You know, I have read a lot of dumb things from white sports reporters, yet I have never felt obligated to officially condemn them. I just assume that everyone knows Skip Bayless is a waste of carbon, and that black people assume the same thing about Jason Whitlock (although he wastes far more carbon).Lancer wrote:I was just disappointed that nobody from the African American community came out and condemned him, like say Al Sharpton.
Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
The anchor probably meant no harm when he said it but the headline, I'm not so sure about. Headlines are written with double entendres all the time. The more provocative, the better. This was probably just a case of some former frat boy using a blatantly derogatory term that he probably thought nothing of back when he was just shooting the sh*t with his frat brothers.
Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
Ya Whitlock is pretty much close to tabloid journalism. I don't know why he gets a pass. During the nfc div. game niners/saints, he makes an unprofessional comment when Crabtree dropped a few passes how he is on the take. What kind of bs is that if you're working for a national sports outlet. Right there he should have been reprimanded. And the tweet was even more stupid since Crabtree scored the first td of that game. if he was really trying to lose on purpose, wouldn't he have dropped that td pass?
He even got into it w/ Warren Sap on Showtime's HBO show, calling him uncoachable when he played.. You got to be really pathetic to rile up a guy like Warren Sapp.

Good to see Rose back for the Bulls. Hopefully Hamilton comes back after the break.

Williams was just a smidge motivated against the Knicks last night, ensuring Lin didn't outplay him for a second straight game.

Funny how fast that dispute got settled.pk500 wrote:
In hindsight, maybe it's a blessing that TimeWarner and MSG still are in a pissing match over rights fees and I can only see the Knicks on TNT, NBA TV and ESPN. Watching every game of this team would raise my blood pressure 15 points.

I'm tired of watching Violet Palmer "try" and officiate an NBA game. She has blown no less than 3 MAJOR calls that have cost the Sixers games this year. She has absolutely no consistency at all. She should not be in the league. Pathetic.

I'm really looking forward to tonight's Heat's game. I don't think getting the Heat team motivated is going to be a tough challenge tonight. If Lin and the Knicks can pull off an upset I say look out.

Are we going to have to deal with the NBA version of the Tebow story all season long?
Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
No, because Lin is actually a good player.wco81 wrote:Are we going to have to deal with the NBA version of the Tebow story all season long?
Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
Lin is a good player. I want to see how he performs against the benchmark team in the NBA. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays well but the Heat are a damn good team when they're cruising and lethal when they are motivated.Brando70 wrote:No, because Lin is actually a good player.wco81 wrote:Are we going to have to deal with the NBA version of the Tebow story all season long?
Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
More than that, it is his good play that is actually responsible for the Knicks wins. Tebow just happened to be the QB when the Broncos one game in spite of his poor play.Brando70 wrote:No, because Lin is actually a good player.wco81 wrote:Are we going to have to deal with the NBA version of the Tebow story all season long?
Lin may fade, come back to earth, or even fail remain in the starting line-up for the rest of the season. But his play in these games he was worth talking about.

Other than both coming off the bench to revive franchises that were on the brink of losing their respective seasons, how the hell are Tebow and Lin alike? Not very.wco81 wrote:Are we going to have to deal with the NBA version of the Tebow story all season long?
-- Tebow was one of the most heralded college football players ever. Won the Heisman. Lin was heralded by no one in college.
-- Tebow played for a national championship team and perennial powerhouse in college. He was on national TV almost every week. Lin played for an Ivy League school and never appeared on national TV once during his college career.
-- Tebow does not appeal to an underrepresented ethnic base in the NFL. Lin does.
-- Tebow was drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft. Lin was undrafted.
-- The Broncos have kept Tebow on their roster since drafting him. Lin was on his third NBA team in two seasons, with stints in the D-League, before catching fire with the Knicks.
-- Tebow is overtly religious, with the famous "Tebowing" gesture. Lin is more reserved publicly about his faith.
The only other common thread between Tebow and Lin is that both play their respective positions unlike any other in their respective leagues.
Otherwise, the Tebow-Lin connection is just another misguided attempt at seven degrees of separation by a lazy media corps.

I don't think the correlation is between the men themselves but more the media and fan reaction to both men.pk500 wrote:Other than both coming off the bench to revive franchises that were on the brink of losing their respective seasons, how the hell are Tebow and Lin alike? Violet still sucks and shouldn't have a job in the league.

Yeah the entire barstool line of websites has some crazy ignorant idiots on it...I don't read through the comments, just the blog posts. Those are entertaining and lack the overall racial bigotry.Diablo25 wrote:Wow, there are some pretty ignorant fools out there posting comments on websites but that is probably the worst one I've seen. I'd gotta go with the Heat. LeBron has taken the reins of the team. D-Wade is playing lights out and Bosh is having a solid year.Lancer wrote:So at the half way point, who's looks like the best team to win it all?

Solid performance by the Heat to shutdown Lin and create turnovers.

The ball hogging competition in NYC is underway and is gonna be entertaining to watch for the rest of the season. Now the only question is who the fall guy will be at the end of the year.
Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
As one website said, Sanity returns. The Heat was Lin's measuring stick and the Heat just smothered the poor guy. If Lin really is the player everyone thinks he is, he'll learn from last night so when they play the next time he won't have similar results. But man the Heat are freakishly good.
