Preseason doesn't count. Must be a regular season game, per the NHLPA.

Of course, there's a possibility we may only get updated rosters for NHL14................

There WAS a roster update today..... to add one guy. That I've never heard of. Mitch More or something?

Anyway, i have gone BACK to tuner 1.03 and it's doing alright. For whatever reason I'm seeing less of the pushing/shoving that prevents players from doing anything, and i'm getting a couple of penalties each way on default sliders, so I'm just plugging away.......

Might be the only hockey on my TV screen for a year........

Other than the lack on penalties, this game is near perfect. Fear fast, agile players, especially when playing defense. :)

There are minor annoyances though online. My HUT wins not always records, the player stats neither and there's that lag that I keep experiencing from time to time on EASHL.

So I haven't really ever put in time with HUT but I got some much this year I decided to play a few single player games. Is this what I should be doing playing SP or random HUT games against people?

Also does it warn you if someone contract is about to expire?

If I apply training card to someone is it locked on them for good?

I don't get the whole chemistry thing or some of the cards. For example I have one card that seemly changes a player to Carolina's team. I really don't understand that or the injury cards.

The new tuner set, 1.03, is delicious. A return to the fluid, yet disciplined style by the CPU in the demo. No robo-goalies. No ridiculously aggressive forechecking. I was able to dump and chase and cycle the puck on offense better with this tuner set than any other.

I lost, 4-3, in overtime as San Jose to the Rangers in OT last night with tuner 1.03. A dee-lightful game.

Chemistry is important because you want a certain line to gel, ie mix a playmaker with a sniper or a two way forward with a grinder. On D have an offensive D-man playing along a stay at home partner instead of two guys with the same characteristics on the same line.

If a contract expires, you'll see the player with a red card and he won't be able to play obviously the next match until you top him up.

Online vs have been good for me (when it records) but of course even offline this year is quite challenging.

And when you see a card with arrows to a different team, basically it's a trade that you want to make in your fantasy team like having ie Ovechkin wearing a Hawks uniform.

Well, good news is that Redshirt from EA posted a poll on OS about penalties, so we seem to finally have an "official" person trying to do something about it.

Also after reading this on OS I decided to try it out...... the hitting power sliders are reversed, so if you crank up the CPU, it's in fact YOUR team that will start laying people out and vice versa......

Having better chemistry ratings, supposedly, makes your players work better together, complete passes...etc. Chemistry ratings are based on matching player leagues, player teams, player positions and player types. For instance last night I just re-made my 4th line with 3 TWF from the same AHL team, properly filling LW, C and RW. This gave that line a 99 chemistry rating.

The whole reason for the position change and team change cards, as far as I can tell, is to improve chemistry ratings. You can stick a RW at LW at any time regardless of training cards, but to get the chemistry "bonus", you want them to be on the same "team" and trained for the position they are playing.

Earning pucks is slow, and I don't recommend playing online one-off games if that is your objective at first. There is no salary cap for such games, and I have played roughly 10 straight matches where my opponent's 3rd line is easily better than my first line (ie filled with players who auction for 10k+ pucks, whereas my most expensive player is worth ~3k). Not much "matchmaking" going on here, and getting a team that good is either done by a whole lot of grinding offline, or spending lots of real money on player packs.

Tournament play, offline and online, gives you a bonus if you win the tournament, but the trade off is the pucks multiplier granted for each game is reduced. As a result, unless you win the whole tournament, you are earning fewer pucks by playing tournaments.

The quickest way I've found to earn pucks is to play offline against downloaded human teams. I like to play on superstar difficulty, which gives a whopping 1.4x multiplier per game, and the downloaded teams I've played against weren't all that star-studded.

Practically, I usually end up playing online for the unpredictably of human opponents, even if their teams are massively better than mine and they whore the same moves over and over.

Dan, if it's anything like FIFA at all in terms of the auctions and if you received some bonus packs or high level starter packs for any reason, you may likely have one or two superstar player cards that you can auction off for mega pucks.

Rob tipped me to this last year for FIFA. I received a Wayne Rooney card in one of my bonus starter packs and reaped some 250,000 credits or something crazy that pretty much lasted me all year. I was never going to be able to buy any of the top players myself, but that lump of cash gave me lots of options to build some very fun teams.

It was tempting to keep Rooney as he is really really good, but that one sale eliminated my usual problem of fighting to scrape enough coins together to get that one contract card or that one slightly better player or whatever. If you got any bonus packs maybe you got lucky with one sugar daddy dude.

It would be nice if we could get an updated roster as the junior team rosters are not current. Noticing you are a 67's fan, some of my favorite junior players in the last couple of years have come out of that program, Tofolli, Prince, and currently Monahan and Ceci. Have you gotten a good look at Dante Salituro yet? I'm a huge juniors fan and follow it religiously.

No dice. In NHL, any card received in a free pack cannot be resold. It's been highly frustrating!!

If it's anything like previous years, it might take them another month or two to do all the CHL teams, but maybe with no NHL, they will have more time. I know the OHL season is only a week old......

I'm a 67's fan because I live here. :P But I catch some games when I can. Being from Halifax I'm also a Mooseheads fan. I figure it's two different leagues so I can get away with it!

Ya, we have had some good guys here in town in the past decade. A lot of them went to the Sharks, I can't recall the connection..... one of the scouts I beleive.

I have not seen Dante yet, but with no Sens to watch (so far) I will probably have more time to head out to a game, or at least watch on the community channel.

It's a good deal, for the price of a beer at a sens game, you can almost get a ticket for the 67's!

To keep this semi-on topic..... I switch from AS to Pro last night, and immediately noticed a big difference. I can actually score! But for whatever reason, so can the AI. On AS with the latest tuners, i was constantly getting games of 2-1, 3-2, 1-0.... first few games on Pro have doubled those scores, and just feels "better".

My last game against Tampa, I felt it when each time grabbed moemtum, and we both had stretches where we had the puck pinned down in the zone..... on AS I just didn't get that. Maybe I'm just not good enough for AS now, but from what I've read they seem to have upped the difficulties this year......

Thanks for all the advice so let me ask one more question then. How do I download other peoples teams? You mean I could download one of your guys teams and play them?

Yup. Finally this year the Sens drafted Cody Ceci, who as a bonus was not only a 67, but from Ottawa too. It will be fun to see how he develops here, depending on how the current "situation" works itself out.

Hmmm, I may have to mess around with the CHL in the game now...... I think we can still do Junior seasons, no? Or just the Memorial Cup?

I'm not sure if you can specifically download friends' teams.

I forget exactly how to navigate to it, but from HUT if you to play game, one of the options or sub-options is to play HUT offline game and the opponent is a random user's team.

The connection is Sharks GM Doug Wilson and yes you can do full season with the CHL teams, which includes league cup and memorial cup. I just started a season with the Medicine Hat Tigers last night. I don't even buy this game for the NHL connection anymore, I strictly but it and play it because of the junior teams.

Ah yes, Wilson. A bit before my team here in Ottawa, but I know some of the history. ;)

Just had a slugfest last game against Colorado, losing 6-5. For whatever reason, I"m giving up more goals on Pro then I have on AS!

I just hope these 6-5 games are a rarity and not the norm...... this isn't the 80's NHL!

I have also bumped up hitting power one click from default for both sides. It still keeps checking pretty reasonable, and as a bonus, I think it led to me drawing a roughing penalty last game. Still not enough PPs, but hopefully that can be fixed.

Played a game on Pro defaults, 8 min periods and won 5-3, it was a fantastic game, but I outshot the CPU, 31-12.

Next game, bumped it up to AS and was destroyed 4-1, was outshot, 34-30. Nashville scored in the first 1:02 and were relentless. I felt like I was one mistake from goals most of the game. :)

When you play a single game in HUT you are taken to a choose team menu like regular Play Now games. You can choose one of four teams. one is a random team from to Top 100, in is rated a little better than your team, one a little worse, and one fairly even. You can also use the triggers to switch to playing any team in any league in the game.

Your multiplier for pucks is partly based on the quality of team you play. Play one worse, and it might be .92, play one better and it might be 1.20.

Oh, and playing gets you about 100 extra pucks per game as a bonus.

I average anywhere from as few as 370 to as many as 670 pucks a game playing online. It really comes down to scoring goals, as each goal is worth 40 pucks, and each goal given up is minus 15 pucks.

The key is getting those first few gold packs and selling anything good. You can search the auction house and see what you might be able to get. But look at what is actually getting bids. There are a ton of guys that haven't figured out tht prices are way down from last year and put up ridiculous cards at ridiculous prices.

The catch this year is that they no longer sell Consumable packs. You need to get all of your contract cards from regular packs. And you have to take into account that you are using 20 games of contracts every single game. Unless you are kicking some serious butt online, you are going to end up spending a few dollars. But once you get rolling, you are probably going to be fine. But it will take some market timing to build a bankroll.
