Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I started messing around wit the Tiger Legacy stuff last night. As cheesy and ridiculous as the presentation is (seriously, the Toddler Years?), it is actually a good tutorial for everything you need to master in the game. It's basically the same as the Tiger Challenges from earlier games.
It starts with just basically easy stuff, but it drills you on actually purposely setting up your shots. Hell, I had a hard time putting four balls into the circle around the pin from Tiger's sandbox. But that's the key. Hitting multiple shots. I was wondering where these challenges were, because I need to work on my pitching and such.
When you consistently miss a shot in these challenges, just start experimenting and try to drill down on what it is trying to teach you. Like the rest of the game, it doesn't spell it out for you. But from setting your strike zone and stance, to getting a feel for the swing mechanic, the challenges are there to teach you about the tools and when to use them when playing the game.
I know these challenges get dismissed by a lot of folks because they seem like nothing more than fun time wasters, but one thing the devs have done over the years is provide challenges that help you learn how to use the tools they have implemented. I'm with Abner, in that I could care less about revisiting Tiger's life, especially the Toddler and Teen years. Just realize that the point of these is not that, but actually learning more about the game. This is not for everyone, but if you are frustrated with parts of your game, you may find this useful.

I have the same feelings but with opposite issues. Using the Kinect, I could consistently drive straight off the tee. Not that far with my CAG, but I could consistently hit 250 or so and it would be straight. Putting and the short game with the Kinect was another story. Four putting was the norm for me with the Kinect.Teal wrote:That was a very frustrating finish to a very frustrating tournament. I'm sure as hell glad the real Masters was more fun than that.
Good grief, I suck.
I'm not sure how long I'll be able to endure tournament difficulty, if my dude doesn't improve in his @#$%ing putting and short game soon. I swear, if I try to finesse a short shot or putt, it goes 3 feet. If I give it the slightest more oomph, I knock it over the damned green. I just don't get it.
How the @#$% do I get better at this?
Now that I have switched to the controller it is the opposite. I actually have a decent feel for the putting. Not that I am very good, but I am consistent and if I screw up I know why. However, now my driving and short game is the problem. I rarely hit it straight with the controller, and when I do it goes maybe 150yd if I am lucky. I went to the practice facility for about an hour and just hit off the tee using driver, woods, and irons. It seemed like I got a rhythm down on driving where it was at least consistent around 230-250. Then I go to Eastlake and start hitting it 80 yards off the tee. I had one hole where I exceeded my strokes and I never even made it on the green. Problem is that I was trying all sorts of different things to figure out what I was doing wrong, but my feedback stayed the same, slow tempo, overswing. Obviously there is something that is just not clicking for me yet with the controller.
Thanks for the advice, I will give this a shot as I have no idea why I can't drive correctly. I have 47 on power and accuracy, got the EA Collector Edition Clubs with Driver, and have the Nike balls and I am lucky if I drive it over 200yd. My short game is even worse. However, in practice it seemed like I was nailing the short game. Oh well, I will say that it keeps me coming back for more in spite of the frustration.Aristo wrote:I know these challenges get dismissed by a lot of folks because they seem like nothing more than fun time wasters, but one thing the devs have done over the years is provide challenges that help you learn how to use the tools they have implemented. Don, your short drive issue is strange. I'm not very good at the game and my CAG has like 42 for power, but I have absolutely no problem hitting a 265+ drive every tee. I don't always hit it straight and sometimes I really screw it up but without being very comfortable and practiced I definitely have no issues with not getting the appropriate distance.
I bring the club back with the analog stick until it gets to the very top of the back swing, I let it pause there for a half a second and then push forward as fast as I can. 90% of the time I get the "Overswing/Slow' combo but I get decent distance.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I'm having such a tough time getting up to play this some more. I kept posting +5 to +15 rounds on almost everywhere, and as I got enough XP to raise some stats, I figured I'd get better. Well---I haven't. I'll play pretty decent for most holes, but 3 to 5 in a round give me the same exact problem. I hit the ball WAY too short for what I swung at. In the last round I played, on four separate occasions I had a shot that was pretty even as far as elevation, and my club had the potential to hit a shot a good 10 yards past the target distance. I did a full swing, and it was THIRTY YARDS short. It was straight, tempo was normal, and swing was normal. But the shot just completely flubbed. I wasn't using any sort of spin or stance change. But a shot like that will completely change the hole, naturally. I ended up double or triple-bogeying it, I forget which.
That's what's killing me. A bad putt here or there will get me once in a while, but some of these medium range shots seem to be completely random. What I HAVEN'T been doing is what somebody explained earlier--pausing at the top of the arc. I'm trying to get a swing up and downswinging at the top of the arc. Maybe that's creating a short hit, or randomized output, I don't know. But I thought creating a hitch at the top of the swing would have negative results--am I incorrect there?
I'm on the verge of pulling out of the CC to allow somebody more competent to play and get points for the club, because right now it's just hopeless trying to do anything other than +10 in almost any round or conditions.

Did you check your lie? Press down on the left stick. If the ball is buried or in some taller grass, it slows down the club head considerably thus leaving it really short, even when the markers say the ball is going to sail over the green. Usually in the thick stuff you need to club up two or three clubs to get the appropriate distance.TCrouch wrote:I hit the ball WAY too short for what I swung at. I know it probably obvious and you're offended I'm bringing it up, but that's the most obvious reason to be completely short even when you think you hit it 100% and with the correct club.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
Yeah--fairway, that shouldn't be a problem.
I very rarely whack one off the targeted direction. And even when I hit the first or second cut, I'm able to drop the contact indicator down and really take a good dig at it and still get good distance. But these problems I have from time to time seem to be random, and almost all of them from the fairway (and not wind related).
I'm not offended at all, though, man. I've never worked so hard at a game and sucked so badly. I mean, I'm REALLY not used to this--I can usually figure out a game and be at least proficient at it. Right now I'm completely baffled at what I'm missing, because I'm almost always in the bottom 2 or 3 spots of a 16-man leaderboard, which is new territory for me
It really confuses me, because my first extensive online experience was with a golf game--I moderated for Sierra's old defunct service Won.Net and played with Vance Cook in an employee tournament for his PGA game. At the time, I knew exactly what to do and where to hit, and helped he and his development staff (of course, I only knew their online handles like "DepDog", etc.) to refine the True Swing mechanic he used.
As far as knowing what I'm dealing with on a golf shot, I like to think I've got it figured out. I know if the ball is above my feet it will pull to the right (I'm a lefty), and leaning down knocks it left. Hitting out of the rough or uphill, into wind, etc. That's what makes it so infuriating. I take all of this into account, hit a shot I think should be good, and I'm hitting 50 yards out of 88?
It's like playing Golf at a craps table--no clue what I'm doing from shot to shot, even though my strategy SHOULD be sound.

Well, I'm not taking it terribly seriously as the surgery is simply to make sure they achieve "clear margins" as my dermatologist (and biopsy results) said he got clear margins initially. What I AM taking seriously is that this is my 2nd brush with skin cancer and I will be asking my wife to help me monthly with self exams as well as investing heavily in sun screen anytime I venture into the sun. Thanks for the well wishes....I really appreciate it!Idbdynsty25 wrote:That's an interesting thing to just say matter of factly. LOL. Good luck, Divot! Hope things go smoothly for you. Scary stuff, even if current threat seems to be low.
On the gaming front, I thoroughly enjoyed our Masters tourney. Was very fun watching the real stuff on TV and then tackling my rounds, looking to see who looked catch-able and who was nipping at my heels!

In my offline career I've been playing on the Tour Pro level with the swing meter on so I can see exactly how far to take my swing and get a feel for how far back to take my clubs and it is has helped me get better when playing at the tournament level. At the tournament level there are times when I'll have a good round putting but my chipping is terrible or it will be the opposite and I'll have a round where I putt terribly but I'm chipping out of the bunkers so well that I think I should just aim for the bunkers instead of going for the green for a long failed putt.
I had a par 4 in yesterdays daily where I pulled it into the trees and thought there goes my good round up to that point but I after I got out of the hazard with a short hit to get back on the fairway, my next shot I landed just off the green and was able to chip it in and saved par and would have finished below par for the first time if I hadn't missed a couple of putts on 17 and 18. Love the game though, best version ever in my opinion.

I think a little thread hijack is allowed when we're dealing with anything relating to Cancer.
Seriously, if anybody has a problem with it, they need some freaking perspective.
Good luck, man.

Officially the tournament doesn't end for another 4 hours or so then I'll grab the leader board and cup points and set up the next weekly. I'm home with a stomach virus today so hopefully John can set up the daily's for today.
Personally the weekly and the live tournaments are enough to keep me busy.

What's the current status on the waiting list? Did someone start a second CC? If there are enough guys waiting, I'd be willing to start a second one while we wait.Danimal wrote:Officially the tournament doesn't end for another 4 hours or so then I'll grab the leader board and cup points and set up the next weekly. Not a big deal either way. I'm currently in one at GWJ, but we just have two members. It's also set to Pro, which is too easy. So I'm considering starting up a new one anyway.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
All,
For those of you having trouble with the short game in TW13, I found the following tutorial at the OS Golf forums that you might find useful. Thanks to jaymee13 for the tutorial!
Fellow Tiger Woods players,
I have put in over 1000 holes so far into this game and I have found a way to improve your short game, focusing on chipping alone. I guarantee your ball will land within inches of the hole if not in the hole, or your money back (*since you haven’t paid me anything, this means absolutely nothing). Please follow these steps.
Must follow rule: DO NOT FOLLOW CADDIE! Doing so will mess up this manual, but better, shot placement.
Step 1 – Adjusting to the height of the ball: While standing beside your ball, click on the left analog stick downward to look at your lie. This will tell you two things, the height of the ball and slope. For now, we can ignore the slope. The height of the ball has two attributes; Above/Below feet and Degree. These are very important.
Below Feet: Ball will shoot off the club to the right (opposite for lefty)
Above Feet: Ball will shoot off the club to the left (opposite for lefty)
Click your d-pad to the left or right based on the number of the degree. One degree above feet will require one click right. Three degrees below feet will require 3 clicks left. Use this as your base measurement.
Step 2 – Adjusting for slope of green: Once done looking at lie, push up on the left analog stick to see the slope of the green. Please add the following adjustments to the adjustment made on Step 1. This will be a two-part process.
Part one is to adjust for slope uphill/downhill. Use this as the golden rule. For every inch up or down, adjust the aiming marker up/down to the equivalent in feet. One inch downward slope; bring the aimer back one foot from current marker spot (not from the actual hole).
Part two is to adjust for break. We all use the green grid to make our putts, and this is no difference for chipping. Move your current aimer left or right according to break. This part uses some prior knowledge on how greens move. There is no math on this, so you will have to do your homework. Once this is completed and to your satisfaction please move onto step 3 as your aim is now perfect.
Step 3 – Adjusting the strike: Now that we got aiming out of the way, now it’s time to look at strike. Strike is at the bottom right corner and looks like a golf ball with crosshairs on it. For all shots we are to move the crosshairs slightly below the center of the ball. I find this to work the best so you don’t overshoot the shot. That is all we have to do here, so let’s move on.
Step 4 – Making the perfect shotThis last step requires you to make the shot as perfect as possible. I recommend slowing the backswing so in the matter of a second or so you can land on the perfect amount of power to add to the shot. If you find yourself going into the red, just let go of your shot stick and it will let you attempt again. You should keep doing this until you know you’re lined up perfect because overswinging will affect your shot and this tutorial would be useless.
Also check for perfect straight alignment. If you see a red backswing, I would follow the same method of letting go of the shot stick. If it’s not straight, you will miss! Also the tempo is important, try your best to get perfect tempo. I have landed it in with slow tempo, but not with fast tempo, so watch out.
So following these steps will improve your chipping game and you will hole out a lot more. I can guarantee this for up to 10 yards away from the hole no matter the lie. The bunker is an exception due to the height that you’re usually going against, but I have used these and still is a better shot than normal.
Please try these out and let me know how you do and if you see improvement.

The status is if someone drops then I will contact the next person on the list. If I count you there are 4 or 5 people waiting, I don't have it in front of me. As I said before anyone can do whatever they want. I am running the DSP Cup out of this club.Aristo wrote:What's the current status on the waiting list? Did someone start a second CC? If there are enough guys waiting, I'd be willing to start a second one while we wait.Danimal wrote:Officially the tournament doesn't end for another 4 hours or so then I'll grab the leader board and cup points and set up the next weekly. I'm home with a stomach virus today so hopefully John can set up the daily's for today.
Personally the weekly and the live tournaments are enough to keep me busy.
Not a big deal either way. I'm currently in one at GWJ, but we just have two members. It's also set to Pro, which is too easy. So I'm considering starting up a new one anyway.

I want in (am I on the list?) but I do think maybe the people on the waiting list should get a 2nd DSP Club created.Danimal wrote:The status is if someone drops then I will contact the next person on the list. I hope your H2H with Divot will help your game. I think as long as you're enjoying the game despite the frustrations that you mentioned which I totally can relate, will keep you around. I don't think any of us in this community are in the CC to mock at how poorly someone is performing in the club. Having said that, it's a damn shame that only 25 dudes can be members of the DSP club.TCrouch wrote:I'm on the verge of pulling out of the CC to allow somebody more competent to play and get points for the club, because right now it's just hopeless trying to do anything other than +10 in almost any round or conditions.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
If I start a second CC, it won't be a Cup thing. It would be more like a feeder club that I would expect folks to move on from if space opens up in Danimal's. So I would want to set it up to be similar to the main one, so that folks have a good idea of what thy are committing to.
