On that note, good that I didn't put the 4S on sale ahead of time hehe.dbdynsty25 wrote:No. I don't drop my phones or worry about that stuff. I baby everything. Gotta be able to sell it to fund the next phone ya know.

Just ordered the DNA. Excited to finally be getting a new phone. Will post back after I've had a chance to get some hands on time with it.

Well...the Nexus 4 arrived and its awesome. I wish more people were able to order it because it is probably the slickest overall package for an android phone.

Would love to hear a direct comparison to the S3.dbdynsty25 wrote:Well...the Nexus 4 arrived and its awesome. I wish more people were able to order it because it is probably the slickest overall package for an android phone.

DB - Any issues with the volume as was mentioned in the cnet review?
Also, as a long time iPhone user, what might be my biggest issue of making the switch? (i like my iPhone, i'm just bored with it and would like to use a phone with a little more innovation)

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Very similar tho the N4 seems to be a bit quicker overall. This mostly has to do with the skin that Samsung and other manufacturers put on their phones. Stock Android will always be quicker and that shows up here for sure. It's not a ton faster but significant enough to notice. They really feel a lot a like especially when I had stock android on my S3 but the N4 is still a bit faster.Spooky wrote:Would love to hear a direct comparison to the S3.
Build quality is also in the N4s favor. It really feels like a high end (iPhone esque) device and its crafted beautifully. It feels great in the hands with the glass body and the soft touch edges for grip. The S3 feels cheap in comparison. Obviously eliminating the removable battery and sd card storage allows you to build a more solid phone so there are trade offs either way. Just gotta decide what is most important to you.
The last and one of the most significant differences is the width of the phone. The S3 is wider than both the N4 and the Galaxy Nexus and it makes it a bit too wide for my dainty little girl hands. The N4 is at the big side of comfortable to me so I really can't use a bigger phone comfortably. That was why I sold my S3 and continued to use my Galaxy Nexus.
Hopefully this helps Spooky. If you have any specific questions just let me know.

Sound quality and volume has been more than sufficient. No complaints there. Not sure what they are complaining about.FifaInspected wrote:DB - Any issues with the volume as was mentioned in the cnet review?

Biggest issue making the switch would be iTunes and if you have music and movies in that ecosystem. Spooky just made the switch last spring so he can probably get into the pitfalls of switching more than I could since I've been Android only from a phone standpoint for the past three years.
Android is definitely more innovative than iOS. That's not to say iOS isn't good...it is...but for phones I think android is more customizable and configurable to my everyday life and I like being able to have full control over my phone. Android just does it better.
And if you have any specific questions just let me know.

Lack of an SD card is a semi-worry because I am shooting a lot of video now with the little guy around. Battery I don't care about as long as it lasts a full day. For some reason, the onscreen buttons really bother me on the Nexus phones. I feel cheated with screen real estate.
The 2 main things I am most curious about are how the screen and the camera compares to the S3...
I am torn between either switching to the Note 2, the Nexus 4 or just staying put. I wonder how much I can Craigslist my S3 for...?

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Sold my gs3 for 450 on eBay so you can clear 4 most likely.
The screen is better on the N4 but only slightly. It uses ips rather than oled so the colors are a little more realistic and the viewing angles are better. One of the better screens I've seen. It certainly isn't worth the upgrade by itself. It is not that big of a jump to my eyes.
The camera is better on the gs3/note 2...so that is a downgrade. Again not a huge difference though the N4 is way better than my Nexus. That pic I posted on Facebook today was with the N4 on a cloudy and rainy day. It's pretty impressive given the challenging lighting but the gs3 is still better.
So all in all...you're better off sticking with your gs3 or moving laterally to the note 2.
Oh and the on screen buttons are how android is supposed to work. Makes the UI consistent. The physical or soft keys make the software inconsistent. The menu buttons for example are really a problem. Also when you watch movies and use the browser they hide.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Zero. It's a fantastic phone. Sold my galaxy nexus to a friend already.
Not a huge fan of the glass back but I ordered a Best Skin Ever to put on it so that it isn't so slick. It literally slides off of everything. It's so smooth and slick. So adding a bit of tackiness is needed in my opinion. That's my only complaint. Everything else is a step up over my favorite android phone ever the galaxy nexus.

I too ordered a BSE last week in anticipation.
Pretty sure I'm getting it BEFORE the phone.
Funny, eh? Nop!

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Sucks man...hope you get the phone soon. It's freakin' fantastic. I love nearly everything about it except for the slick as hell back side, but that will be alleviated with the BSE (still haven't gotten my shipping notice).
I just put a BSE on the back of my iPad Mini and it went on perfectly (same with my wife's)...I can't believe more people don't use skins instead of crappy cases. No bulk and still offers some scratch protection. I don't drop devices, so I'm not worried about that. Thin and Light is my preference. BSEs cover that easily...not to mention they are significantly cheaper than competing products like Armor Shield and Zaggs.

My wife and I just got the Nokia Lumia 920 phones last night, and those things are awesome. The new W8 layout is great, and Nokia really does some good stuff, app-wise. Just learning the ins and outs, but man...this is a great phone.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
My Nexus 4 has shipped!

Re: OT:Smart Phones
There is a little part of me wanting to try something new with my phone. I have the iPhone 5 and its fine but just the same old same old. The no contract, decent price thing has me a little interested in this.
If I wanted to I could snag this phone with my current ATT plan, pop in my SIM card and presto???

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Yup. Pop the sim in and go. But...the problem is that you have an iPhone 5 w the nano sim and not a micro sim so you'd have to get one from AT&T when you're ready to switch. Nexus 4 and every other new phone uses micro sims.Diablo25 wrote:There is a little part of me wanting to try something new with my phone. Also you're looking at a month wait. They sold the s*** out of them today. A month for the 16gb and almost 2 months for the 8gb. I may have an 8gb to spare in two weeks when I get my 16gb version I snagged earlier today but I doubt you'll like the markup. Haha. We can work on it tho if interested.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Db,
I've been reading that some people are having slower speeds on Att with the default APN settings on the N4.
Have you noticed this?
I currently get around 8mbps on my 4s at my house. Will hate to boot up my N4 on Thursday and experience slower speeds.

Getting the same speeds on my N4 as my GNex...so no I'm not seeing that. Even if it was an issue apn settings are easy to change.
