really? grammar smack?
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
One of the reason the Whitecaps are having a respectable season so far in the MLS, is the play of E. Hassli. Last night against TOR during the Amway 1st leg championship, he scored this beauty in ET.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
Why did TFC pay to play their home leg in that indoor dump with its awful artificial turf when they have their own nice little outdoor stadium, with its own awful artificial turf? Would it be considered embarrassing if TFC win the Canadian Cup while they continue to set the record for worst start in MLS history with zero points from their first eight games and counting?
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
The game was actually played at the renovated BC Stadium with the 2nd leg to played in TO next week. I am pretty sure it will be played outdoors then and regarding their current record, obviously is not good but I think that they are a better team that what their record shows. Do agree about the poor artificial grass.Zeppo wrote:Why did TFC pay to play their home leg in that indoor dump with its awful artificial turf when they have their own nice little outdoor stadium, with its own awful artificial turf? Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
My bad. So that's the Whitecaps' new home? I didn't realize it was indoors and had artificial turf. It's a shame. Looks like the RBNY will be heading out there on June 20, our only meeting with Vancouver thanks to the stupid unbalanced schedule. Due to the surface, I don't expect you'll be seeing Henry play even if he is recovered from his hamstring injury by then.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
What is the Amway Championship?
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
A Canadian championship where Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver are the participants. For the last couple of years TFC has been the sole representative in NA for the group stage CONCACAF champions league (North, Central and the Caribbean). Currently Canada has only 1 berth out of 24 for the group stage while countries like Mexico and the USA have 4 each, therefore the importance for the Whitecaps not only to represent Canada but to beat TFC.fsquid wrote:What is the Amway Championship?
On a different note, good luck to your team in CL finals, as I don't dislike Bayern as much as I dislike Real.

@Zeppo; the new BC stadium was renovated recently where the roof is retractable, in fact I think they had it open that evening and the new jumbo screen is supposed to be one of the sharpest in the world. Of course the BC Lions football team plays there too and some of the Olympic ceremonies were held there as well two years back under the old roof. I do hope that they will come up with natural grass soon.

US viewers who want to watch the USMNT qualifier at Guatemala will only have the option of PPV for $30???
Good luck with that.
Good luck with that.

And it could be that way for the rest of Away qualifiers. Ouch.RobVarak wrote:US viewers who want to watch the USMNT qualifier at Guatemala will only have the option of PPV for $30???

concacaf needs to centralize their rights package.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
gotcha, forgot they can't qualify via the MLS.10spro wrote:A Canadian championship where Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver are the participants. Hell, I wish the football in CONCACAF qualifiers made it worth $30! Long way from it, though.

If you live in the USA but are Guatemalan, or Honduran, or from whatever C American country that sells its foreign rights to this ppv outfit, it's DEFINITELY worth it. For us USA fans, we go to the bar or stream it illegally over the interwebs. If I can I'll go to the bar.RobVarak wrote:Hell, I wish the football in CONCACAF qualifiers made it worth $30! And you're right Rob, and that's exactly why the usual networks aren't willing to pony up and outbid the ppv outfit. As someone on another site commented, why would we expect the handling of the foreign TV rights to be any better than the quality of the pitch or the officiating? It's CONCACAF, it sure as hell ain't pretty.

Hero to zero to hero.
I was rooting for the winner but PKs do leave a bit of an empty feeling. Let them play til they drop

Without wishing to rub it in for fsquid...
F**k you, Robben
That's two trophies you've cost Bayern this year.
F**k you, Boateng - why not give Kompany a ring to ask him what a medal looks like...
F**k you, Hoeness, you fat greasy swine. See if you can get your snout further up Platini's arse, maybe get FFS tightened up (ignoring T-Mobile's stake in Bayern, of course).
And a final F**k off to Twitcher - enjoy the Europa League.

One hell of a header by Drogba as he fights off a half assed push to equalize in the waning moments.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
And here's another massive f**k off.
Dear Bayern fans,
You had a jolly German chuckle at Eastlands, while we were beating you 2-0, because Napoli's result against Villareal put us out of the group stage. That's HUBRIS.
Are you laughing now ? Well, are you ? You blew the CL final, at home, with 2 minutes to go. That's NEMESIS.
F**k all of you !!
Oh, and the same to you Boateng. Lost Drogba for the equaliser that cost you the trophy. Ha Ha Ha Ha.

Well done to Chelsea - behind against Napoli, beat Barcelona and beat Bayern at home. Sure it wasn't pretty but it was all heart (and some pretty good tactics collapsing the field negating Bayern's speed). Bayern sh!t the bed again and only have themselves to blame.
And by themselves, I mean Robben.
John Terry is lame though, out there in his full strip like he actually stepped on the field. What a donkey.
DaveT - where you there at Eastlands on the last day? I cannot begin to imagine how incredible that must have felt - winning the title, winning the title after so long, winning the title after being down for 90 minutes of that match, winning it in the last minute of a 3-2 comeback and pipping your biggest rivals in the process. If it was me I think I would have spontaneously combusted with joy.
Thanks to your team I have one of my favorite new youtube videos;
Phil Jones' face just leaves me in hysterics. Btw, anyone want to sign professional medal-thief Michael Owen?
I can neither confirm or deny that I am one of the 47,000 people FSG have interviewed for the Liverpool manager's job....

While Robben led the charge to the CL final two years ago, he was quite s*** this year. Oh well at least it kept Spurs out.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
Anyone see the Copa Italia final?
That was crazy! Napoli win their first silverware in ages and end Juve's unbeaten season in the final game of the campaign! Crazy stuff.
All the hyperventilating Liverpool fans would be well served to remember that Antonio Conte is a young manager who came to the Juve job with little experience (was fired by Atalanta and got promotion with Siena) and never managed a 'big' club. They also didn't want him when he was announced (I'm sure they've very happy now, even despite what happened yesterday).

weird that they would have their cup final this weekend, but then all their teams were out of Europe months ago. Napoli fans are insane.

LOL Indeed they are.
