Hell, if Howard Webb had given Man U a penalty and Cahill a red card for his challenge on Welbeck in the 18th minute, Chelsea would've come away with no points.

The panel on the excellent "Football Weekly" podcast available from The Guardian speculated Monday that Capello openly criticized the FA as a means to leave the England job before Euro 2012.miget33 wrote:Capello quits England.

So now that 'Arry performed his Houdini act yet again with the law, is he the prohibitive favorite to take over? Or will a caretaker be appointed through July?

Twitter sage Joey Barton channeled his inner Marvin Gaye with this tweet after Capello resigned:
"No captain and no manager. 4 months from a major championship. What's going on......."
I'm sure a Voltaire or Faulkner quote to describe the situation is forthcoming from the erudite Mr. Barton.

Didn't he get some ridiculous amount of money so far? Good time to walk away, probably realizing that he's not going to look any better after the disastrous WC 10.

Did Capello fire himself on purpose? I say he did.

Barf.
2-1 was flattering for Liverpool who, apart from the last 5 minutes were f'ing garbage in that second half.
Downing had the worst game by a Liverpool player I've seen a long, long time - didn't do anything attacking and didn't even try to help poor Enrique who was getting massacred by Valencia all game long. Pretty impressive work by Downing to stand out as the worst performer in that sh1tshower.
Wee Jay with a rare (but costly) mistake too.

Wasnt a great pass to spearing tho was it? Guy never had a chance other than hoof it first time.
Those 2 quick goals stunned Liverpool who where doing fine up until then but only ever looking to just hold on.
Would have been a much better game if Friggin Rio Ferdinand hadn't got in the way on the first tackle of the game between Suarez and Evra , now that woulda been a catalyst

Sir Ian Darke and ESPNMacca are right: Liverpool needs more scoring options.
Downing was terrible, but Carroll wasn't far behind. Is there a bigger transfer bust in the 20-year history of the Premier League? Carroll consumes space -- that's it.

I'll keep the Demba Brothers -- Ba and Papiss Demba Cisse -- in the Northeast, thanks.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
I just re-read my own twitter timeline and it was like re-living a horror movie.
I've been arguing all season that Liverpool's place in the table is fortunate given their goal difference, and it's not improving.
Yes, Downing was a disaster and Spearing had his worst game in ages. I was most horrified at Gerrard, though. I know he's aging and still rounding into form from a long lay off, but I've seen him influence games through thick and thin for a decade. He was beyond anonymous. Charlie Adam had more impact in 10 minutes than Gerrard did all day, and that's not something we can afford.
People seem to be either exasperated or irritated at the Suarez-Evra drama. I thought it was amusing as hell. If you believe the FA ruling, then Suarez is more a villain than ever. If you find the FA report to be a fatuous justification of punishment meted out to appease outside observers without a reasonable shred of evidence and based on slander and exaggeration, then it was understandable that Suarez refused the handshake. Winding up the old Scot drunkard is only an ancillary benefit.
Nice slate of games today. Great EPL Saturday.

Entertaining game between Sun'Land and Arsenal as the visitors found themselves down by a goal after Mertesacker dropped like a sack of potatoes untouched with about 15 minutes to go. Ironically his substitute Ramsey tied the game and just like a fairytale, Henry on his last game playing for Arsenal before he goes back to the States wins in in ET. A tie would have been more fitting for what transpired on the field but there's this bond between the Frenchman and his fans that make him such a clutch scorer over the years.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
Wish I'd taped that instead of watching this piece of garbage. I think Newcastle have completed more passes to Spurs than themselves. Not even a notion of defense.10spro wrote:Entertaining game between Sun'Land and Arsenal as the visitors found themselves down by a goal after Mertesacker dropped like a sack of potatoes untouched with about 15 minutes to go. Ouch. Ryan Taylor was hurt, but he's not the second coming of a sober Tony Adams, so that shouldn't have made that much of a difference.Jimmydeicide wrote:Big game for your lot pk... ooh 1 nil... as i was saying big game fo... 2 nil
You're just lucky that Spurs didn't have the same shooting boots on last Monday night!
