Got it coming, too. But I'm going to keep diving into this beta, and keep making notes. I like it now, quite a bit actually. That might change, might not. But one night of playing a beta won't be making my mind up...

Re: Medal of Honor: Warfighter
Okay. Definite purchase for me now. Had a few matches last night with some cats who were communicating, using the strategy the game intends, and watching each other's backs...it was a thing of beauty. The other team, who were playing like everyone seemed to be playing on the first night (COD style) were absolutely no match. It was refreshingly funny to watch. Hopefully, more people will play the beta like it was intended, and will drive the Red Bull-ers far away and into the arms of Black Ops II.
Really cool dude as a squadmate, who showed me how the two man team is supposed to work (might have been a dev, who knows), and if you stick together and actually cover each other, you have much less 'fog of war'. We took the objectives quickly, then on defense, we had a good cross section of classes, everyone took good positions (at one point, my squadmate got a sniper position inside a bombed out building, and I covered the back entrance-I took out untold numbers of knuckleheads trying to get at the sniper through that backdoor, freeing him to simply cover the target), and they never got one. Correction: they did set one bomb, but we swooped in and took them out, disarmed it, and took up positions that made it impossible for run and gunners to get anywhere near.
It was a thing of beauty. I was, even on the first night, still thinking I would buy this one no matter what, but now I'm getting it because I'm legitimately excited by the possibilities. Awesome night last night!

Re: Medal of Honor: Warfighter
Wow. Tonight's time with the beta was...absolutely frustrating. I'd like some idea of the other game modes, and a map or two that would show me that this would not be how the entire game is, because if the people I played with tonight are sticking with it...I just might not. Spastic. Camping. Chicken dancing. Nonsense. That's all I saw tonight. No teamwork, no real focus on objectives, just spawn, die, spawn, die, spawn, die. Grrrr.
I LOVED last years MOH MP. LOVED it. To be sure, I didn't love every mode. Which is why I'd love some reassurance that the MP gameplay would also include modes like that "BF lite" stuff that was in last year's game. Because if it isn't...I don't know. As much fun as I had last night, as much as I gushed about it...I'm equally as frustrated with it tonight. Gonna investigate, and hopefully get some answers on the forums from devs, or something.
UPDATE: Just went on to the Battlelog forum, and they said they also have 'hardcore' game modes, which slow the game way down, and...the "Mission" MP mode (the one that those of us who loved MOH MP last year really enjoyed the most) will also be in the final build. So I feel much better about it now. Just not a good night tonight. But glad to know they aren't leaving the more strategic-minded guys in the cold.
UPDATE 2: Just had one fantastic round again. Got in a new room, and these fellas came to play. Great, great stuff. Yeah, I sound schitzoid.

Re: Medal of Honor: Warfighter
I'm having a bit of a love/hate relationship with the beta as well Teal.
As I am leveling up and opening some new player types and weapons, I am becoming much more effective - and in turn having more fun. But, like you, some sessions are great while others remind me of why I hate the CoD series now.

How sure are you that this is the same mode as the previous games "Combat Mission" mode...? I'm not convinced. Did the blog you read detail out how the mode works?Teal wrote:and...the "Mission" MP mode (the one that those of us who loved MOH MP last year really enjoyed the most) will also be in the final build. Re: Medal of Honor: Warfighter
I finally got a chance to play this. I'm hardly an expert and there's things happening I don't understand 100%, but to me the game seems decent. No more, no less.
It is "COD-like" in that the basic cycle is spawn, kill someone, die, repeat. Using COD as a baseline however, you can't run around like a chicken with it's head cut off quite as much. The controls aren't as smooth, the snap/sticky aim isn't as strong, and the buddy system make it more of a team game. It is more strategic than COD, but that isn't saying much.
I also find the graphics to be FUGLY, and I think devs these days are overdoing it with the customization. Customization isn't going to hurt anything, but 9,000 ways to configure your character doesn't do much for me.

I don't think the graphics are bad, in fact I really like them. And, as with BF3, there will be an graphics optimization thing. I like the nature of the game myself, and don't find it to be like COD at all, really. The spawn, kill someone, die stuff is precisely what I did the first couple of times I played it, but then began sticking with my teammate, and working the system properly, and it changed dramatically.

Re: Medal of Honor: Warfighter
I've figured it out. The two man fireteam aspect is absolutely key to success in this game. With it, you can keep each other healed up, keep each other supplied, and work together via different classes to help each other out. Case in point: I became a Demolition class, which has much heavier armor, thus moves much more slowly. One aspect of the armor is a face shield that can be implemented, giving you extra protection. My teammate was arming an explosive. I moved to his back, where the enemy was coming, lowered my faceshield, and began firing. I was taken out, yes, but managed to mow down a couple of enemies, and my shielding gave my partner the extra second or two he needed to get the explosive primed. We won that round. Also, I can go in first to a firefight, with my teammate on my heels, crouch and employ the shielding, while he fires from a standing position. It essentially takes the teammate's body out of the equation, making the enemy have to either kill me, or fine tune his aim for my teammates upper torso/head. But if he does that, I'm going to mow him down. Meanwhile, he can keep me resupplied, and vice/versa.
The COD style 'lone wolf McQuade' stuff just doesn't work in this game. This has been designed for two man teams, working together, and, after being intentional about that mechanic, it shows. I've had much more success working with my partner. I also have starting digging this mode. I'll still likely play Combat Mission the most, but I like this the more I play it correctly.

Re: Medal of Honor: Warfighter
I am really, really liking this beta/demo more and more. After more time with it, I feel like it has the gameplay elements of CoD but for some reason, it feels more strategic and less chaotic. And I agree with Teal - the two man Fireteam element is a great design idea! I have yet to get into a session where it has been used as strategically as Teal has experienced, but I am excited for it's potential.
I am also able to do fairly well in my sessions and not feel nearly as frustrated as I did initially.
And knowing that the mode in the beta is just one of many others (and perhaps one of the least interesting to me) - I think I am gonna be quite happy with the game.
Does anyone know if the Fireteam concept is used across all the other MP modes (that are team oriented)?

Saw you jump in it yesterday. We need to join up on a team, and do some fireteam coop soon. Just wrapped up BL2 story so I've got some time...what about tonight around 10 central?Spooky wrote:I am really, really liking this beta/demo more and more. Got in a couple of great matches last night before the servers for the beta were shut down. I've gone from being irritated at the beta to absolutely loving it, mostly because I learned what it was trying to do, and worked with it. Found a few dudes who figured it out as well, and man oh man, was it fun. Now I've gotta wait a week...dammit....

Not that it matters but I am not buying this.
I'm done with the buy the new shooter things which doesn't ever seem to have legs around here and have too much to play right now as it is.

Re: Medal of Honor: Warfighter
I've stopped worrying about DSP legs, and have just made my decisions based upon what I enjoy. If I can get one or two DSP'ers to jump in with me, fine. But I'd never buy anything again if my criteria was whether something had legs here...lol. That's not good criteria anymore. Things change. I'm sure there'll be a few weeks of participation in Forza by a few of us, perhaps some with Most Wanted, but it's just not a realistic benchmark anymore. Doesn't mean I'm giving up on doing Poker Nights now and then, but I think the general consensus in the game world (as evidenced by the smaller 'squad' approaches and four man stuff) is that it's generally just not possible to get a full room of only friends for any length of time.Danimal wrote:Not that it matters but I am not buying this.

Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't us DSP folks play the hell out of BF3 from release date until mid December? That was damn good run of fun and a serious lack of sleep!

No, you're correct...in a sense. But it was never a full room/16 DSP player room like it used to be. We aren't going to get those any more. Just the way it is.
