But I get it... I wonder how the hell you do it in racing games.

Blasphemy! That's the main reason I love Battlefield - you don't have to be a killing machine to lead your team in points and help your side win. Not just capturing points but also doing support actions like healing, re-supplying, spotting and so on.pk500 wrote:I had the gayest score of all last night -- led my team on points in Conquest for one round despite having just one kill. So says the guy who treats his DSP buddies in Battlefield like grain grinding through a thresher ...Macca00 wrote:Blasphemy! Yes, though if you got the premium edition it includes some kind of online "head-start" to unlock some stuff automatically.webdanzer wrote:I just picked it up. Anything a noob should know? Will I be gimped until I level up some?
Thanks Boom! I did end up switching to Engineer after a while for the anti-armor weapon, as I was getting rocked at some checkpoints vs armor. Held my own on infantry one-on-ones, though!Wilk5280 wrote:Web,
We were playing on the Armored Kill maps last night which do include the largest maps in the game. Assault Class probably isn't the best choice. I went with Engineer for the shoulder fired alt. weapon and the claymores (or repair tool comes in handy too).
If you enjoy Assault Class don't fret, there are a lot of maps and modes in which that class is king as far as racking up the support points.
Didn't they nerf the FAMAS in one of the patches? I remember it being badass way back when, but I tried it for a few minutes last night and it had crazy kick.Wilk5280 wrote:The Famas is a bad-mamma-jamma for the Assault Class. It's a bit rough at first with the iron sights, but once you unlock a reflex or something of that nature it's a mighty fine piece of gear.
Also if you want to level up a bit faster to unlock more weapons and class perks Conquest Domination is the fastest way to earn XP that I've found. You'll also get a lot more kills to unlock stuff for your weapons.
All the weapons have been tweaked a lot.Naples39 wrote:Didn't they nerf the FAMAS in one of the patches? I cut my teeth on the Assault Class when I first started playing BF3 - you can level up really, really quickly using assault. Healing/Med Kits get you 20-30 points easy each time someone uses them, once you unlock the defibrillator you get the same amount of points for reviving a teammate as you do killing someone - this is also clutch in Conquest as you get that ticket back for your team so you're really important to victory. The Assault class guns are also all high capacity weapons that make it easy to get a lot of kills (though, like Rob said, there's no one weapon that's clutch).webdanzer wrote:Assault class seems fairly underwhelming with all the vehicles in this game. What's the upside, the healing?
At the moment not sure why one would take this over one of the other classes that can take on armor as well as infantry...
There are so many weapons and attachments in this game, and they've massively tweaked them multiple times, I feel like I have no idea what works anymore. And if they're going to "balance" them so much to make them equal, then having them all is just needless clutter. Pretty frustrating IMO...RobVarak wrote:All the weapons have been tweaked a lot.Naples39 wrote:Didn't they nerf the FAMAS in one of the patches? Take a look at the data from the link I put up a few pages back. I don't think there's ever been a shooter that had less of a spread between weapons. They've balanced it to the point where there's really no consensus anymore on what works best overall. Modifications make all the difference now.
Thanks. I bit the bullet last night (Okay, took LOTS of bullets, literally) and stuck with assault playing some with Teal and Rob. Died a lot, but FINALLY unlocked my first red dot scope as soon as the other guys left for the night. It was like a different game after that!Brando70 wrote:Got my copy Saturday. Only had time for one quick match this weekend, but boy have I missed this game. I'm downloading the 8,000 gigs of expansion packs today and can't wait to play tonight.
Web, I would recommend going Engineer or Support to start. Engineer gives you explosives to help balance out your lack of access to better guns. Support gives you an easy way to rack up points by just spamming ammo boxes, plus you get C4, which is arguably the best way to take out a tank and also defend a flag. Also useful on close maps like metro where you can clear corners with a brick of plastique.
Does anyone know how to access this? I entered the code and got the premium maps and such unlocked, but I don't know where to find this one...Naples39 wrote: Yes, though if you got the premium edition it includes some kind of online "head-start" to unlock some stuff automatically.
You have to go to the "store" from the main title screen from what I remember.webdanzer wrote:Does anyone know how to access this? I would have thought so as well, but in practice the guns really do "feel" different when I'm using them. Maybe not significantly more or less effective, but definitely different.Naples39 wrote: And if they're going to "balance" them so much to make them equal, then having them all is just needless clutter.
