Re: PES 2013
Gotta play this a bit more. I'm just not feeling it quite yet. I guess I just have to get used to the controls, but it doesn't feel as responsive. Plus, the controls are a bit confusing to a novice. The players run around like robots compared to the smooth animations like Fifa. Not to mention the one game I did play, I didn't see a whole lot of planning by the CPU. They were just as agressive as in Fifa in taking it down the pitch. Where there was a big difference was the midfield battle. That was great to see.

Re: PES 2013
Played again this evening and had a "what the heck was I thinking" moment?!?!?! This game is absolutely sublime. I honestly must have been out of my mind last night when I played. Now granted, I was quite sleepy and just going through the motions. Tonight, I compared the two soccer games equally, and there is no question which is the better game overall. Especially for offline play. It's not even close. It's amazing how real the game felt. I played two games. Each opponent felt a little different which was great to see! I used Barcelona against a team by the initials of FCB (very weak rated overall) and I dominated with possession, which is what should happen. When my opponent had the ball, they were more careless and less adepth at setting up a good shot. I won't go in to comparing the two in great depth, but the teams I played against in Fifa played exactly the same. Now, I see where the boredom can quickly set in.
So, here's a question. I don't understand the lack of licenses I read about regarding PES has. What does that mean exactly?

Re: PES 2013
Basically think Backbreaker or All-Pro Football versus Madden. EA Sports holds the exclusive licenses for the English league. Germany I don't know what's going on there. Spain, Italy, France are in. I'm not sure about Holland. They do not have any of the lower leagues like Austria or Ireland. And they have S. American teams but again that's like playing an Irish team for me at least.sportdan30 wrote:Played again this evening and had a "what the heck was I thinking" moment?!?!?! Re: PES 2013
That's not a good example because Backbreaker and All-Pro have zero licenses. At least PES has quite a few of the divisions/leagues just not the Premiership, which is what most people want. Thats why it gets a bad rap. The mod community is in full effect in PES tho...so shortly after release, even the 360 version will get updates w/ the correct teams/kits/etc. Not quite as pretty and easy to do as the PC version, but still effective.JRod wrote:Basically think Backbreaker or All-Pro Football versus Madden. Re: PES 2013
You'll basically see a lot of generic names since PES doesn't have the license that EA has for most Fifa teams with real names and leagues. But they do have it for some other leagues as the Copa Libertadores which I dig.
Not a biggie if you don't quite know the who is who in footy as there are option files that correct that lack of licensing from Konami, and you can simply apply it to your console of choice. PC'ers usually are in heaven when it comes to the variety of files and patches that you can apply to the game.

Re: PES 2013
I think PES still has the complete Champions League license, which is clutch.
Glad you're digging PES 2013, Dan. It's so superior as a single-player game that PES can't even see FIFA in its rear-view mirror.

Re: PES 2013
FIFA is good and more for the beginner or casual soccer gamer. PES is hardcore but a good challenge for someone who's played FIFA before and wants someone more out of offline play. Best analogy I've heard between both games is that FIFA is like Madden where PES is like Football 2K.
PES will have all the real players out of the box and some of the real teams in Europe. But the PES community is pretty good and you should be able to download an option file with all the real teams and kits on or little after release day.
If you're online only, then go with FIFA. Last year in PES it took me a while just to find the online play menu.

Alright, we as someone who's been playing the game since you had to import it's accurate.dbdynsty25 wrote:That's not a good example because Backbreaker and All-Pro have zero licenses. I laid out who is in and not.
Modding it is not as easy as it sounds. Getting updated names is simple enough. If you want to mod it to get logos and kits on the 360/PS3 that takes some work. Best route to go if you want all the real players and teams is to get the PC version.
Otherwise, just having the naming file is good enough.
The Champion's League isn't that great because some of the teams may be missing. They were in the past. Plus while the mode is in there, it's never really been utilized that well.
FIFA kills PES in terms of leagues people really want. No one really wants the Copa Libradores. No one. The big five, Champions League, International Licenses are what people want. It's always been that way and FIFA knows it. It gets a bad wrap because Konami really can't do more with less. And they never really use the community the way they should.
I think that Konami should have more generated leagues and countries because if the football universe could be filled out randomly and then by the community. The community would create a better file.
Re: PES 2013
Bite your tongue my friend, tell that to any footy player south of Canada and you will not come out alive.JRod wrote:FIFA kills PES in terms of leagues people really want. It's like telling the rest of the world no one really cares about the MLS, and while partly true, there's a large number of followers in the NA league and growing.

Re: PES 2013
Are you implying that you're the only one who every imported the game from the UK back in the day? If so, well, you're wrong as my collection of PES and Winning Eleven games will attest to. Embarrassingly, my first game was only PES 3 in 2003 on the PC (of course imported since it wasn't available here), so clearly, I don't know what I'm talking about.JRod wrote:Alright, we as someone who's been playing the game since you had to import it's accurate.

And you didn't lay out anything. You just said that it's like Backbreaker, which it's clearly not if it has even ONE real team. Settle the F down and stop taking offense to everything anyone says contrary to you, jesus.

Re: PES 2013
Thanks for the info guys.
I'll be just fine with a file that has the names corrected. I'd love to get to learn who all the star players are and their tendencies. It was quite fun controlling Messi and Inesta in my demo play. I could certainly tell they were more skilled than others. I don't necessarily care at this point about the kits and logos, etc. That might change as I get deeper and deeper involved with the game of soccer.
I'm rather surprised though that this game isn't retailing for $10 less than Fifa 13. When you don't have the full licenses and you're regarded as that "other soccer" game on the market, one would think Konami would be more competitive with their price. Now, I know I could probably have found a pre-order priced for less or wait a few weeks, and find it for 10-15 dollars off. Just can't wait though!
How much is this game on my mind? I actually dreamt about the gameplay in rather quick snipets last night.

I hear you. I've been obsessively watching videos of both games on YouTube!
Re: PES 2013
It isn't? That's a shame. If I'm not mis-remembering, I'm pretty sure every release of PES this gen has been priced at $50 new. This would be an unfortunate shift, but not a deal breaker by any stretch.sportdan30 wrote:

Re: PES 2013
I'll go PC unless there is an easy way to get logos and names in teh 360 version.

Well, Amazon gives you a $10 gift card for pre-orders so essentially it is. I'll probably go that route and order from there.Zeppo wrote:It isn't? That's a shame. Re: PES 2013
With PES and NHL 13, I'm not sure when I'm going to get some NCAA/Madden time in.

Re: PES 2013
I do like the PES demo quite a bit. That said, I'm finding that every game plays out the same way, with me able to possess the ball for about 67-70% of the time. The AI just isn't very good defensively. I do appreciate the way the game plays out once you get in the box, though, as it is much easier to get space and take shots than in FIFA, where you tend to just get dispossessed unless you've made a breakaway.
Re: PES 2013
I've played PES the last few years but I think I'm going to get FIFA 13 this year. I don't want or need hardcore soccer anymore and some good old run and gun arcade soccer with full licenses sounds like fun to me.

BB - the teams for non licensed teams are just faked names.
APF - real players although their name is changed.
Re: PES 2013
No one cares about the MLS. I know their are fans but come on they know the MLS is an inferior product. Copa Libradores is an inferior product because all the best SA players are playing in Europe.10spro wrote:Bite your tongue my friend, tell that to any footy player south of Canada and you will not come out alive.JRod wrote:FIFA kills PES in terms of leagues people really want. Personally I'll be getting both games and will be playing Boca Juniors to death at the Libertadores.

It's hyperbole but still I think most everybody cares about having the big guys in there.
I still think Konami has always been afraid to let the community turn this game in something special. If they had open countries slots with fake teams and players. Maybe just city names. For example, in scotland Edinburgh Red (Hearts) and let us add the names. Even randomly generated fake sub leagues would be better. There would be guys that would mod the entire game.
I think Konami either because of it's lawyers fearing lawsuits or lack of vision doesn't understand this about their customers. It's a shame because they have a community that would make every league on earth.

You're kidding, right? The PES 2013 demo has midfield play and back passing, two things I still haven't seen in the FIFA 13 demo.seanmac31 wrote:That would be a mistake then. Re: PES 2013
I don't see much midfield play in PES for the simple reason that the AI never has the ball. I have yet to play a game where I hold less than 67% possession, and usually it's above 70%. But PES strikes me as the more offensive game because it is much easier to score, particularly in the box, where your players will seal off defenders, leaving themselves open for easy passes and short range shots. Anyway, I should hasten to say that my comment applies to single player, which I don't do much of. For multiplayer gaming, you're just looking at the game engine, and both games are excellent in that regard.pk500 wrote:You're kidding, right? I dont understand what you're talking about. the PES community does turn the game into something special yearly. You won't get all the real teams out of the box, but the community will make all the teams in the world even the really small leagues every year. go to pesgaming.com forums and you'll find any league and team out there to use. You'll see the mod the s*** out of the game yearly.

In FIFA, at least for me, it's easy to score and in PES, scoring is hard and feels rewarding once I do get one thru.
