Faster Than Light - picked this up off Steam for $9 and it's taken me well into the 1 AM - 2 AM range the past couple of nights.
You basically manage a space ship trying to reach the last sector without blowing up. Even on easy I haven't been able to make it to the last boss ship.
If you're curious I'd just spring for the PC version - its absolutely fantastic and just a ridiculous time waster. I'll load up a game telling myself that I'll play for 'just 5 minutes' and then an hour has gone.
It really is a fun game. I've never made it to the end, and once got wiped out on my first jump. But it's so quick to jump into you just load up and go again.
I purchased this during the Steam winter sale for a few bucks and finally fired it up. Potential for addiction very high. Even squeezed in playing through a sector before going to work today!
Just have to add that this is the first mobile game I've enjoyed as much as a full console game. It is a perfect blend of being simple to play but hard to master. The resource management is so fantastic -- you have hard decisions to make each time, but there's no micromanagement. I feel like it takes what I love about XCOM and moved it to a starship battle/space exploration arena.

I paid and downloaded it, but I just haven't had time to delve into it. It sounds fantastic.
Made it to the last sector last night in the regular version on Normal difficulty. I had a Sir Robin "That's easy!" moment before I realized there was a lot more to it than I thought. Back to the starship drawing board!

You never get comfortable in this game.
Last night I was playing on normal, 5th sector I think, kicking butt. 3 laser/beam weapons running full steam, 3 layer shield with missile defense drone. Hadn't taken a single blow in several encounters.
Of course I get ambushed by a pirate, who skips all my defenses with one of those bombs. Starts fire in my drone control room, which overwhelms the crewman I sent. I'm in a nebula and lost door control so I can't vent the ship to put out fire. Before I know it, fire is out of control and in multiple rooms. Game over.
Yes, fire and a loss of door control is a huge pain. The blast doors are a huge investment for that for me.
I realized at the end (too late) just how useful teleport can be. And that missiles become increasingly worthless later in the game if you can't quickly disable drone control.

I either immediately outnumber the enemy in a room, or retreat everyone to medbay and vent the rest of the ship. The attackers have no choice but to come to medbay and fight my now essentially invulnerable crew.
