4 road to the show seasons in and the game decides to freeze every game.
Sold it.

Re: MLB 12 The Show
I'm 54 games in to my season (23-31, Tribe on AS) and twice the game froze while trying to save at the end of a game. Kinda frustrating.Sudz wrote:4 road to the show seasons in and the game decides to freeze every game.

But the good thing is both games were originally losses, and when I replayed them I won one of them.
Re: MLB 12 The Show
BTW, you know you've spent WAY too much time playing The Show when you're at the ballpark watching the game in person, the batter takes a hefty rip at a fastball, just catches a piece of it, fouls it straight back and you're looking for the little window to pop up saying, "Contact: Just Missed. Timing: Perfect."

A number of people at OS are reporting freezing issues when trying to continue franchises after downloading the patch. Unsure what is causing it. May be a good idea to hold off on updating it for a few days.sportdan30 wrote:New patch available. No help with hitting for you guys who are struggling.

Re: MLB 12 The Show
Currently 5 games into my Dodgers season and I'm 3-2. Started out 0-2 and was shutout in both the first two games. Didn't score any runs in my 3rd game until the 5th inning or so and then held on for my 1st win....was getting worried there for a bit. I'm on veteran level but have the sliders adjusted in favor of the CPU for contact, and power. For right now these settings are giving me very good games. I've turned off the presentation and can usually complete a game in 40 minutes or so.
This continues to be the holy grail for sports games, it's just such a great freaking game. I'm not as big of a baseball fan now as I was when I was younger but I can go complete baseball nerd with this game and really get into it. Loving this game, nothing else is even getting any of my game playing time.

I just got a treat I haven't seen before. I struck out 10 batters and
Matt says stand by for this MONTAGE ALERT and I was treated with every batter I struck out last swing, and it was awesome. Great little presentation attribute, this happened in the 8th Inning.

Re: MLB 12 The Show
I played a 15-inning game last night, my Cubs team at St. Louis. I won 2-1 in a low-wattage duel that wouldn't end. I gave up only four hits but twelve walks. I think I had 10 hits and the same number of strikeouts, along with three walks. Had a chance to score more but got thrown out at the plate twice.
The winning run was both epic and telling of the offensive capabilities of my Cubs team. I had a man on second, one out, and hit a grounder up the middle just to the right of second base. My runner takes off while the St. Louis second baseman manages to dive for the ball and hit it (but not catch it). Summoning my inner Dale Sveum, I wave the runner home and immediately regret it, as the second-baseman gets up more quickly than expected and goes to pick up the ball. However, he drops it after picking it up, like he was too amped up and was thinking about the throw before securing the ball. I scored and held on for the win.
I love this game even though I can't hit for anything.

Have some time today to mess around with the game.. default veteran across the board for me plays quite well.
I might kick off a season mode.

The only sliders I would suggest is to lower the CPU fouls ball frequency to one (pitch counts will be way too hight if not) and lower contact for the CPU one click. Other than that, veteran does give a very nice challenge.MizzouRah wrote:Have some time today to mess around with the game.. default veteran across the board for me plays quite well.

Re: MLB 12 The Show
I'm late to the party. Just got it last week. I played a fair amount two years ago, but I barely touched it last year, so I guess I'm primed for some baseball gaming.
But I just discovered two things that I never tried before. First is custom camera for batting. I like catcher offset, but I found it too low and had a devil of a time, taking pitches I thought were low that were actually well up into the zone. So I switched to High, camera that is, and that felt much better but I missed the offset angle. So I finally delved into custom, and lo and behold, not only could I get the camera up and slide it to the side for an offset view, but amazingly the game automatically shifts the offset side when the batter switches sides. Amazing touch of polish there. I was spending time trying to perfectly match two sides of offset, imagining I would have to go into the menu every time a batter hitting from the other side would come up, but no, the game "gets it" and I only need the one offset custom camera. Awesome.
I also like pitching from the same camera I hit from, although I'm sure I will mess around with the accurate TV camera angles from time to time. But I never realized I could turn off those little dots that show up after every pitch. I finally found the option to turn off that "pitch report" and it amazes me how much more I enjoy the clean look, and frankly how much better I can see the pitches and their movement without that post-pitch jumble of dots and words and numbers. Soooo much nicer for me, and breaking pitches really seem to be much more effective somehow, even though, yes, I know those graphics don't show up until after the pitch. Whatever.
I use All-Star pitching with the pulse, which I think is a huge step in the right direction even though it is still to easy to throw strikes at will. But I used to cheat with the meter, knowing that if I was late on a curve ball, say, it would always be lower, for example. With the pulse, you never know where that thing is going to be if you have the big circle. And I use Veteran hitting, because I tend to suck and lack the patience it took me a season of High Heat to develop. I had gone to pure timing due to frustration after a few games, but now I'm back to pure analog, which I like a lot, and I am having fun.
FIFA and I played an online game last night and it was very fun. Very smooth, maybe a weird delay but not like the madden kick meter delay more like we are each in our own universe, if you will. The pitching was perfectly accurate as to when I hit the button, and the hitting felt that way too even though there looked like a graphical delay between when I swing and when the ball came off the bat, if you know what I mean. But every ball felt correct coming off the bat. It was a fun as hell game, but neither of us proved patient enough to draw a single walk. Not a one.
The one tip I would give you FIFA when it comes to pitching is that not every pitch needs to be in the strike zone. It's a good idea a lot of the time to intentionally pitch outside the zone and get the guy to chase. I should have crushed you!
Just kidding. We each ended up with eight hits but FIFA had two 2-run HRs and I could only muster 2 runs on some scrappy hitting. Super fun though. I miss playing baseball against another human being, it used to be such a huge part of my gaming years ago.
But I wonder how often this happens these days: we played on the PS3, but we were chatting through our 360s. Probably happens all the time out there.
So I see there are three rosters in the vault with the OS label, but only the Spring Training one is authored by the right dude. I don't know enough about the rosters, but I'm assuming the Opening Day one is the way to go, even though the author is some other person? I hope there are no attribute edits, right? Just moving guys around, setting up lineups, and ok, maybe lots of creations and edits for minor leaguers, but hopefully no edits for the major leaguers? Or should I just go with the latest auto-download of online rosters? I imagine those don't have proper minor leaguers, right?

Honestly, I like straight defaults right now. Waino had 8 K's last game and went 7 strong innings, I don't see anything that needs tweaked right now. Jon Jay had a HR too with a contact swing.sportdan30 wrote:The only sliders I would suggest is to lower the CPU fouls ball frequency to one (pitch counts will be way too hight if not) and lower contact for the CPU one click. Re: MLB 12 The Show
Lets preface this buy saying I got rid of my PS3 earlier this year because it really was collecting dust. I bought it 3 years ago JUST for MLB the show. After last years game for as good as it is I was getting bored with it. I told myself after getting rid of it to NOT look at the MLB the show forums on this site and at OS. Woops... I couldnt help it. I do like MLB 2k12 but its lacking in a couple of departments and is making me miss THE SHOW. Time to get out the plastic again... Wife will not be pleased by this purchase.
Are most of you guys going with the Pulse pitching?? Which one is dishing out more walks??

Re: MLB 12 The Show
I think my pulse pitching walk totals have varied from 4-12 (I've hit the latter number twice). I am pitching with a pretty crappy Cubs staff, so that probably has a lot to do with the high totals. I have been striking out a lot of batters, but unlike Zeppo's assessment, I never feel like I can throw a strike if I really want to. I can't time the pulse at all, and instead use it to place my pitching indicator.
Had my first "breakout" game offensively in my Cubs franchise -- 15 hits and 5 walks, 4 doubles, yet only 5 runs in a 5-4 victory at Miami. I was up 5-2 when I brought in Carlos Marmol for the save. He walked two and gave up two hits amid getting two outs to make it 5-4 with men on second and third, but finally got the last batter with a ground out.
One thing I am not seeing that I have in year's past is HRs, especially by my team. The Cubs blow, no doubt, but I have 2 HRs in 13 games, both with Soto. Not really giving up very many either. What about you guys? I don't like to tweak sliders too quickly in this game as, just like real life, trends occur where you'll see too many or too few of something before the trend reverses.

Re: MLB 12 The Show
I think I'm middle of the pack in homeruns (Ike Davis has six through 28 games) but I'm playing on Veteran. My team batting average is still fairly low. I wasn't hitting homeruns at all on my first franchise attempt on All-Star, with Zone batting. I've just got everything on Veteran Analog now, and it's pretty breezy and not too easy at all, especially on the Vita. Liked pulse pitching quite a bit but it's too janky on the Vita with the pitching view I prefer (Pitcher Close).
Even on Veteran, I can only seem to hit with the full Offset camera. Timing is so important, and I just can't judge speed with the straight-on views. Also, what I like on Veteran is that even a guy like Ruben Tejada can run into one every once in a while. I'm not getting the 15 hits per game I was worried I'd get there, not even close.
Trade logic is definitely harder to take advantage of this year. I'd love to upgrade my s*** bench (Justin Turner, Ronnie Cedeno and Mike Nickeas? Really?) but the CPU won't let me plunder them, to their credit. Intended to grab Noriochka Aoki (who was the best player on the Tokyo Swallows) from the Brewers, but Kirk Niewenhuis is actually playing really well for me and fills that speedy lefty outfielder role quite well already. I love switch hitters... wish I could pry Nick Punto from the Sox, but they don't want to hear it.
I'm 11-17 right now, though I was still futzing around with the difficulty for the first ten games. I suspect I'd be playing straight .500 ball if I'd started on Veteran defaults from the get-go.

Re: MLB 12 The Show
Franchise veterans, I seek your help. I am a bit confused! I don't really see where I have the option to select my 25-man roster before the start of the season. I opted to sim to the end of spring training, and it was already done by the CPU. Then I started over and simmed to the last day of spring training, but I still saw no option or place where I could select the 25 I wanted to start my season with, and it was the same result as before: a CPU selected 25-man MLB roster. As far as I can see, I have a 40-man MLB roster until I end spring training, and then it becomes the 25-man roster with no input from me. I'm a bit lost! What am I missing?
I also got a litte confused by the training options, where somehow you can only have hitting coach or batting cage selected, for example, for some players, not all. Any tips for that stuff, or is it not meaningful in the long run?
I'm a noob to this franchise mode. I guess I played season mode a couple years ago.

Re: MLB 12 The Show
Zeppo, the 40-man roster setting confused me too. I don't think you get notified. In my case, the CPU lineup was only off by a couple of players, so I fixed that manually before the first game. The other option would probably be to remove guys manually from the 40-man roster before the end of ST, until you have your 25 MLB roster players. It's definitely an annoying omission.
As for the training options, every training option is position based. Not really realistic but that's how it works.

Re: MLB 12 The Show
Threw my first CGSO in MLB 12 last night, pitching with the Cubs's Chris Volstad against the Reds at Wrigley. I won 3-0, giving up five hits, walking four, and striking out five. Took just under 120 pitches, and I was on my last batter as the Reds had a man at third with two outs when I got the final out. It felt like a real accomplishment with Pulse pitching.
I love the crowd reactions. Hearing them loudly boo after getting screwed on a bad call is awesome.

Congrats on the complete game shutout!! I know last year when I threw my first perfect game ever in a digital baseball game I took photos of the box score and put them on my man cave wall!Brando70 wrote:Threw my first CGSO in MLB 12 last night, pitching with the Cubs's Chris Volstad against the Reds at Wrigley.
