Agree 100 percent. A tactical game in close confines is not as much fun.
I can't think of a more tactical game than the good ol' Splinter Cell MP, especially the final iteration in the 360 game SC:DA, and that game was set entirely in some pretty small, closed in spaces. That said, the player limit of 3 vs 3 meant the relatively small maps were impossible to keep covered from one end to the other, a central element of the excellent, asymmetrical gameplay. But the core of the game was essentially tactical on both sides of the contest, and yet it wasn't at all about huge spaces and slow movement.

I think it depends more on the mechanics of the gameplay than just the size of the maps, but yeah, it's hard to feel like there's much room for tactical decision making when your are right on top of your enemies as soon as you spawn in.

You're gonna love knowing that Spies v Mercs is coming back to the new Splinter Cell, then, Zepp... :D

This sounds very promising for MP: some tactical modes...

There will be an XBL MP beta for this game in "early October."

It will be nice to try it out before release.

None of the links have been specific, but it sounds to me like an open beta.

Um, I know it might come as a shock to some of you, but I'm really digging this beta. It has some beta warts, but the overall package? I like it very much. Not enough 'sugary candy' in it to pull the Red Bull 13 year olds away from COD, which is a good thing. Pace is noticeably slower than COD, as is the feel. It's like a smaller version of Battlefield, in a way, and that's a good thing.

One night in, and I'm glad I preordered it.

I'm on the fence. Demo map is really cool. Tight confines, but plenty of spots to hide and skitter around the edges. Like the weapon and the aiming mechanism. All of the controls are smooth, too.

But there's still quite a bit of running, gunning and Halo hops going on. Gameplay still is pretty frantic, with little teamwork evident.

Cool demo, but I'm starting to wonder if there ever will be another military shooter released that rewards patient teamwork and stealth, like the old GR games or Operation Flashpoint: Red River.

I'm just not sure if I want to drop $60 on a game that's going to piss me off quickly because a bunch of trigger-happy, Mountain Dew-fueled punks have quicker reflexes than me. I don't want to have rely on finding a server that's filled with strategic players because that's more rare than hearing honesty in a presidential debate.

Well...my experience was after about 45 minutes in I almost canceled my pre-order.

Maybe I was just tired or something but first off...is it just me or is there WAY too much going on over the screen??? The menus, the HUD, etc.... It's quite overwhelming. MY K/D ration was averaging about 1 kill per 15-20 deaths.

Game seems way too faced paced and way too advantageous for the CoD freaks of nature. I kept spawning into guys from the opposite team raining down missiles from helicopters and sh*t. There was one point where I think I may have gone 5 minutes without lasting 3 seconds or more before dying.

Looks like another game of a sh*t ton of leveling up to open WAY too many weapons options and combos. These games give me a serious case of decision paralysis with all the goddam customizations and tinkering. Ugh.

I'm with you, Spook.

At first, the chaos was exciting. Tons of noise, sound and activity. It was like walking into the slot machine area of a casino. You're titillated by the lights and sounds, and you pop $5 worth of quarters into a machine. And then you wake up and realize: "F*ck, these machines are the biggest thieves in the house, by odds. Why am I doing this?"

I'm hoping the multiplayer for Assassin's Creed III provides the stealth and strategy I seek. MOH: Warfighter isn't that kind of game, sadly.

Maybe there will be some larger maps in the retail game of MoH that breed more tactics. The maps are a conundrum. Lots of cool places to hide and use stealth, but no one bothered with those strategies last night in the demo matches I played. It was UNLV basketball, circa 1991 -- run and gun.

The last version of this game was actually pretty incredible. Their take on the BF "rush" style mode was one of my favorite shooter MP games ever. Maybe it's in there somewhere as part of the full version of the new game, but I'm not optimistic.

I know the beta is one mode, one map, but I sure hope there is something similar to the large scale, ebb and flow battles of the last version.

Oh - on a positive note - the graphics of the beta are pretty freakin' amazing. Very good looking game and the map is really neat.

I was thinking that they are going to leak out a new mode or two during the beta. That being said, it's nowhere near as hyperactive as COD. Nowhere near. Yes, there were some punks on there last night, but it's a public beta, and it's free. I don't expect those caffiene addled kids to stay there for long, because Black Ops is just a couple weeks from this one.

I played some more, and I still think this one is really good. Is it GR or OFP? Nope. But it ain't COD, either. I liked, very much, their take on MP in the last game, too. I think this one has the potential to be just as good as that one. This is one map, one mode, and everyone's getting their bearings. The Battlefield beta was a mess at times too, because EVERYONE was playing it. We'll see.

I really liked last years MOH and I thought the beta was awful. Felt like a poor mans version of COD.

Maybe the singleplayer will be worth a look once it hits the discount rack.

I didn't hate the beta but I just dont think I'm feeling this one. I'm leaning towards not getting it. I will be getting my first AC3 at the end of the month. I've never played any of the games in the series but one of my students has me jacked for it because of the Revolutionary War theme, etc. I did t realize there was a MP mode in it. Anyways, I may be passing on MoH WF.
