Wilson said that it looked like they would likely submit the 360 patch on Tuesday, and if that was the case, we should see it on Monday. There's still a lot of controversy over whether they should release it since it is "likely" that it would be suffering the club reset and missing putterhead/shaft bug.10spro wrote:There's an issue where the patch crashes on the 360 according to MS. As of 8:00 EDT on 5/1/13, there's no official update for today as to whether the patch has been approved by Microsoft, but nothing negative had been heard with yesterday's update.
Re: Tiger Woods 14 thread, part II
Personally, I rather see S. Wilson keep working on the patch instead of releasing the same thing that's affecting H2H online games for PS3 players. My buddy also heard that the 360 patch would be released for MS the next couple of days and by the time they complete the testing it would take another 4-5 days.J_Cauthen wrote:James, how current is this information? Re: Tiger Woods 14 thread, part II
Sean Wilson updated the 360 patch news last night after 9:30 PM EDT. It just said that at that time there were still no problems reported by Microsoft. He thought they would have gotten confirmation that the patch was good to go yesterday though. I asked him this morning if EA had been able to confirm that the club resetting and disappearing putterhead/shaft issues had shown up in their internal testing of the 360 version, after being able to reproduce it in house on the PS3, post-patch. I doubt I'll see an answer until I get home from work this afternoon. I still haven't read where they had officially confirmed this to be a problem with the 360 patch as of last night.10spro wrote:Personally, I rather see S. Thanks for that link, I had not seen that site before!
Re: Tiger Woods 14 thread, part II
I played it last night for the first time I think in 2 weeks and only did Legends. But when I'm done with Legends, I don't know if I'll be keeping it. I enjoy the game a lot, but there is too much sameness from year 1 to year 2 of the season.ddtrane wrote:Last year, I couldn't get enough this game, and this year after one tourney, I've ad too much already. btw....if you watch the NHL Playoffs video when you turn the game on, you get a free pack of pins. I've never used these pins as it seems like cheating when you activate them on the course.
Re: Tiger Woods 14 thread, part II
Great news breaking today... the patch has been approved by Microsoft, and it will likely go live tomorrow morning! I've got a lot of catching up to do once this baby is installed!
Update: It has been confirmed, 360 patch goes live in the AM and the stats and leaderboards get reset.... can't wait! Hell, I'm more excited over this than I was the game release

360 patch is out.
Re: Tiger Woods 14 thread, part II
Putting camera fixed - check
Game stuttering and interrupting my shot - no check
Yes, I've tried clearing my cache several times. Game has been stuttering since day 1
Also I thought stats were supposed to be reset along with the delivery of the patch, no?

I'm only seeing a minor stutter maybe once or twice a round, but never one that interrupts my shot. Can you describe what happens in a little more detail?Wilk5280 wrote:Putting camera fixed - check

I've had a lot of time with the patch this morning on the 360, and so far, it's really looking pretty good. The stationary Follow putting camera is a welcome relief and restores the perspective needed for putting. I felt like I was so much more "in the game" following my >10 foot putts from over my golfer's shoulder; I know it's an insignificant change to most gamers, but it's huuuuge for me

I've played 4 H2H match play games online and have not experienced one club reset. I did reboot my 360 after downloading the patch this morning, so I don't know if that *may* have helped. I'm sure this will need more time before I have any real useful data from which to make an assessment. OTOH, I do see the laggy, flashing/stuttering ball in Follow cam coverage of my opponent's shots. It's easily preferable to watching a frozen golfer, and is by no means a game breaker, but it looks a bit dodgy, compared to last year's H2H multiplayer camera coverage.
The biggest nit I can pick with the game post-patch is that when I played a 5-hole connected tournament, I was briefly not seeing my golfer on the tee initially, then after changing aim, getting a contorted golfer, but within seconds he righted himself and took a normal stance. I saw that three times on five tees and it varied in duration from 2 to 5 seconds before it corrected itself. I'm not sure if my changing aim helped speed that along a bit, but it seemed to . I'll be interested to see what others are experiencing with this.
The stat/leaderboard reset will occur at 10:00 AM EDT, from what I read. I'm not starting our next DSP CC tournaments until after that occurs. We'll have a new 4 rounder starting at 3:00 PM EDT, and a new 1 rounder starting at 11:00 AM EDT.Also I thought stats were supposed to be reset along with the delivery of the patch, no?

Re: Tiger Woods 14 thread, part II
Well it's pretty simple really. I start my swing and the game stutters, or freezes for just a second, interrupting the fluidity of my swing. End result is me usually duck hooking one left OB or pushing it dead right OB. Either way more times than not it results in a penalty of some sort. It's gotten to where I have to just look at my controller while making the swing instead of my golfer on screen.

Re: Tiger Woods 14 thread, part II
Okay, now that you mention that; I occasionally get a refusal of the golfer to take the club back on a short chip or pitch. It's like the short controller movement isn't being registered by the game. I have to reset and sometimes re-target to execute the swing I want. Maybe happens once per round. I can't think of a time where I've gotten a stutter during my backswing, but I'll be on the alert for it.Wilk5280 wrote:Well it's pretty simple really. Re: Tiger Woods 14 thread, part II
So should we now expect to see correct scoring for the DSP CC daily's and tournaments, along with correct stats during the rounds?
