Re: MLB 13 The Show
Call me confused. Graphically there is something about the game that's simply not adding up. Player faces seemed a bit improved, but the rest of the game (dare I say it) looks less polished than last year in terms of visuals. I checked to make sure my console was on 720 and it was. First ball hit was a grounder to SS and the resulting throw to first seemed like there was some sort of frame drop as the ball approached first base. I've also seen some throws from the OF that just seemed a bit off. I'm not sure if some of these things are camera related or just my imagination.

I decided not to buy this years game based on pre-release info. I've noticed that the release point on the throwing animation is slightly off and has been for the last 2-3 years but that's just nit-picking. It's still a solid game. Is it a coincidence that we are seeing a few more problems cropping up since the lead designer left and was assigned to a new project?FifaInspected wrote:Call me confused. Re: MLB 13 The Show
I am indeed seeing frequent stutters as the ball leaves the pitcher's hand. It's not impeding my hitting or anything, but it's a bit annoying. I'm feeding 720p to a native 720p projector. Maybe a different camera will help? Not an issue on the Vita version.
Aside from that, I love that they've opened up the timing window a bit (I can hit on All-Star again), the hitting physics seem reworked for the better, I like the new throwing meter, and it's tougher to place my pitches (I use pulse).
Going to log some serious time into Diamond Dynasty this year. I recreated the old independent Brooklyn Bushwicks uniforms, and trounced the Mets 9-1. Man, the Mets. There's nothing less scary than Mike Baxter batting sixth.

Re: MLB 13 The Show
No stuttering issues on the Vita, and the throwing did take a bit of adjusting in the beginning for me due to the arc meter but it got better. Should I've have known that downloading the digital version would take so long (still at it) I would have bought the disc.
Re: MLB 13 The Show
I just play RTTS mode. Is it worth getting the Vita version if I still have last years game?10spro wrote:No stuttering issues on the Vita, and the throwing did take a bit of adjusting in the beginning for me due to the arc meter but it got better. Re: MLB 13 The Show
On the Vita, the visuals do appear brighter and sharper than last years game. They added a few more animations but without seeing the PS3 version yet, it's safe to say that it won't look as nice as the bigger sister.
Gameplay though is solid with all the modes included and unless you want to wait until the end if summer, you probably won't see a price decrease anytime soon on this version.
I travel a lot so 'The Show' on the road works for me and it's worth every penny.

Re: MLB 13 The Show
Are you using broadcast camera for the fielding? I switch both mine to medium instantly because the orientation of the broadcast cameras is disorienting and might be what's causing your "just a bit off" feeling. The only place I use the broadcast camera is when pitching so that I get the different behind the pitcher view in each ballpark so that it's more realistic.FifaInspected wrote:Call me confused. Sorry for being an ignorant fool (and I don't remember having these problems in last year's game) but how does one get the latest official rosters downloaded? Also I'm sure someone here visits OS: what's the roster to look out for in the vault for all the proper minor league adjustments and fixes?

You want Knights rosters. Guy is a bit full of himself but his rosters are the best. You'll be waiting a while though. I don't think he usually releases them to opening day or later.

If you want the March 3rd update, from the main menu, scroll all the way to the right and download the live roster.Zeppo wrote:Sorry for being an ignorant fool (and I don't remember having these problems in last year's game) but how does one get the latest official rosters downloaded? Re: MLB 13 The Show
I too had a difficult time figuring out where to download the latest roster. It was different last year from what I recall. Actually, after I "saved" the roster, I still was unsure if I had downloaded it. I did a play now game and the Carpenter was off the MLB roster and Cedeno had been added to the roster. Well, Cedeno is going back to the minors and I'm recalling Kozma. Cedeno is awful!
I'm using meter pitching at the moment, but may have to play with the control slider. I haven't walked anyone yet. Then again, I'm pitching on Veteran.
Opening up the timing window has to be one of the more significant improvements. Strikeouts seems a heck of a lot more realistic.
Still not completely happy with the visuals. I've watched some HD videos and they seem a lot crisper than mine at the moment.
Stuttering is no longer an issue once I disabled media center in the Network settings. However, I do sometimes see a little frame rate skip from time to time.
Have not noticed any issues regarding any hitches or glitches with the CPU pitches.
Increased hit variety, better timing window, fielding throwing meter, faster quick play, player accessories, etc really deliver a fantastic experience. IMO, a definite improvement over '12.

Re: MLB 13 The Show
double post...

Re: MLB 13 The Show
Well how about that. I just booted up the game and it prompted me that a new roster (March 3) was available. No wonder I couldn't remember how I did it last year. It was all automatic and idiot proof!dbdynsty25 wrote:If you want the March 3rd update, from the main menu, scroll all the way to the right and download the live roster.Zeppo wrote:Sorry for being an ignorant fool (and I don't remember having these problems in last year's game) but how does one get the latest official rosters downloaded? Re: MLB 13 The Show
I took a personal day yesterday to celebrate the release.
Kicked off the digital download at 9pm PST Monday night and it was ready to install when I got up at 7am on release day. I'm hoping this is a new trend because not having to wait for the UPS guy or drive to a store was awesome.
Except for the hour I went outside for a run, and an hour break for dinner when the missus came home from work, I played for the whole day. It took all my will power to turn off the system at 10pm. I think the game has actually exceeded my expectations in just about every way. I know I will put most of my time into RTTS, but the other modes will get ample play time as well. Some quick thoughts:
- Have not seen any pitcher-stuttering in 12 hours of play. I've seen it with a couple of cut-scenes, but that doesn't impact anything.
- Graphics are great both in motion and in freeze frame - I spend too much time admiring stuff in replay mode. The lighting improvements lead to quite a few "that looks real!" moments in the game. Looks great in both day and night games.
- I really like all of the changes to RTTS (especially base running!), including the new cameras and the approach they took with the sound.
- I use classic pitching and timing batting (had to give up on zone hitting a year ago - reflexes aren't what they used to be!) and the changes they have made have allowed me to play on the All-Star level with both pitching and batting. Both feel perfectly suited to my skills...
- I like the new fielding interface with the meter. Really well implemented. Just enough of a challenge without being frustrating.
- Hitting feels really good and the hit variety is sooo nice. Balls slice and hook appropriately, and I've even left the ball-trail on (didn't think I would) as it really showcases the ball movement in the air.
- Yeah, Matty V. is getting a bit old in the virtual booth, but I really like the guy from his time as a Padres broadcaster so I'm ok with another year of him.

Glad you are digging it Leadfoot. I agree with all of what you said. I am LOVING hitting this year. Pitch speed, which I always felt was too fast, is tons better. There is so much polish to admire in the game it is ridiculous. I started playing RTTS and its phenomenal.Leadfoot5 wrote:I took a personal day yesterday to celebrate the release.Kicked off the digital download at 9pm PST Monday night and it was ready to install when I got up at 7am on release day. Re: MLB 13 The Show
Just a note. I've got one of the latest PS3s (the last one before the new ugly ass redesign) and it's LOUD. Lots of loading going on from the disk even though I've got the full game installed. I'm about to just sell my disk and buy the digital version because I know I won't be selling the game anyway. So if you have a choice, definitely go download.
I am concerned that if I do buy the full game through the PSN...whether or not I'll be able to download the purchase over to my second PS3 as well. Has anyone done that before? I'm sure it'll work fine, but I just don't want to waste 60 bucks for the week or two I'll be playing on my older system when my mom is in town using my office as a damn bedroom. LOL.

Re: MLB 13 The Show
Well, I've been able to buy things from the PS3 and then transfer it to the Vita without any issues and as long as you log in your PSN ID it shouldn't be a problem. But we are talking about Sony here, so I m not 100% sure. Wished I could try that out for you as I also have a second PS3 but I'll be out of town tomorrow until Sunday. I bought the digital copy and asides from the ridiculous time it took me to DL it, once installed I had no issues with stuttering except a couple of slowdowns with some cut scenes.
The game is gorgeous, much sharper than the Vita as expected and so far I've been having more success with the meter pitching than pulse. Classic pitching works too but the meter definitely gives you more of a sweat in tight game scenarios. Had a few nervous moments trying to find the knuckleball with Dickey.
The commentary is OK, thy added enough insight to some of the moves made offseason but I can see also how some folks are getting tired of the same voice.
Can't wait to try RTTS, in the meantime I'll be playing it on the Vita until I get back.

Re: MLB 13 The Show
Echoing the same sentiments as everyone else, but a couple things that are a little bothersome,,I use auto running and in previous editions I was able to cue up a base runner for a steal or hit/run by hitting the left trigger. Either I'm doing something wrong or that has been removed. Moved up to All star and went zone hitting and albeit a small sample size,it does seem a lot of 1st pitch strikes over the heart of the plate which I'm turning on rather easily. Not seeing the stuttering some are talking about. In one of those eye opening moments, had the Marlins try the hidden ball trick after Molina reached 3rd and was chatting with the 3rd base coach.
Work is getting in the way of more time with this.

Yeah, we'll see what happens. I bought the digital version last night, and downloaded and installed it. Now I am re-downloading it on the other PS3. With Cloud Saves it shouldn't be an issue, so we'll see. I'll report back just in case anyone gives a crap. That's a great question Scott. This is the first game I've downloaded. My first PS3 died about a month ago so I downloaded the game on a new unit. I really enjoying playing without all the noise from my disc drive. I'm interested if you can download it on both of your PS3's.dbdynsty25 wrote:Just a note. A picture I grabbed from the beginning of my RTTS career. Not a new animation for '13, but a fun one nonetheless. When I zoomed in on a closeup of the replay, the ball only missed him by about 5 inches...

Re: MLB 13 The Show
Lead...I actually saw the baserunner go to the ground once on a ball hit just like that. It was awesome. I've seen the ump do it in the past, but never a guy on 3rd.
Re: MLB 13 The Show
Amazing game...but unfortunately I'm experiencing constant stuttering (every inning for sure) when a pitch leaves the CPUs hands. It's just enough to ruin an at bat sometimes- obviously in baseball, timing is everything. I will start tweaking network/display settings tonight.
The game is beautiful otherwise and plays great. Crossing my fingers!
