My guess is that the physics engine will mostly result in Backbreakerish glitch videos.

NHL 13 will be Day 1, too.
I don't think it will be Backbreakerish at all. I think it's more like NHL 2013 where they can call they a true physics engine but in reality it's just having more momentum and animations.

I'm not optimistic with the physics engine because after watching the videos they didn't show ONE gang tackle of more than 3 tacklers. Also it wasn't as dynamic as BB. The videos did not not BB'ish at all which is a good or bad thing depending on your point of view.

However, I am excited about the connected careers. If you can jump around players and coaches in a league that would add a lot of replayability. Now EA could just be hyping this up and the teams all play the same and then it would get old really really quick.

Have to say the connected careers could be a shot in the arm to the boring Madden career mode.

I don't know how often you see more than 3 guys tackling someone, but that doesn't worry ME at all. The only time that happens is if a guy gets stood up in the hole and a bunch of guys just grab on, but it's not like it's going to ruin a game or anything. 3 guys is plenty as far as I'm concerned. That's the least of my worries with a new physics engine.

Well hopefully this new engine has worked out most of the bugs. Considering it's been in FIFA and NHL. My understanding is this is more then just on tackles and contact that the physics is game wide. What that means for game play I guess we'll find out when the masses get their hands on it starting later today.

I had a check list of 3 things and they all seem to be in the game.

1. No more physic LB's and DB's. From what I ma told this no longer exists.
2. Ability to put touch on passes. Again seems like this is no in the game.
3. An Online franchise that works like offline. This is in the game.

That's enough for my money this year and I am sure for the other 5 guys still playing in the Madden 12 OF.

Gang tackling and swarming is pretty huge. They showed a lot of tackles where one or two defenders were interacting with the player. It was pretty staged as far as videos go, which could mean the tackling engine isn't really built to have more than a few players in the tackle. It would be cool if every player could involved could impact the tackle. We'll see.

to be fair they're not done with the final build, but if this is close, I'll keep 12.

The new announcing team is worse than ever. When you start that video, Nantz just killed any anticipation I had viewing this video. On the Ginn Kickoff return, the announcers don't even say a word. They sound slow and robotic. I thought I'd never say this but I'd rather have Gus and Chris back, or even the radio guy.

And this new physics engine may need some tweaking. The ball coming out of Alex Smith's hand in that replay looks really awkward. I can see why they are pimping Connect Career, because the on the field gameplay may be off. it is their first year with this new engine if that's what they're calling it so I will anticipate some bugs.

If you're into the offline stuff, I'm sure CC will be great, but for me, it's just another bunch of menus and modes I'll never use. That fake twitter feed they are selling as the next best thing is really lame for someone like me who doesn't even care about that stuff. I just like playing the game, not really into the offline franchise stuff.

I read somewhere where they said Madden 13 is just full of all gimmicks they are hyping as the next best thing because all the real work is going into the next gen systems coming out next year. I don't know if that's accurate or not, but I'm not really buying M13 as the next best thing ever. I've seen this too many times from EA.

But I'll eventually still buy the game, I know I will. I just hope they clean up a lot of things in this build they displayed and everything comes together better.

Commentary is the most overrated aspect of sports games, and I thought it was better than the Gus Johnson trainwreck.

I agree that this looked pretty similar to 12. I was trying to see if the defensive back interactions were different but couldn't tell. Didn't like the look of either of those interceptions, especially the old wounded duck pick that the Seahawks returned for a TD.

My buying decision will come down almost solely to connected careers.

Mine will come solely down to the fact that I've bought it ever year since 1990 and I can't break tradition. Wait a second...wasn't there a year or two in the Dreamcast days that there wasn't even a PS2 version? I thought they scrapped one version or year. Maybe it hasn't been EVERY year. :)

Yeah I didn't like FIFA 12 as much as some of its predecessors too.

People have been asking for physics for years to see if it would address a lot of the long term issues. But coming at the end of a generation, maybe expectations aren't too high.

Gameplay and physics in that video looked identical to Madden 12.

Call me underwhelmed.

There are physics and there are EA's Physics they are not the same so why do they bother with it?

Madden 96 got scrapped for the PSX. It was available at the launch of the PS2. I remember playing 96 for the Genesis, though (typing that makes me feel really damn old).

I had been on the every-year plan from Madden 99-Madden 10, skipped 11, and bought 12. The DSP online franchise is a hell of a lot of fun, and if connected careers works the way it should, Madden 13 would be worth it for me on that alone.

If only someone could make a Show-quality NFL game. I might never leave the basement if that happens.

Yep, that was me until last year, when I didn't buy it for the 1st time. And this video really doesn't do it for me either.

I think it was quite good last year. It's one of those games that didn't shine until you started playing it. The run blocking was really improved and made plays like draws and reverses effective if called at the right time.

The problem was that off the field, it was a mess. The commentary was horrendous, there were stat issues in franchise, and the game still doesn't reflect the realities of the modern NFL (like committee backfields or running the 3-4 properly). The AI was stronger but still quite generic. Franchise was also really bland -- aside from the difficult but completely unrealistic free agency interface, it was the same old bland offseason that pales in comparison to something like Front Office Football 2007 or even Head Coach.

I would suggest holding off to the demo.

I've been told from someone I trust (i.e. not a game changer) that the game plays totally differently and that the CC is an insane change to franchise mode.

I just placed a preorder with Amazon. I can always cancel.
