One thing thats helped me is turning check swing appeal off. Just seemed to random to me anyway. Check swings will still get called a strike with power swing, sometimes on regular swing, and not much on contact swing. It helps with walks and getting deeper into counts.

I started a franchise with the Cardinals and the first roster update from SCEA.

I've played enough exhibition games to finally settle in a bit - even though I stink at times with analog fielding.

Carpenter opened up against the Orioles.. so many cool things in this game, you can really tell how passionate these programmers are about not only baseball, but about their product. I have to leave for a bit, so I saved the game in the bottom of the 11th with the score tied 2-2. Both teams have 8 hits, I have 4 errors.. lol...

You can tell who's on base, who's playing the field, etc.. ratings really matter big time. I can't tell you how many different hits I've seen, had one bounce off the bag at 1st, one off the pitchers leg which made him limp back to the mound, balls down the line, balls that tail away, etc. The new bullpen options are a treat! Had light rain coming down and the ball seemed to die a bit more with the wet field, the commentators even commented on it. I could write 3 pages of great things about this game, it's that good.

I'll probably play well into the wee hours of the night tonight, that's for sure.

I've been having a great time just playing exhibition games and RTTS stuff, but am starting my franchise season. We'll see how much I can do with the Pirates. Agree about all the great things in this game -- too numerous to mention.

How does turning that off affect walks? I guess I don't understand, do you get check swings called in your favor more without the appeal?

Also, I had 11 errors my last game, why can't I thrown in the green from a SS to 1B?

It helps because if you check your swing with it off there is no appeal and it's a ball. With appeals turned on it just randomly let's the umpire call it a swing or not. Too random. So in short, as long as you hold up its a ball.

Ok, thanks. I assume that works for the CPU as well when they are batting?

Lost game two vs the Marlins, 9-1 8O

My first HR, 2B Eugenio Velez.. I started all backup players this game and the Marlins did have their starters in as well as Josh Johnson pitching. He struck me out 4 times in 3 innings.

I've turned off the throwing meter and had only 1 error, yeay! Waino was hammered for 4 runs in the first inning.

It's neat to see what this spring training invites bring to the table though.. will make my decisions on how they play.

I didn't realize the fans will starting heading home early in a blow out. Is that new?

I have no idea, but they do stay when I'm playing someone at their home.. 0-3 to start the spring!

0-4 lost to the Red Sox 6-4 in 11 innings, I had my chances though.. I can hit decent with my starting 8, but once I sub in the backups, it's all over. :)

Crawford had 2 triples against me, he can run! No errors though!!!

No, that's not new. As a Tribe fan who regularly loses 100 games every year in The Show, I've seen that quite a few times. In fact, usually by July or August the fans stop coming at all. :D

This year I'm 8-13 through the first month, with the Tribe on All Star.

Got my first pickoff this weekend. (The pitcher formerly known as) Fausto Carmona picked Erick Aybar off first. Aybar's helmet looks awesome, it's all caked up with pine tar, the whole front of it is black, you can barely see the logo. Very cool. All the helmets look great in this game.

You know, after several games, I honestly don't think the commentary is better in 2k12 - The Show is actually quite good once you start a franchise.

Opening day.. vs the Marlins.

Cool to see the new stadium hopping.. fish tank behind home is pretty neat. Had "Opening Day" on the field, nice touch.

Josh Johnson was not nice, pitching a 1 hitter. The only hit I had was a double by Holliday, although I only struck out 8 times :) Carp was great except for one inning when he allowed 3 runs in the 4th. The other run came on an error and Reyes stole third and I was so caught off guard, I threw the ball to 1st base. DOH!

I had to look at the Cardinals real schedule, I didn't know they played Miami for just one game and then off to Milwaukee. We get Zach Greinke next, UGH!

This is also the first game where the crowd really reacts realistically, they were on their feet for the last out and really loud. I also love to go into a replay and just take a look at all the working scoreboards and what not.

I picked up Ross Gload to backup Berkman at first base and will give the CPU a few weeks to pick from FA before I see if I have any more needs. Playing on AS defaults for everything is going to either land me in last place or allow me to learn the game. The only walk I drew was with Carpenter batting, but I wasn't swinging at anything. :)

The only thing about pitching from the broadcast camera or any camera behind the pitcher is on balls hit to the IF, I get a late start even on "assist" and have never been able to dive for a ball, although I'm hitting the right stick down.

Seems like this game is all I'm going to need for the next few months - in no way am I even remotely bored, in fact I might play another game later tonight.

Got 2 hits this time, I'm moving down to veteran for hitting. I gave up 8 runs with pitching, but that's my fault.. hitting, even on timing, I just don't get yet.

Seeing the ticker at the bottom go through your franchise games and give you updates is really cool.

Anyone else start a franchise yet? What settings are you using, how is your team doing, what moves have you made?

Game vs the Brewers tonight, this time on "veteran" hitting.. we will see how I do!

I just plain suck at hitting, period. I need a break before I smash my controller. Meanwhile, the Brewers hit another 4 HR's.

I had an odd game last night where I had three balks called on my collection of pitchers. . .wasn't sure if this was something new or if it was a consequence of moving up to All-Star. I'm still using the analog pitching because I feel that is more natural than the pulse pitching. . .

Your pitcher has to come set before throwing a pitch - you can also turn that off if you so choose.

I always play with the Cubs, and I'm waiting this year until opening day rosters are set because the roster is in such a state of flux. I don't need my franchise rosters to be 100% accurate but I hate starting early only to have my franchise roster look a lot different than the one in real life.

Yeah, I'm waiting for the OS rosters before I start franchise too. Doing RTTS and a touch of Diamond Dynasty in the meanwhile.

Speaking of, I'm doing a brief, highly subjective series on my RTTS experience over at Tom Chick's site:

Haven't started a season yet either, but that's mainly becuase I'm still in the NCAA Tournament mode. Once Kansas loses.....let's not go there! I am getting the itch to start one though, but I'll wait patiently until the OS Rosters are complete. I'd like the availability of players such as Matt Adams in case someone like Lance Berkman goes down with an injury.

My settings will be Veteran pitching and Veteran batting to start off. I'll eventually move my batting to All-Star, but I'm not rushing things. The Cards should put up some runs this year, and I refuse to give in to a harder batting difficulty just because. I have arm strength lowered one click, pitch speed lowered two clicks, and that's about it for sliders. I pitch with Classic as I love how ratings play a significant part in the game and love the pace of the game. I hit with zone with that ugly splotch thing off.

If I find that I'm dominating game after game, I'll then make some slight modifications.
