This is the goal that is killing me against the cpu, I'd say 90-95% of the cpu goals against me have been that goal.10spro wrote:Top shelf wrister blocker side

Re: NHL 13
I've read quite a few complaints that the latest tuner, 1.02 is to blame. The majority agrees to stick with 1.01 until the next tuner updateLeebo33 wrote:When I first got the game I played around 10 Play Now games with the Penguins on default Pro with penalties maximized and 8 min periods prior to starting a season and I had a blast. Lots of variety in scores and fantastic gameplay. I know it's a small sample size, but I started a season with the Pens and all of my games so far have been low scoring with some visible robo goalie action. I am 3-3-1 averaging and conceeding about 2.0 goals a game. Most of the scores are 3-1, 2-1, etc. In fact, if it wasn't for some very late game heroics, a few overtime games, and a couple of empty netters then the scoring would be about 3.0 goals total per game. Most of the games have been 1-0 or 1-1 heading to the 3rd period. I think I am using the latest tuning set which worries me because maybe something changed for the worse. For now I will just chalk it up to a small sample size but I definitely had more fun in the Play Now games.
I hope this is just a bump in the road or a bad stretch because prior to the past few nights I thought this might be the best sports game I ever played and certainly the best hockey game.
Re: NHL 13
When exactly did 1.02 come out? I'm using it but i don't know for exactly how long. I've had quite a few games with 5 or more goals total, and that's on All-Star. I don't get how you can expect the CPU to score many goals on Pro. In the history of the franchise I've always felt that after only a short adjustment period I've been able to shut down the CPU on Pro on a consistant basis.sportdan30 wrote:I've read quite a few complaints that the latest tuner, 1.02 is to blame. Since we are talking about tuner files. Is anyone else getting a constant reminder on the home menu screen to download the latest tuner, even after they have done so?

Re: NHL 13
As much as I disagree with the "SKY IS FALLING!" crowd at OS, NHL 13 does seem to have lost a smidge of its organic feel offline for me with the 1.02 tuners. I'm returning to 1.01 and hoping for the best.sportdan30 wrote:I've read quite a few complaints that the latest tuner, 1.02 is to blame. Still enjoying the game very much, though.

Re: NHL 13
Last night I had several simply awesome games in a row. I found myself trying to figure out how to adjust my strategy and stop some good cpu players that were abusing me with their speed shift after shift. I was able to neutralize them to some extent and get back in the game. The whole experience felt so unscripted and was engrossing. In another game I lost a man to a game misconduct and also got a double minor later on in the game (both incidents were non-player controlled, so it was a bit frustrating). It was wild trying to kill a 5 min PP then a 4 min PP. I ended up giving up a goal in total on the PK, but it was just nuts trying to pack in my PK and weather the barrage of shots the cpu unleashed on me. I actually got a short-handed goal with literally .1 seconds left on the clock in the second pd. off a counter play due to a massive rebound off my goalie's pad. The variety of play among teams and players and the wide variety of the way games end up playing out is simply awesome. NHL 13 is hands-down my favorite sports game of 2012. Just about everything in the game feels right.

1. What skill level?
2. What tuner set?
3. Using any sliders?
Thanks.

1) Alternating between pro and allstar, but last night I was doing pro since I was playing with my underpowered HUT team.pk500 wrote:Very cool. 2) Latest tuner set. I'm using a previous tuner set in my GM mode though and it provides a more free-wheeling game than the latest one.
3) No slider adjustments

Curious: Everyone here using Manual shooting? Anyone using Auto?

Manual all the way. Me loves me some 5 hole.
Re: NHL 13
I think auto is better, but I'm playing 90% of my time in HUT and a GM Connected mode with guys at GWJ. No auto aim in those modes, even when you are playing solo.pk500 wrote:Curious: Everyone here using Manual shooting? Anyone using Auto?
I think auto-aim is way better overall. It provides a better variety of goals than what most of us normally do and try to snipe the upper corners repeatedly. It puts the focus back on positioning and strategy, as well as getting your player under control.

Re: NHL 13
Tuner Set 1.01 and Auto shooting are the offline sweet spot for me right now. Realism, balanced play and great variety of outcomes.
This is probably just the placebo effect, but Tuner 1.02 feels like a return to NHL 12 for me. CPU gets two to three times more shots due to incredibly aggressive offensive strategies, and goalies make too many ridiculous saves.

What are these 'tuner sets'? Is that something I've missed in the game settings? And does the game default to manual or auto shooting on default 'Pro'? ('cause that's what I've been playing)

Re: NHL 13
I am pleased to report that my three games last night back at tuner set 1.01 were highly enjoyable. I won all three 6-3, 5-3, and 4-1 but they were all closer than the scores indicate. The great thing about my previous run of Play Now games was that just when I thought it was too easy I would lose a couple in a row and was actually totally dominated by Detroit in one game. It will be interesting to see if that type of variety continues in Season Mode.
I use Manual Shooting and I'm finding it easier to pick spots with 1.01 than with 1.02.

Am REALLY enjoying this game both online and off.
I really do wish however that they had the "online friendlies" mode that they had in Fifa 12.

Ok...I haven't really played an NHL game since NHL '94 in college with my roommates. How hard would this game be for someone who doesn't know much about hockey, only watches a little on tv during the playoffs, and attends 1 Syracuse Crunch game a year?
Thanks.
Rick
Thanks.

Re: NHL 13
Not hard at all. Of course the controls have changed since but for guys like you, there's an option always go back to the classic controls in order to control your player. You may miss a few features on default but if it's been that long, your jaw will just drop at the visuals and since we may not have any real hockey on TV, this is the next best thing.icvu42 wrote:Ok...I haven't really played an NHL game since NHL '94 in college with my roommates. Just buy it... you won't regret it.
It's gorgeous. Despite being a difficult camera angle to play on, true broadcast is amazing to look at and very rewarding (would work great with NHL 94 controls.

Re: NHL 13
Tuner sets can be selected in Game Settings. Set 1.01 feels looser, more organic and a hell of a lot more fun to me than 1.02, which seemingly has returned many of the characteristics that I didn't like about the AI in NHL 12. Could be a placebo, but my perceptions stand!Spooky wrote:What are these 'tuner sets'? Is that something I've missed in the game settings? The game defaults to manual shooting. There is no global shooting option that can be saved, unfortunately. So you need to enter Gameplay Settings before every game and switch shooting to auto if you want to use it.
Fair warning: I think very few -- if any -- online modes allow auto shooting. EA has a hard-on for manual shooting.
