If you plan to use the tablet while in bed, the smaller tablets will make a big difference.

that's a good point, but I rarely bring it upstairs to bed.

was at Best Buy today just checking things out and the clerk there said "forget any of these...get the Nexus 10 online for $400".....lol.
I have seens many favorable reviews of both the Nexus 7 and 10. Supposidly, the Nexus 7 blows away the Ipad mini and for a lot cheaper.

I told you the Nexus 10 is a beast for $400. :)

I own the Nexus 7 and it hits the sweet spot for performance and size. The nice thing about the N7 is the width of the tablet. You can easily hold it in one hand like an oversized cellphone. Jelly Bean aka 4.2 is a damn good OS. For $199 you can't go wrong with the 16GB Nexus 7.

Build quality of the Nexus 7 are spotty.

The other difference is that iPads are 4:3 and other tablets are 16:9 or 16:10. That's okay for landscape and if you view movies, the bars on the top and bottom are not as wide.

But if you read books or use the web browser in portrait mode, some people say the 16:9 and 16:10 are too thin for portrait mode.

Thats exactly what I got today... a Nexus 7 16Gb for $199. It wasnt easy to find the 16g model, but a nearby Office Depot had a few left. Cant wait to test it out. I figure the demand is great for these right now, so if I dont like it I can resell it pretty easily (Office Depot doesnt refund you if it's been opened). Rodster, any N7 tips would be great! Also, how about a few good games to start me off? :)

Congrats, you'll love it. As for tips just use it, it's pretty easy to figure out. If you get stumped then ask away and we'll try and answer it for you.

As far as games go, there's tons of free stuff on the Android App Store. The free games are ad-based so you have to put up with ads. You can get around that by turning off Wifi or putting it in Airplane mode. I find that if I do that before I start the game you won't get bothered with ads. Most of the ad-based games are the exact same as the pay games it just annoys you with ads.

I don't know what kind of games you like so don't know what to suggest. I'm hooked on Air Control. It's a simple but addicting game. If you like radio then Tunein, iHeart, Spotify, Pandora, MOG, are apps you should try. They are free btw.

Your N7 may have come with the Transformer movie. Check that out. You can either stream it or install it. I prefer to stream it as it saves space. So have fun and don't worry you can't break the OS. Worse case scenario is you'll have to reset the device and it erases everything and you start back fresh.

Thanks that's a great tip about airplane mode.

Wow this thing takes a long time to charge up. I've had it plugged in for almost 3 hours now and it's up to 98%. Hopefully this is just because it's the initial charge. I did a quick search on this and some other people are are reporting that it does take an unusually long time to charge so I guess it's good to be have to be plugged in every night so it's ready for me in the morning.

I have a brand new Kindle Fire HD 7" 16gb tablet sitting on my desk if anyone is interested in saving a few bucks off retail ($199)...maybe $180 shipped in the US.

Rodster have a quick question about the Nexus 7. What are you doing for a case? The unit is kind of small so I'm not sure it needs 1 since it's so easy to hold in your hand.but if you have any recommendations as far as cases go or do you just use a sleeve, I would appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

by the way, the speech to text feature works pretty good. I'm using it now :D

I bought this case http://www.amazon.com/Blurex-Ultra-Slim ... ex+nexus+7

If you like voice recognition apps, you should try the Dolphin browser. I pretty kickass.

There is a news app called "Flipboard" that is just unbelievably good. Puts all your news and feeds and social networks into one magazine format app. If you haven't checked it out you really should.

Rodster....I am loving the Nexus 7 and the Android interface so far, but my only quesion in my mind is would I rather have the Nexus 10?
Are you OK with just a 7" tablet? It certainly has its pluses and minuses, but sometimes I miss that larger screen. I think 8.5" would be perfect ! :) But I guess you have to pick you poison? 7" is nice and portable...can take it anywhere and it's easy to hold in one hand....easy for games where you tilt the whole tablet...great for a bookreader, etc. But the 10" is better for surfing the web and movies and videos.

It's a pretty big issue tho...and luckily the forums I frequent all are fine, or have tapatalk (DSP is fine in regular browser, OS is tapatalk, Android Central is tapatalk, XDA Developers is tapatalk and so is head-fi).

Any of you guys own the Kindle Paperwhite and can give me your impressions? I've looked at them in the store and they really appeal to me. Love the form fator and light weight. My iPad 3 isn't really suited for e-reading because of the glossy screen and weight (not to mention the distractions with web browsing, checking email, etc).

Kindle has web browsing and email too, just not in color.

But if you do a lot of eBook reading and reading outside, certainly a lot lighter.

And a lot cheaper than even the iPad Mini.

Dan db said he bought one. I tried one at Best Buy and tbh I prefer the Kindle Fire HD for reading. I love the reverse text color for reading. Did you try the Kindle app on your iPad?

I'm at BB now and tbh I'm not completely sold either....yet. Although I do love the weight and form factor. The responsiveness concerns me a bit. Gonna check out the kindle fire now.

Do not get a Fire, Fire HD or anything with Amazon in front of it whatever you do. The Nexus 7 is so far superior it's not even funny.

As for the Paperwhite...it's a nice device. I'm a little turned off by the uneveness of the screen lighting so I rarely use it. In fact, I haven't turned it on since I got my iPad Mini really. It's okay, but I should probably just give it to my mom.

Well, I was definitely more impressed with the Kindle HD than the Paperwhite. Perhaps it was the spectacular looking display and the responsiveness was very good.

My original intentions were to sell my iPad 3 for the Mini when the retina screen Mini released. Maybe I'm better off waiting.....

Do any stores carry the Nexus 7 to sample?

Staples and Office Depot. The N7 destroys the KF HD and Jelly Bean just piles on.

You may not get the Retina Mini this year.

Not unless they make it heavier and thicker, like they did the iPad 3.

There's an Office Depot near where I work, so I'll go by and check out the Nexus 7 tomorrow. Reading up and watching some video reviews. Looks very sleek and well put together.

I am concerned about support and whether sales will be good going forward with this device. I apologize, but I'm pretty ignorant to these devices as I think about branching out from my Apple eco system.

Google tablets and phones have a solid future with good support. The only problem going forward is that the N7 has been out for awhile now and the next version might be announced in the next 1-2 months.
