DSP member/alum featured in Forza Horizon video

Re: DSP member/alum featured in Forza Horizon video
Not sure what that means. You don't need to do anything except drive by the little camps. I don't know what their actual term is, but they show up as an "H" in a diamond sort of symbol on the map. The second I drive by one, it unlocks, and you can quick travel back to it for 10K credits. I've run more than 3 events at all sorts of places and haven't found any free sort of travel. But an insta-unlock version costs credits, which are plentiful.
Re: DSP member/alum featured in Forza Horizon video
so in this game, there are no tracks? You just drive around open ended worlds?
Re: DSP member/alum featured in Forza Horizon video
Damn, I wish I could have joined in last night. I don't know what the problem is with my connection, but no online game seems to work if started from the "Party" mode or whatever it is called. I was actually connected to the Party on multiple occassions, but I don't think you guys could hear me. I verified my mic was working and not muted, and I think you guys could hear about my "Golden Girls" therapy at some point. I could hear PK singing, "This is ground control to Major Don..." on more than one occassion, and I heard Terry giving Web grief for wanting to get into single player first instead of online mode. Funny stuff.., but unfortunately I could never get connected, even after resetting my cable modem, router, and 360. To be honest I have never understood exactly how the party mode is supposed to work, as opposed to just starting a multiplayer game/lobby within the game itself. I had similar issues with staying connected with F1 2011 so it must be something with my setup but it is annoying as hell. Pick up and play with randoms seems to work fine, but I have no want of that....

Have you checked your nat? You might have a conflict with one of the dsp guys in your game and that is why playing with randoms is fine. I've seen this happen multiple times.

Yep. Those roads are cordoned off for point-to-point or circuit online races. But they're not racetracks -- just mountain and high-vista roads on which you race.fsquid wrote:so in this game, there are no tracks? You just drive around open ended worlds?
Insanely fun. Best free-and-easy vibe of a racing game I've felt since Midtown Madness 3 and Project Gotham Racing 2 on the original Xbox.

So which one of you f*ckers are racing tonight? I'll be at the local bar for my weekly "Prayer Night" with friends until around midnight (ET), but I may hop on for a few races or games of Infected after that.
Maybe I can catch up with West Coasters or fellow East Coast night owls.

That's a great way to say what I was thinking while playing last night. This game is just a blast to play, looking forward to some online races with you guys in the near future.webdanzer wrote:They nailed what they were going for with a looser, party-style experience, I think, and you can tell when developers truly succeed at what they were trying to do.

Re: DSP member/alum featured in Forza Horizon video
Perhaps my favorite feature so far, and it's beyond silly: The slot-machine nature of the bonuses every time you level up by gaining XP based on your performance in online races and the PGR-like kudos you earn.
I honestly sat there in glee 10 times last night, watching the prizes spin by before the computer stopped on one each time I leveled up. And I was downright giddy when one bonus stopped on a 1967 Ford GT!
Another great feature is the ability for car club members to make their cars available to everyone in their club. And the rental cars available for those who don't have a car in a certain class or if we all want to be in the same car for an IROC-style race also is a brilliant design decision.
So. Much. Fun.

This West Coaster will be up for some races after the baseball game is over....pk500 wrote:So which one of you f*ckers are racing tonight? I'll be at the local bar for my weekly "Prayer Night" with friends until around midnight (ET), but I may hop on for a few races or games of Infected after that.

Well...gotta admit, this game is f*ckin' awesome. Great night of tag/keep away and some racing. This game is crack.
Re: DSP member/alum featured in Forza Horizon video
I've been able to spend about an hour Tuesday and Wednesday night with this game due to my work schedule, but that's all I need to ensure me that the demo wasn't misleading.... the game is FUN in a way that I didn't think racing/driving games could be fun anymore
Can't wait to get online with it, but the problem I now face is the Microsoft Speed Wheel doesn't work with my headset
Re: DSP member/alum featured in Forza Horizon video
Bastards! Every last one of you.
I have no room in my rotation for 2 open world driving games and I had my mind set on NFS:MW. Now I'm not sure what to do...

Inside the little camps themselves are a series of 3 challenges. Each one you beat adds to your discount for fast traveling there, until you beat them all, which makes that point free.TCrouch wrote:Not sure what that means. I haven't tried it yet, but if it is also true you can do the rivals challenges from Race central, I have less of a problem with the fast travel then I feared would be the case. If I ever get into scoreboard chase with this game, I'd hate to have to drive all over the map to improve times.
Re: DSP member/alum featured in Forza Horizon video
You can definitely do Rivals from Race Central. I've done it both nights on any events I've completed previously, so that's good. I'll have to check out the camp discounts, that's pretty slick.

Re: DSP member/alum featured in Forza Horizon video
I'm intrigued after seeing PK mention Midtown Madness 3 on twitter. Maybe I'll make this my third in one of the buy-two-get-one deals (haven't played Dishonored or X-Com yet).
Re: DSP member/alum featured in Forza Horizon video
These three titles combined have given me the most 'excitement about gaming' than I have had in years, and that's with Dishonored still getting the relatively short end of the stick as far as my gaming time goes.Slumberland wrote:I'm intrigued after seeing PK mention Midtown Madness 3 on twitter. Thanks for the invite PK, but I was already in another party with hockey. Looking forward to join the fun.

Using the tiny cars on that warehouse level was absolutely awesome...it was like we were cruising around in remote controlled cars.

Re: DSP member/alum featured in Forza Horizon video
What donned on me last night after I was so unceremoniously dropped from XBL and missed the last race (that I desperately wanted to run, by the way)--I don't recall much of our race events. I remember Teal killing us all with the truck, and I remember turning the wrong way down a street last night and going from 1st to 5th by the time I flipped around and got back going on the right path...
...but I have ALL SORTS of memories of the other modes. Feeling like I'm dodging a meteor shower in the little cars in Infected mode at night, laughing my ass off because I pull off things I figured would instantly spin me out and get me caught. But I get away with it, and the entire room is chasing me for 2 or 3 minutes. Not having any clue DB was behind me until I became infected. Chasing DB right on his bumper, and he makes a sweet move to the right before I can counter--and I plow headlong into a tree, losing him. Having the balls to try to cut a tight 90 degree corner short, pull the E-brake, flip 180 and stay as inside as possible to make the car coming around the corner have to decelerate so much that they miss me wide. Or narrowly missing other cars going headlong at me down a tight alley (how the hell did I do that twice?!?!). Or seeing a green name flash by to my right heading to an intersection, hit the brakes...and they go flying by thinking they were going to plow me as I came out, instead just seeing me wave as I sit there and then take off.
Or the airborne moments on the golf course. Or watching the entire field chase Teal around the map because he's the King and we're all spinning out and flipping just trying to reach him. Or missing the full 5 minute infected time by 1.5 seconds
The point of the long-winded explanation is I think Forza Horizon's strength is in the GAME that you race in--not the racing in the game. When we went back to racing at the very end of the night, I was honestly a bit disappointed, which is pretty much the exact opposite of how I feel about every driving game in history.
Love, LOVE this game.

Re: DSP member/alum featured in Forza Horizon video
In my brief time online with this game, I found King and Infected to be pretty fun. It reminded me of playing Midnight Club at PS2 lunch with my roommate. I presume that's a similar comparison as PK's with Midtown Madness.
The racing offline is pretty fun, but I have yet to learn how to deal with the bumping and grinding from other humans during online races.
