I played for about 45 mins before our poker night, and was completely befuddled running into walls and whatnot. It wasn't until we played siege and slowed everything way down that things clicked, mainly running cover to cover

The reality is that most of my time will be spent online with randoms, so I'll have to give that a shot tonight now that I have some idea what I'm doing.

Using the auto advance to next cover feature forces you to be tactical because you're slowly, methodically moving on the map instead of mimicking Usain Bolt drafted into the Jamaican Army, sprinting full tilt while dodging bullets, as so many people do in BF3 and MW3. Sure, you can go Johnny Rambo if you want, but you're going to die sooner that way.

What a game.
Can't add anything to this but one thing: I cannot WAIT to have you do Guerilla mode with us soon. I keep thinking about GR2 and the onslaught of North Korean f*ckers, crap going off everywhere, and you screaming at the top of your lungs. I think this mode will bring back that ol' magic...

Completely agree with these assessments. These are the things that make this game more approachable for me (and I think for DSP's style in general).

The maps size was a bit of a letdown for me when the beta came out and now I can't imagine them being any larger. Especially since the max team size is 6v6 (which now I think was a brilliant design choice). Could you imagine trying to hunt Teal down while he's flying his %$*&%@!$ UAV on a map the size of the original GR games?!?! lol

And I can't say enough about the cover system in this game either. It is truly the differentiator between this and all other MP shooters.

Since all weapons and mods are available in private matches, my suggestion to the group (especially newcomers) is to spend 15-20 minutes going into the 'character customization' section (make sure you've started a private match lobby so you're making edits to the private match loadouts and not the regular MP loadouts) and get to know the interface. Create some loadouts and test them on the firing range then you'll have a greater sense of what to bring and when - or at least have some foundational loadouts ready to go for each class.

One of my "to do's" for today is to Google or YouTube the best ways to counter a UAV in this game. :wink:

Had a great time last night. The only thing I'd like to see them add would be to randomize which team starts on defense for siege. Seems like the old GR series allowed that, but last night the Ghost where always on defense first. Also, if I remember that far back, didn't the old GR games allow your to randomly set the teams themselves each match? Seems like I recall not knowing the team makeup until after the game launched.

I had fun last night but I think it was more fun for the team dominating every match so those of you who don't have it keep in mind PK was on that team :)

I wish you could set conditions on settings to eliminate uav's and the tri-pod. I don't dislike those things or the nature / setting of the game but I miss those good old fashion gun fights from the old GR games.

I'd still play Guerrilla mode over versus everyday of the week plus Sunday if I had a choice.

I am the exact opposite. I'd choose adversarial type MP matches 90% of the time. While I think Guerilla Mode is a nice add on, I really think it is kind of an afterthought and gets old pretty quickly. It's not that I can't have fun with it or see how others enjoy it, I just feel like it gets a tiny bit too repetitive and predictable.

Even the Co-Op campaign stuff in games (GoW, this game, etc...) - I get REALLY excited when I see that it's a feature and then when i play it with others I don't ever get as into it as the true MP modes. I guess it has something to do with playing against AI versus playing against real people. My brain just knows there is a difference and I can't get as much satisfaction when I win against or kill AI enemies.

To each their own. The co-op missions in Arma, the original Operation flash point. The 16 player co-op in GRAW and I can't forget the great OFP Red River are some of the most fun I've had gaming. Sure it's AI and sure it's get repetitive but there always seems to be a lot more team work involved then when we get in a game of versus, even with private rooms.

I enjoy versus as much as the next guy even when I am getting my ass kicked. I just like the team work aspect of co-op and in my experience the team work is always better.

I think the sentry gun is the best counter, but there are a few maps where it's hard to get a good LOS. It seems to take that thing out pretty fast when it gets a good look at it, though.

Very good point. I killed someone within the first minute of playing last night, and it wasn't luck. This game had me at hello. :)

The final product is SO much better than the beta -- graphics, controls, gameplay, everything.

Per rogue's comments above: I've heard there are less options in regards to being able to customize private matches. The old GR did allow random teams which was pretty cool. I'll take a look at the options and see what might be buried in there.

As for UAV's and other gadgets. I think on nights when the group plays we consider playing a few rounds using nothing but guns. No sensors, no UAV, no sentry gun etc... I'm not against these things, but as someone indicated in this thread, the idea of playing without certainly would lead to some old school gun on gun / strategy driven battles.
