Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
My accuracy has plopped into the sh*tter as I've added more power, too. Maybe I'm overswinging to feel that newfound power, and I'm spraying the ball instead. I'm going to concentrate on accuracy points for a while.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
No gripes here. I think having no grid will certainly make scores more realistic and scoring much more challenging. It will also put a premium on approach shots and the short game.orthostud23 wrote:If no one has a gripe with this I will take the daily scores for the next 5 days and see what I can come up with.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
If I had to guess, I think it's already the putting that is separating the elite guys from the rest of us, and while I agree that removing the grid should lower the best scores, some, it may actually increase the gulf between the top and bottom scorers. So before going to that, we should make sure that the top scores being unrealistically good is what is troubling to Danimal, rather than the overall large separation between the top guys and everyone else. Eliminating green grids should help the first issue, but I think it would make the second worse.
Of course, big differences in CAG abilities make a difference too, IMO.
All that said, I like playing with the greens off on occasion. Like truth posted, you CAN read the greens some, and personally speaking, I seem to be usually only a couple of shots worse with the grids off

I think turning grids off would eliminate the unrealistic number of 1putts in the game, or ar least help. Although I managed a round of 7 under in the final round I only hit 57 percent of the fairways. Fortunately my short game was on.
Fun stuff for sure!!!

I'm not sure I will have the stomach to continue with the tourneys if grids are turned off. Yeah, there are some positively ridiculous scores being posted, but I'm so bad at putting as it is that I don't see any reduction at all in the gulf between the crazy scores and the crappy scores. It will simply serve to make both scores higher.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
As I posted before, I was surprised to have have completed a par round of nine holes on tournament and no grids. But I am doubtful that the grids are the sole answer, as my opponent was -11, with seven birdies and two eagles.
I'll be curious if my accuracy takes the drop folks here are saying it does as power gets into the 90's. Of course, with power yet to hit the 70's I am averaging 270+ yards, and going over 300 a few times every round. More power does decrease accuracy, mathematically. But if I have to hit average 350-400 yards to complain about not hitting fairways, it's kind of pointless.
But I don't see folks complaining about their accuracy posting real stats. Judging distance versus FIR and GIR would be useful for predicting where we are headed. Despite the assurances of some, it's impossible to not notice the actual scores being achieved in this game.

I want whatever setting the most players here at DSP will enjoy, because without the community and activity the club is meaningless so I have no real preference or agenda for what we do as far as settings go.

Aristo,
with my power at 90 or 91 (can't remember) i'm seeing drives ranging from 275-325 depending on wind, elevation, etc. 325 is a rarity and on any given 18 hole round I'd say I get 4, maybe 5 "long drives" of over 300 yds. My fairways hit is down to about the mid 70's and 2 of my last 3 rounds where at 57%

I totally agree. I also think we should wait a few weeks until everyone has time to max out their players (or decide on self imposed limits like we did with Links playing with the default "7" players) before we draw conclusions. I'll still probably be near the back of the pack, but some of you guys have over 160 more points than I do! I'm still over par but at least now I can sniff it.Teal wrote:I'm not sure I will have the stomach to continue with the tourneys if grids are turned off. I'm pretty much a "speed" golfer because I don't have a lot of time in the evenings and weekends and I can't afford to have anything slowing me down at this point. I really don't want to "read" the greens and would like to play with the grid. If that moves me to DSP2 I'm totally cool with that.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I have an idea....it may not be the answer, but it could be a solution. Have the top 5 Golfers every week play each week with grids off. We would have to rely on the honor system here. Set the tournaments set up with grids on, and have the top 5 turn the grids off in their gameplay settings. I am thinking about going grid less universally as I want my scores to be more simulation like and I think the challenge of hitting better approach shots and short game will make the game more challenging for me personally. It would be very cool if we could have leader boards all jammed up with the top 20 within 3-4 strokes of the leaders.
One of the ideas I want to float by the TW Devs is to completely re-work the grid by making it so you read a 3D view of the green from various camera angles, just like IRL Golf. Kinda like the 3D views we get on the PGA TOUR telecasts.
Short of this, they could include a Tournament mode grid that would be displayed for only 4-5 seconds, then disappear so you can get some idea of the nuances of the breaks in the putt without sitting there for 30-60 seconds fine tuning the line due to too much information. This would be more realistic and more like reading an actual green. Do these scenarios interest anyone else?

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
Sorry just got online for the day, didn't mean to set off a debate. I'm not disappointed because there is a gap in scores just that the scores are so low. Frankly I don't even know why the game is fun for you guys when you're shooting -30 on a 4 round tournament. Part of what is enjoyable to me is the game is a challenge and I think if I was shooting that low the game would be just going through the motions for me.
Having said that it's not intended to be a shot at anyone just the nature of the game in general. I am not turning off grids or anything else that is only going to widen the gap. I also think a handicap system while a good idea would be a real PIA to manage.
The only thing I could think of trying one week is to pick a marginal pro in the game an everyone playing with him. Then we're all on even footing with attributes and we see if that make a difference. My hunch is it won't make a difference but that is the only way to normalize anything.
Otherwise we just deal with it and keep rolling. I know I am getting better at the game and sooner or later for the guys who play the gap will close. It's just going to be silly to see a top 10 leader board of everyone at -20 or better by the end of the season.
I have an actual match at 3pm today assuming the weather hold but we could try the one pro routine on a daily tomorrow if you guys want to see if that does anything. Let me know your thoughts.
Actually you know the best idea for a future version of the game is for online stuff like this have the players create an online golfer and give them X points to assign out of the gate and that is all they get.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I like the idea of assigning points at the beginning of the career, and that's it. If you want to be a power guy, a finesse guy, a putting prodigy...you set that up from the outset, and that's it. You are forced to play to your strengths and overcome your weaknesses. I like that idea alot, actually, rather than being able to go from suck to super with the attribution of points all along the way. At the very least, put the cap on xp a lot lower.
Good point, Dan.

Maybe we could play the dailies with our CAG and the weekly's with a pro - or vice versa.
That way we still get rounds in with the CAG to get xp. But I will do whatever, just like to play. I wouldn't even mind limiting my guy to a lower set of points while others used a higher set.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
In past versions of TW, I would agree that shooting low scores all the time would be boring and going through the motions. However, TW13 is not that way for me. For instance, today I started off with the Daily at Whistling Straits. Could not hit a fairway or approach shot to save my life. Scrambled to a -5 thanks to a couple of unexpected chip ins. Second round I played was Rd 4 of the weekly at ELGC. I was -7 at the turn and my game was clicking. Ended up with my best round EVER at ELGC with a -11 (59). My 3rd round of the day was a Live Tournament at River Highlands with the same settings we use here at DSP. Could no hit any putts nor approach shots within 30' and ended up with a -4. Couple this with the challenging rounds in the Dailies this week at St. Andrews and Pinehurst #2, this game challenges me in virtually every round and is certainly not going through the motions here....Danimal wrote:Sorry just got online for the day, didn't mean to set off a debate. Personally I say if a few guys are really good, good for them!! No need to screw up settings for the majority. If it gets really bad maybe you could make tiers of competition.
As for myself, putting is clearly what kills me. I was +2 at Eastlake this week, but 30+ putts every single round. I missed multiple <10 foot birdie putts every round. Overall I'm enjoying the game though, and we shouldn't go crazy because some guys are really good.

I am back to playing games again. Had my 2nd kid, and worked a lot of 60 hour weeks. I've got some time now. How much new stuff does this game bring than last year's version? They didn't ruin anything from last year, did they? And should I get the standard edition or is there a special edition with extra courses? I plan to only play offline (no live) thanks.

Yup I am with Naples. Leave it how it is currently. I'm aware that I can't play nearly enough to hang with the big dogs but I find it really satisfying when I can hit near par during a round. No way that happens without green grids since I'm already fairly horrible on them as is.

Agreed. I'm still competing with myself at this point. Other than a tip of the cap for their excellent play, I could give three sh*ts about players shooting -30 in four-round tournaments, especially since they're playing the game MUCH more often than me.dbdynsty25 wrote:Yup I am with Naples. I would guess the vast majority here still need and like the green grids. No sense to change our format just to cater to a few players with alien ability.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
And I'll co-signed the last 3 posts. Kudos to the usual top suspects, I really want to get to that level one day, but at the same time I know that it's not realistic when I travel every week and leave the game for 3-4 days. Although I managed to finish-1 at the weekly on Thursday night before my trip, I much prefer to play it daily and not all at once. But such is my schedule and I am enjoying the tournament a lot and I am committed to it. IMO, just leave things as it is.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
OTH, I don't mind having a weekly where the grids are not enabled on a trial basis for a week and see how the scores are for the top guys.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
FWIW, the DSP II guys are not playing much more than the main group. I was the only one of four to finish our first tourney. The other three just played one round. I didn't mind pocketing the 14k in winnings, though.
I just completed our daily at Kaiwah with a 3 under 69. I hit all all the fairways minus one that I tried to aggressively push. It was one of those that runs slanted, so tried to hit it farther up, and came up just short. But instill birdied the hole, so it was a good gamble.
My drives ranged from 240-270. I had 26 putts, thanks to a three-putt for triple bogey on 17.
My current ratings are
Power 59
Accuracy 56
Workability 59
Spin 54
Recovery 55
Putting 69
If going to 90+ in power and accuracy is going to make it harder to hit fairways, then the game is broke.
As it is, I'm in that sweet spot of having to really work at making pars and birdies. But I dont appreciate notion that folks that consistently hitting unreal scores are also trying to tell me that higher ratings will make the game more challenging.
