You do not need a computer to use an iPad. Everything can be done over wifi just like your Android tablets. That was my main gripe with the first version...it required a PC. Now that they allow you to sync over the air, it's a lot more functional. My issue with Apple is that they act like they invented it. Android did it first.Rodster wrote:I was going to check one out @ BB tomorrow. Is itunes required on a Windows 7 computer or can you download your stuff via WiFi?

Do not get 16...so yeah, 32 is the sweet spot really. 64 may be overkill.

You know i'm going to come home with an iPad, then i'll see the Samsung hi-res screen and i'll regret my purchase lol.

Naw man...you'll be happy w/ it. iPads hold their value pretty well, so worst case, lose 100 bucks in a few months of use. No biggie right?Rodster wrote:You know i'm going to come home with an iPad, then i'll see the Samsung hi-res screen and i'll regret my purchase lol.
And Samsung manufactured the LCD in the iPad (3) so you're getting a Sammy hi-res screen after all.

Re: Apple and Macs: New products, iMacs, iWork, iLife
The display is indeed amazing!
The iPad definitely feels heavier than the iPad 2. Takes a little getting used to.
The Targus slim case is crap!
I can't believe how crystal clear everything looks.
How do you end an sentence with the dictation when using a period?
Speed and performance is great.
Love how the app store is set up...better than before.
The camera is a pretty significant upgrade.

I think i'm just going to get the 16gb version. I won't be storing movies or music on mine so I think I'll be ok with 16gb..

Apparently the graphics for apps designed for the new iPad, due to the higher resolution, may end up being two to three times as large as apps pre- new iPad, so depending on the apps you get and like to keep around on your device you may regret that down the road. Something to consider.tjung0831 wrote:I think i'm just going to get the 16gb version. I won't be storing movies or music on mine so I think I'll be ok with 16gb..

Just played Real Racing 2 HD to check out the graphical upgrades and it's Very impressive. Developers must be licking their chops at this baby.

I won't really do all that much gaming on it either, plan to stream movies and use it for my MLS live pass to watch soccer games. Maybe I'll hold out for the 32gb version, not sure though. How big are the apps of like the basic games like angry birds, plants vs zombies etc?Zeppo wrote:Apparently the graphics for apps designed for the new iPad, due to the higher resolution, may end up being two to three times as large as apps pre- new iPad, so depending on the apps you get and like to keep around on your device you may regret that down the road. I was thinking the 16 too but after looking at my iPhone usage and seeing 64 was overkill like Db said, I went with the 32 and feel comfy with the decision.

Re: Apple and Macs: New products, iMacs, iWork, iLife
I've got a white iPad 2 and went with black on the new one. Reason...when reading books the white background looked terrible against the off white color of the bezel. For some reason that really irritated me. The black one shows fingerprints more but it looks better w the contrast of the white reading screen and it also kind of disappears when watching videos. The white just stands out too much.Rodster wrote:What's the preferred color?

Decisions, decisions. I hate finger prints and love white but I could see how the off white of the bezel would irritate me as well when reading a book. OK i've got some time to decide as i'm going to use my Amex card and I need to wait for the next billing cycle. I may get it at Target as they seem to be pretty decent about exchanges.

Just go to any store that has them on display so you can see for yourself. I like white too. Just couldn't get over the differences in white from screen to bezel. Stupid reason sure...but thats just how anal i am about my electronics.Rodster wrote:Decisions, decisions. Get the black. I've seen some white iPads that look yellow over time.
They're not kidding about the slow charge. Definitely have to charge over night.
The retina display is something to be seen. Very nice.

I have the white.
I would guess as long as I keep my hand clean it won't turn yellow. Who knows what they do out in sportsdan's neck of the woods

Hey now!
I'm trying to remember where I saw them (perhaps at the Apple Store under their lights), but there was definitely a yellowish tint to the iPad. Again, it might be the lighting. Do a google search and there is a lot of concern about whether they turn yellow over time. I'm sure much of it is unfounded, but it's enough to question the validity.

For the same reason I wouldn't want a white bordered tv, I didn't want the white iPad. In addition to the reading aspect, I feel like the white also washes out during watching movies. I just like the darker border for the bright, vibrant screen versus the lighter border.

Re: Apple and Macs: New products, iMacs, iWork, iLife
I am really impressed with the speed of this iPad. It was a concern of mine initially because of the retina display, but I'm seeing web pages load very fast. Even faster than the iPad 2.
With that said, some apps (USA Today) have a bit of a stutter when moving the page up and down. I'm wondering if that will eventually improve with an update. NBA Jam seemed not as smooth as on the iPad 2 as well.

Yeah some stuff isn't going to perform as well right away because of the change in graphics architecture. It should be rectified shortly. Most developers didn't even know for sure there was going to be a new graphics chip and display until we all found out so they've had an entire week to tweak. It'll be fine shortly I'm sure.sportdan30 wrote:I am really impressed with the speed of this iPad. White seems to be popular with some people because it's different.
