I played so much better at Bethpage vs. the weekly at Pebble Beach. I started out with a +8 and then on Round 2, I was -4 through 9 and thinking I was on my way to my first ever weekly sub par score. Then it all fell apart for the rest of that round and then an absolutley horrible Round 3. It was almost all due to my short game, particularly chipping. I spent so much time in the sand at Pebble Beach it was ridiculous. All I can ever do in chipping is either barely hit it a foot or so, or sail it over the green into the bunker on the other side. I am pretty much now to the point where if it is at all possible, I putt no matter what, as opposed to chipping. Any advice on how to correct this? I have spent time at the practice facitlity and just can't figure out what to do differently. It always seems to be a case of too little or too much. Fortunately I had a half way decent round at the Augusta Daily to get rid of the bad taste of sand at Pebble Beach.
PS - Why can't we have this kind of a scorecard to view per gamer, per round? It would be cool to have a web based view of our stats similar to what the PGA Tour has (see link below). The game appears to actually track all of this info, it seems it is just a matter of presentation.
Are you checking where the aim is on the ball when you are in the bunker? I always move the cursor down to almost the bottom of the ball and usually never have problems in the sand, getting out of the sand is probably the strongest part of my game.

Yes, if I do what you describe I have no problem gettting it out of the sand, it just seems to sail over the green to the other side. I would say the most trouble I have in chipping though is from the fringe of the green.
Your GIRs in round 4 was better than mine! Let me suggest something for pitching that I do, particularly when pitching from the second cut. I adjust to about 90% loft, put the strike meter cursor just below the midpoint of the ball and take a real slow backswing. The length of the backswing is always shorter than what I would envision myself doing in real life. I then take a pretty fast downswing through the ball. This makes up for my shorter backswing and helps make good contact.
The practice facility is not a good place to try this out for me. I don't like the viewing angle they force you to use and you don't get as much feedback about the shot. Just select a play now round and enable mulligans, that's where I developed my feel for this and it was worthwhile.

Well, the dadgum hazard placement reared its ugly head on me in the daily this morning. I was -13 going into the 17th hole, just one shot back of wilk. I hit my tee shot on the fringe a few yards past the water and got moved all the back. Being stubborn I tried again and landed in just about the same spot and was moved back once again. Ended up with a double bogey when I should have had an easy chip for a possible birdie or at least a par. I birdied the last hole and finished at -12.
Nice rounds guys!

-3 first round of the weekly if I could eliminate the 1 or 2 holes I double bogey a round I would shoot in the -7 to -10 range.
I've never played Oakmont before this round and I have to say I love this layout. What a shot makers course. If you try and bomb it you can get in trouble. Be interesting to see the scores put up here because I think the guys with 90+ powers are going to have to reel it in a little.

Yes, I did have to lay up a bit after going for broke in the first couple of rounds. Just the very first hole in all my rounds I had the chance for birdie and ended up par because I overhit the approach. I finished the weekly last night as I have to head out to the airport in a couple of hours and ended -10 for the tourney. I also like the course very much. Good luck to you all.
BTW, has the standings been updated from the last weekly yet?
I thought we might wind up with some low scores at Kiawah. I set it up with Blue tees just for a change of pace. I had 10 birdies and an eagle, unfortunately, I also had 3 bogeys. I took the 64 degree wedge I'd put in my bag to handle the 80 - 100 yard approaches. I was leaving those approaches shorter than the stance adjusted 60 degree wedge. Divot's -15 looks pretty good right now, but there's still time to post a score.

Another reason for the low scoring is the lack of wind. Setting the wind to Calm is automatically going to take the teeth out of any course. I would love to see more Breezy settings with wind gusts enabled just to give more challenge to the scoring. And no more Blue tees please....that also takes the teeth out of many courses, especially with the lack of wind.
I played the Daily this AM with the intent of just making it close to the Top 5 as I have been playing very poorly since my two weeks overseas did not allow for me to play at all. Started out birdie/eagle and made the turn at -8. Bogeyed the 10th with a horrendous 3-putt, then birdied every hole moving forward. I still do not know how I managed such a score with 50% FIR, but I did manage to hit a few from the rough really close and made a couple of 30'+ putts for birdie which did not hurt. Congrats to everyone who played in this tournament....Oakmont should be interesting in the Weekly....
John, you probably have all the dailies set up for this week. But just to have a good laugh for day, I would be interested in playing one daily where we have no grids on, and no caddie either with an easy or medium flag placement. Would like to see those scores.

f***in XBox Live.....just posted a -9 in round 1 at Oakmont and XBL disconnected as I went to post the score. It did not connect when I tried to re-connect and now my score is not posted as well as I have one less round to play with in the event of a disconnection....online gaming can really SUCK at times. I took photos of the scorecard, but that is irrelevant....

Hmmm... I had it set to Live Weather with wind gusts enabled. I know when I played, I saw winds of 6 to 14 MPH, with gusts varying as much as 5 MPH on a hole. I guess when you played it early in the AM, the winds had calmed. I like Live Weather because it takes the cookie-cutter feel out of the conditions for a change. I'd like to read the thoughts of others on Live Weather; maybe we need to take a different tack on it?

Done... I've seen enough of then also. I thought it might change up the strategy a little bit, but these courses are really designed to challenge developed CAG's from the black tees.

I haven't got any more set and was just about to do that now. I'll do that today just to see what happens. I'll have a coin ready to decide the break on those that I can't read left or right, which are more than I'd care to admit

I feel your pain... I suffered two consecutive freezes during the next hole loading screen on the back nine of the last two Tournament (Ace) Dailies. I was scoring well in both of them Dan had the weekly set for three tries last week. I haven't checked to see what it is this week, but the way things are going, three is probably a good insurance policy.

This was what I was trying to tell you guys a few weeks ago and people told me Live weather worked fine. I played all my Augusta rounds with 0 mph wind and they were all played between midnight and 2am.

I've always been aware that Live Weather means there are going to be better times of the day in which to play your round. I've never worried about placing myself at a disadvantage by perhaps playing it at the wrong time of day. Sometimes I don't have a choice as to when I play it. Other times I've intentionally delayed my round start until later in the night or early in the morning when I knew conditions would be more tame. It's not an issue to me, but if it is for others, I have no objection to at least mixing Live Weather with fixed.
I think what Divot may have seen was the opening condition report where it shows "Calm" even when you've got "Live Weather" enabled. The Calm is sort of a placeholder, but the Live Weather supercedes it. The Live conditions apparently were calm when he played his round.
I set today's Daily at Sunny/Windy/Gusts enabled/No Grid/Caddy off, with Medium-1 pin settings, long rough, and fast greens at Scottdale. Let the carnage begin

I've weighed in on this before, but I don't like live weather when all of us are playing at different times of the day due to our schedules. We should all be playing the tournament rounds in the same conditions.

I never saw wind above 3-5 MPH in my round played at 7AM CDT today....

Just replayed round 1 and got the same score of -9, so nothing lost. Sorry for the rant, but I hate wasting 30 minutes of my time on a round that doesn't count for anything....

I remember your taking this position a few weeks back and I appreciate your reaffirming it here. I'll go with the majority on this because I don't have a firm position. The only think I don't like about fixed weather conditions is that the wind usually seems to be overwhelming in anything above "Breezy" conditions. Windy usually means high teens to mid 20's, in my experience. If Breezy was 6 - 11 MPH, Windy 12 - 19 MPH, and Gale Force 20 MPH+, it would seem more reasonable.
Let's get some more input on this; I'd like to find a good balance.
