FIFA 2004 ???

I miss my PS2. we6: fe was so awesome. anyway, i was wondering if anyone can figure out if the FIFA 2004 edition will have a franchise mode similar to WE. The "previews" are a bit sketchy.

i thought it was unclear has to how in-depth the "franchise" mode will be. i hope it rivals WE6, but i doubt it will.

 Judging by the evasive answers of the EA producer at Operation Sports -- come on, the guy knows he has an inferior product to WE6 -- there appears to be a franchise mode including lower divisions.
 
 But as I said in a post at OS, if the gameplay blows -- which is almost a certainty with the FIFA series -- I don´t care if I can start grooming kids in the youth team at age 11 with a franchise mode.
 
 FIFA is so far behind WE6 that I doubt it will ever catch up. And I don´t think that EA Sports really cares. FIFA still makes cash registers ching-ching, and that´s all that EA cares about outside of its football franchises. Quality, realistic gameplay continues to take a back seat.
 
 Normally, I wouldn´t care as other companies make a better Xbox alternative to an EA Sports game in almost every sport. But since FIFA is the only current soccer game available for the Xbox, I´m pissed at the lack of attention and improvement in this series. And I have little hope for FIFA 2004 judging by the abstract, "we´re making gameplay improvements" answers from the EA producer.
 
 Yeah? What improvements? Give me detailed specifics. Adding Beckham hair gel cards? Lee Bowyer "get out of jail free" cards? Sir Alex Ferguson boot-throwing skills contests? I wouldn´t put it past EA.
 
 Yet still, like a sucker, I´ll try FIFA 2004 and probably be disappointed just like every other year. A footie lemming, that´s what I am!
 
 It´s pretty pathetic when ISS ´98 -- a 5-year-old PlayStation game -- is more realistic than FIFA 2003. Sad, but true.

 I thought FIFA 2003 was a huge step up for 2002. I even thought at one point you like FIFA 2003 and called it the biggest turnaround you had seen from a past years game in some time. I know it won´t ever reach WE 6 class but I think it could turn out to be a decent game. I´m staying optimistic for those Xbox owners out there.

 I´m guessing my positive early reaction of FIFA 2003 was an initial reaction. Because the more I played it, the more I realized the gameplay still was scripted, the shots still were like laser beams, and the player spacing and movement still sucked.
 
 I liked the passing system in FIFA 2003, and I thought midfield play was improved. Otherwise, the game was not very good.
 
 And you´re right: It absolutely pales in comparison to WE6.

I´ve read numerous little previews on FIFA and the one thing consistent with all of them was the fact that EA was focusing on realism more this year. We shall wait and see but if it can build on last years title and really focus on realism it shouldn´t be a bad alternative at all. I liked last years game but promptly traded it in after picking up WE6 since I had absolutely no urge to play it after that. I know the FIFA series has struggled in recent years but I´m definitely not as jaded to it as PK is. Like everything though, we´ll have to wait and see. <IMG SRC="images/forum/icons/icon_wink.gif">

 Seriously, I guess I´m most critical because I love footie and because EA has made promises of improved gameplay for this series seemingly every year and failed to deliver.
 
 My criticism would be neutered if I owned a PS2 and had WE6, which I´ve played on Neck´s machine and enjoyed. But I´m not buying a console for one game, so FIFA 2004 is my only current soccer option for the Xbox.
 
 Putting my trust in FIFA 2004 is a pretty shaky proposition, if EA´s recent track record of "improved gameplay" is any indication.
 
 P.S.: It BLOWS to work on the Fourth of July ... I´ve officially made that determination. <IMG SRC="images/forum/icons/icon_mad.gif">

i was in EB today and the guy was hyping WE6 pretty hard to some kids in the store. he also said they are selling a few a week.

 WE6: Interested, but I won´t buy a system for one game.
 
 WoO: Been there, done that. Played the absolute piss out of it when it was released in spring 2002 and I still had a PS2. Honestly, I enjoyed playing it on Neck´s PS2 in May but not as much as when I owned it and played it almost daily. I just played it so much last year ...
 
 GTA Vice City: Not that interested.
 
 NCAA 2004: Not interested. I´m not that into college football. Meaningless without a tournament. I prefer the NFL.
