If I wanted to I could snag this phone with my current ATT plan, pop in my SIM card and presto???
Yup. Pop the sim in and go. But...the problem is that you have an iPhone 5 w the nano sim and not a micro sim so you'd have to get one from AT&T when you're ready to switch. Nexus 4 and every other new phone uses micro sims.

Also you're looking at a month wait. They sold the s*** out of them today. A month for the 16gb and almost 2 months for the 8gb. I may have an 8gb to spare in two weeks when I get my 16gb version I snagged earlier today but I doubt you'll like the markup. Haha. We can work on it tho if interested. :) Philly fan bumps the price by 10% tho so you've been warned. Haha. Yes that is sarcasm.
Thanks for the info. This damn gadget 'addiction' I have needs to stop!

You can get a Nano to Micro Sim adapter for like $2.

I do not suggest that. The adapters all suck and if the sim slips out, you're F'd and you need to take your phone apart to get to it. These phones with the "trays" that pop out are sketchy at best (iPhone and N4). Happened all the time on my GNex that used a regular sim when I had a micro sim. The nano's are a bit better, but still inherent risk I'm not willing to take in a sealed phone.

Oh Db....... this is one frickin, deliciously sweet phone...

I.. LOVE... IT!

But first, I did have an issue with data speeds like some people where reporting with AT&T.

The issue was that my current Data Plan was for iPhone 4S, which is a 3G data plan.

Had to call Att, give them an EMEI from a friends GS2 so they could change my data plan to a 4G plan.

THEN, had to change to the following APN Settings:

Name: AT&T HSPA+
APN: phone
Proxy: Blank
Port: Blank
Username: blank
Password: blank
Server: blank
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: Blank
APN Type: default,supl,mms,hipri
APN protocol: IPV4/IPV6
Bearer: leave as is

-------------

BOOM!

Got up to 14mbps right off the bat at my house. My iPhone 4S max was 9mbps.

5mbps bump ain't bad.

Now it's time to install the BSE and load up some apps.

Haven't been this excited for a phone in a while.

Told ya man...awesome phone. Glad you got your APN stuff figured out. I've always been on an 4g/LTE plan, so never had to change anything.

BSE installation on the back of the Nexus 4 is a breeze compared to the iPad and iPad mini installs. Sheesh. Those things take forever and this was done in about 3 minutes. Flat surfaces rule!

I had to remove the front shield. It was interfering with the proximity sensor.

Another thing, when you're in a call, if you turn the volume all the way up, does the sound get distorted? Like the sound a busted speaker does?

What's a call? LOL...I use bluetooth for everything really. But the two or three calls I've made have been fine. I also don't turn it all the way up.

And front shields are for sissies. Always go naked on the front...let it all hang out. The back on the other hand, cover that sh*t up.

Also picked up a nice Ringke Slim case that finally arrived today. Fantastic product that I'll use when my phone might take a beating like at the gym or whatever.

It means that if you have the case on, does the screen touch the surface if you lay the phone face down.

Well the honeymoon didn't last long.

I now have no data/phone sevice on my N4.

I re-inserted the sim card and no-go.

I noticed that my APN settings had disapeared.

Anyways in the end I decided to factory reset the device and the damn thing still can't connect or detect ATT as a provider.

I popped the sim card back to my 4s and it worked w/o issues.

Now trying to reach Google by phone.

Ugh...

******Update****

Did a hard reset and was able to connect again.

Not good....

I'd talk to At&t first...make sure your data plan is correct and all that stuff.

As for the case, yes, you can lay the phone down face first since the case extends ever so slightly above the lip of the screen. Tho why on earth would you do that is beyond me...it can still be scratched if the surface you're laying it on isn't perfectly clean. Too much risk. Might be irrelevant if you can't get your sh*t to work anyway.

I blame PR.

I did.

The phone was working perfectly until late last night so it shouldn't have to do with the plan.

Anyways, Att goes only so far since the phone wasn't purchased with them.

I even had to give them another EMEI so they could change the plan to a 4G data plan the night I got the phone.

Good to know. I may purchase it.

Went ahead and ordered a replacement.

Being back on Android, you notice that even still, iOS is still a bit more polished of a OS.

Lots of quircky things since I got the device.

Hope the replacement hardware is flawless.

Windows phone keeps getting more enticing by the minute...bye bye Gmail support.

They better figure out a way to support Google's protocols or they have less than a ZERO chance of getting any marketshare.

Fellas. My contract with AT&T expired last month and I'm curious if any of you have feedback about Straight Talk. I can't help but like the idea of cutting my cell phone bill in half. Seems like it's a simple sim card switch.

I know a bunch that use it. It's essentially AT&T so nothing to lose. And yes simple sim switch and number port.

I have heard that they start to throttle data once you exceed between 1 and 2gb of data so if you're a heavy heavy user then it may not be right for you.

Also it's just HSPA so it's not on the faster LTE network but AT&T doesn't have nearly the LTE coverage Verizon does so if you're not in a coverage area it's no biggie.

But at some point you'll need to when the one you go with disappears. Say hi to all the Palm users that were stoked about their technology two years ago when the Pre was announced. Eeesh.

DB/anybody who knows...

Is there any major drawback to the Note 2 other than its mammoth size? I actually dig the bigger-than-a-phone, smaller-than-a-tablet size of it, for some reason. Looking at videos and pictures on it was pretty crazy, and the 4G in my area is fast as hell. We took a trip to Verizon yesterday and were looking at upgrades, and by the end of the day we walked out with Note 2s for myself, my wife, and mom. Sharing stuff among them with that S-beam is kind of crazy, with the motion gestures and whatnot.

But naturally, all of my coworkers and friends are all slobbering over the iPhone, and looked at me with shock and/or disgust that I'd get anything other than an iPhone. I don't do a ton of s*** on my phone, and I had no tablet, so I sort of got it to be the do-all device for me. It seems like it would fit that bill pretty well, but I have 14 days to change my mind :)
