The compressed free-agency period due to labor strife helped generate oodles of preseason hype for the NFL and NBA. Both leagues should consider making the tight timetable a permanent change. The fluid player moves resembled a commodity trading floor and were a hell of a lot of fun to follow.

The Tebow game on Sunday got twice as many viewers as the BCS game last night.

Alabama-LSU generated the lowest ratings in BCS history:

I want a playoff as much as the next guy, but that was one heckuva dominant defensive performance by Alabama...and I'm a die hard Auburn fan. If you thought it was boring, then you are likely from a conference that HAS no defense, and just trades touchdowns...lol.

There's not a team in the country that could've overcome that stifling defensive performance tonight...not one.
Oklahoma State begs to differ. Too bad it's not college basketball, where these debates are answered on the court.

But hey, just 7 1/2 more months until we begin another odyssey toward meaningless exhibition games known as bowls and a championship game picked by computers, and coaches and media who don't even watch all the games. I'm erect with anticipation.

At least the real football season can resume this weekend. Thank God.

The problem with Okee State's whining (which I understand PERFECTLY from the screwjob Auburn got at the hands of an overrated and underperforming Oklahoma in 2004), is that it would have been the Champion, not the loser, that would've been replaced by them, which would've been an epic screwjob, too. I was one of those who were crying 'foul' on behalf of Okee State that Alabama got into the game over them, but after last night, the team that didn't deserve to be there was the one who rode in on the #1 ranking.

I think Okee State should've gotten a shot, but...well, it's a fustercluck. Bring on a playoff.

Congrats to Alabama for its well-deserved place at the top of college football. LSU and Bama ranked 1 and 2 in the country in points allowed by defense, and were both top 20 in points scored average. LSU's schedule was amazing and they beat a whole host of ranked teams, so they were definitely deserving of the 1 rank before the game. Bama whipped them plain and simple and showed that they are the best team in the country.

How 3 teams from the same division of the same conference can be in the top 5 is shady IMO. There is no doubt that the SEC is the absolute best college football conference, but the rankings are just silly when you can have 3 out of 6 teams in one division be ranked in the top 5. Post-season college football is a complete sham and is a slap in the face to fairness and the spirit of competition. The NCAA desperately needs a playoff system for division I. Of course 99% of the population knows and believes this.

Well the BCS game was on ESPN while the Denver game was on CBS?

But coming at the end of a long bowl season and a long NFC wildcard weekend, maybe people were fed up with football.
