Um, LOVE it. Hansen has been terrible for a year and a half (all while getting fatter and throwing slower) and the Braves have plenty of starting pitching depth. Adding a closer/setup guy that throws hard, has good splits against lefties and can bridge the gap to Kimbrel along with O'Flaherty and Venters, you gotta do it. Especially when you save 4-5 million on the deal and bring your available funds to 13-14 million for LF. Bring on Justin Upton! The Braves REALLY need to trade with Arizona to have both Uptons. That would be my ideal LF fill in going forward. Unfortunately, I think they are going to go after the hated Shane Victornio. Ugh, former Phillies.fanatic wrote:Not sure about trading Hanson for Walden (literally just happened) though. Yeah, I'm probably using my memory of what Hansen used to be instead of what he's done lately. Declining velocity at this age is never a good thing. I think the 4-5 million saved played a huge part for sure...if I remember hearing correctly, the new TV deals don't favor the Braves too much - meaning they will need to be a little creative when moving contracts/singing guys.dbdynsty25 wrote:Um, LOVE it. I would also rather have Justin Upton - but the price will be very very large. Depending on what Victorino wants, it might be less crippling to the farm system.

Angels are insane.
Re: MLB 2012 Season
I thought they would have learned their lesson when they got V. Wells. Hope a good therapist is part of the deal.dbdynsty25 wrote:Angels are insane.
Re: MLB 2012 Season
Wells is now their 5th outfielder at $21M per. Nice! They could still an outfielder, but still!10spro wrote:I thought they would have learned their lesson when they got V. Wells. Hope a good therapist is part of the deal.dbdynsty25 wrote:Angels are insane.
Seems like this move could benefit the Jays, in that no one team seems to be running away as clear AL favorites. There are now a whole lot of competitive teams...should be a crazy year. At this point, you'd have to say that only the Astros, Twins and Mariners won't have post-season expectations.

Re: MLB 2012 Season
Lets not confuse Hamilton with V. Wells, with that said you still gotta play em on the field. Unless they sign another pitcher, who outside of J. Weaver and perhaps C.J. Wilson scares you in that rotation? You gotta pitch to win championships,,ask S.F. 2 outta the last 3 yrs. Go back to 1995 (the short season) when Cleveland w/ A. Belle,Thome,Ramirez,Baerga,Alomar Jr.,K.Lofton,P. Sorrento(had 25+ HR),etc. got completely shut down by the ATL. w/Schmoltz,Maddux,Glavine,etc....sorry lexbur,,and your welcome Db10spro wrote:I thought they would have learned their lesson when they got V. Rumors are in the work that Cy young winner Dickey is headed to the Jays for prospect T. d'Arnaud. While the youngster is still to bat in the majors, he's one of the better assets in the club and R.A is already what 37-38?
I would hold off AA, the trade with the Marlins should be a good start. If it becomes a reality, it's safe to say that J.P Arencibia is going nowhere.

Age means nothing to a knuckleballer...those guys can pitch forever. Wouldn't worry about that number unless he was 43-44.10spro wrote:Rumors are in the work that Cy young winner Dickey is headed to the Jays for prospect T. d'Arnaud. Re: MLB 2012 Season
True dat about rubber band arm pitchers. I just wouldn't involve a deal with D'Arnaud if Dickey is staying only for a year. An extension contract would get my attention.dbdynsty25 wrote:Age means nothing to a knuckleballer...those guys can pitch forever. Re: MLB 2012 Season
They've worked out an extension of $25M for 2014/2015. That's $30M for 3 years. Great deal I'd say.
Obviously they gave up more than I was expecting, but it shows that they are truly committed to winning now.
Great rotation:
1. R.A. Dickey
2. Brandon Morrow
3. Mark Buehrle
4. Josh Johnson
5. Ricky Romero

Re: MLB 2012 Season
Yeah, obviously as a frustrated fan for over 18 years finally the frugality of management has stopped. They would tease the fans in signing a big name or two and then trade them away after July. With these trades, the time is now and I applaud them for it. Romero felt all the pressure in the world last season in carrying this team forward and pitching in the #4-5 spot relieves that pressure. Interesting enough now with the trade, the catching position which was one of the club's fortes has become a weakness should something happen to Arencibia.fanatic wrote:They've worked out an extension of $25M for 2014/2015. AL East will be fun to watch.
Re: MLB 2012 Season
No doubt. Even with all the acquisitions there's no guarantee with the Jays. Yankees are older but they'll be around (rumors they are after V. Wells), Rays are fun to watch, Orioles have turned the corner and BOS seems to be in transition but can't count them out either.fsquid wrote:AL East will be fun to watch.

Nobody elected to HOF. Baseball - such a wonderful HOF voting process.

Re: MLB 2012 Season
As much as I don't think the steroid guys deserve to be there, they really do deserve to be there. I mean these are the best players of the generation (Bonds and Clemens, screw Sosa), with or without roids...so it's stupid they aren't in. I guess the HOF really can't let them in because if they did then Pete Rose would have a nice lawsuit against them and they'd have to admit they messed up.
Piazza and Biggio should have been locks too.

Re: MLB 2012 Season
I'm glad Bonds and Clemens weren't voted in. Bonds is one shrewd character and played the system. He and others who put up huge numbers by cheating shouldn't be allowed to get in either.

Congrats to the Baseball Writers Association of America for taking a stand against lowered standards and the status quo.

Jack Morris should have at least made it. I have no problem w/ the PED guys not making it. They'll eventually get in someday after they serve do their time in 'baseball purgatory' via the writers votes.

I agree. Hell,MLB didn't begin testing players for steroids and P.E.D.'s until 2002. They didn't get strict about it until 2005. The owners and MLB raked in the benefits of the HR races and records. They reaped what they sowed. The Hall of Fame is is home to bigots, liars, drunks, coke heads and speed freaks. Why not PED users. It's time for the fans to decide who enters the Hall, the baseball writers time has passed. I'm not a fan of either, but I believe Bonds and Clemons deserve to be in.

Are you a Tigers fan or something? He only made the all-star team 5 times in a 17 year career and only won 254 games w/ a 3.90 ERA. There is nothing even close to HOF material in that stat line. Okay fine, maybe close on the wins.Inuyasha wrote:Jack Morris should have at least made it.
