I love the Pacman. But Marquez who looked a lot bigger than when he fought Mayweather, showed his strength and conditioning tonight and worked better this time around, deserved better luck. Manny was the aggressor but Marquez was brilliant in his counter punching keeping Pacquiao from getting inside. Every time the Pacman tried he was welcomed by some crystal clear right hands. I thought Pacquiao was perhaps guilty of trying to force the fight tonight, which left him open to Marquez’s superb timing. Marquez's defense was iron clad in this fight and he was good with his footwork too. Manny got away with this one.

It will probably be taken down soon Pac vs Marquez III its unlisted and obscure title. Enjoy the full fight, keep it too yourselves. You will only be able to find with link.

I had the fight even after 10 rounds, with Pacquiao winning the last two rounds. HBO's announcers may have been pro-Pacquiao early in the fight, but they were correct in saying Nacho Beristain NEVER should have told JMM that he was winning late in the fight. Marquez took his foot off the gas in the 11th and 12th rounds, and it cost him the fight.

Marquez's movement and counterpunching confused Pacquiao, but Manny's landed shots were crisp and effective. He also was busier, and that sways judges, including me.

Anyone who called this decision a "robbery" or a "sham" is taking a runaway ride on the hyperbole train. This bout was neither. It was a very, very close fight.

Marquez won most of his rounds in a more convincing fashion than Pacquiao, which leads many to think JMM was a clear winner. But rounds are to be judged INDIVIDUALLY, not as a body of work gaining momentum over time.

So even though more of Marquez's 10-9's looked more impressive than Pacquiao's, the score remain just that -- 10-9.

I also think there is no question that Mayweather is No. 1 pound-for-pound in the world right now.

Mayweather DESTROYED Marquez at this weight two years ago. Pacquiao escaped.

Pacquiao has shown vulnerability three times against a great counterpuncher like Marquez. Mayweather is an even better counterpuncher than Dinamita, so I can't see Pacquiao topping Money in a fight or on any P4P list.

And now Arum wants to duck PBF? Manny needs to take charge and say he wants the fight with Floyd.....or does he really want it now? http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/72 ... talk-fight

I think Pacquiao wants a fourth Marquez fight before he wants Mayweather, to eliminate two areas of doubt.

One, there's a healthy portion of the boxing fan base that thinks Marquez won at least two of the fights. Pacquiao wants to build the only convincing victory in the four-fight set, as the first three fights were very close. I don't think he can beat Marquez by a knockout or even a wide margin, as Marquez's counterpunching is Pacman's Kryptonite.

Two, Pacquiao needs to convince himself that he can beat the second-best counterpuncher of this era, Marquez, before he believes he has a chance against the best counterpuncher of this generation, Mayweather.

Doing well my brother. Hope the Kelly Clan can say the same. Please say "HI" to Sheila for me. Time flies my friend. Dom's growing like a weed. He sport's #20 after a young Wolverine from your neck of the woods. Dom's still throwing punches every now and then

Looks like he'll be a USAFA Cadet in 2013. He wants to box and play baseball for the Falcons. They seem more than happy to welcome him. He tested out very well.

GREAT shots and video, man!

And I GUARANTEE you I will be at West Point in 2013 to see Dom fight if work doesn't interfere. Mark that down. My neighbor is a West Point grad who was wounded in Iraq and now serves in Kandahar. But I'll still root for Dom in the fight! :)

Looking forward to Cotto-Margarito II. A lot of bad blood still between these two since their controversial fight. Cotto better start strong in the first 3 rounds like their last bout because the Tijuana tornado will be tough to handle in the latter rounds if he's able again to absorb the heavy punches from Cotto. My concern for Margarito is whether his right eye is healed enough since the beating he received from Pacquiao last time they fought. Should be a war.

This was as good as I have seen Miguel Cotto in a long time. He boxed well, he boxed smartly, he made the necessary adjustments and looked strong tonight. At the stoppage round I had Cotto ahead by 7 points, it was just difficult for Margarito to counter punch with one eye only. Wouldn't be surprised of a third bout between them.

Cotto looked good, but that was more because of Margarito's limitations. Tony always has been a plodder, but I've never seen him slower than last night. I can't recall seeing him throw one combination of more than two punches.

Plus Cotto alternated directions with his movement, unlike the first fight when he constantly moved to his left, into the path of Margarito's right hand.

The doctor made a smart stoppage. Tony's right eye was swollen shut. Plus Tony and trainer Garcia had to know New York state would keep close watch on Margarito's damaged right eye, as the state athletic commission only licensed Margarito for the fight about 10 days ago due to concerns over the eye.

I don't want to see a third fight between Cotto and Margarito. Cotto is clearly better; nothing would change in a third bout. Plus there are so many appetizing opponents at 154 for Cotto -- Canelo, Kirkland, Angulo, Lara, Bundrage, Dzinziruk, etc.

Delvin Rodriguez looked good in his rematch against Wolak. I like Delvin and hope he gets a shot at a belt at 154, which is becoming the loaded, marquee weight class in boxing. Brandon Rios was a bit underwhelming, and I'm not sold on Mike Jones at all. Too much shoeshine.

Very strong 2012 class named to the Boxing Hall of Fame today: Thomas “Hitman” Hearns, Mark “Too Sharp” Johnson, ring announcer Michael Buffer, trainer Freddie Roach, broadcaster Al Bernstein and journalist Michael Katz.

I'll be in Canastota next for the induction ceremony next June! The Hitman is among my favorite boxers in history.

So now that PBF gets to stay out of jail until June 1, do we get the PBF - Pac Man fight on May 5?

Sounds like Arum is scared, coming up with more b.s. http://www.boxingnews24.com/2012/01/aru ... more-93716

As a boxing fan, I am so sick of this. Maybe what PBF needs to do is take the challenge directly to Pac Man. Would love to see him just say that he would even waive his demand for testing (or back down a bit on the wanting it up to the fight), and make it about manhood. Sometimes that is what gets a fighter to tell the promoter that is the only fight he wants. It worked for Apollo Creed in Rocky 2!

No. Arum doesn't want to work with Golden Boy, so he'll keep Pacquiao in-house. Expect Pacquiao-Marquez IV sometime this spring. It will be a MUCH more entertaining fight than Pacquiao-Mayweather.

Everyone salivating for Pacquiao-Mayweather knows little about boxing. It's a fantastic matchup of statistics and rankings, but a terrible matchup of styles. Mayweather will dance, roll the shoulder and counter Pacquiao's thrusts all night and earn a narrow unanimous decision in a dull fight. Mayweather is not a warrior like Marquez.

Ouch PK, that hurts buddy. I watch my share of boxing and agree on the styles not making a great fight. I think the reason I want this fight so bad is just because of who these guys are (two of the top pound for pound). I for one think that what starts out as a boxing match, could turn into a fight. I also am sick of hearing about the "what if." Make it happen, and then move on...

Steve-o: I wasn't pointing my reply at you. Sorry if it was interpreted that way. I respect your keen knowledge of the sweet science.

I'm exasperated this fight hasn't happened, and I've reached the point where I don't care if it ever does.

Mayweather-Pacquiao will be a fight that everyone anticipates, including me. But it will be a Catch-22 fight for the sport. People who don't follow boxing deride the sport because this fight can't get made. But if it is made, casual or non-boxing fans will see a bout that evolves either into a dance-and-dodge contest or a chess match and think: "Yep, this is why I watch MMA now. Boxing sucks."

Floyd Mayweather is one of the most lethal fighters of this generation. He's also one of the most boring to watch unless you appreciate seeing a master technician and tactician at work. Casual or non-boxing fans -- not you, Steve! -- don't know those nuances enough to appreciate them, for the same reason that casual football fans probably call a 10-7 defensive tussle a snoozefest.

I think most people want this fight to happen just to see Pacman floor PBF. How do you think Pacman's relentless and unorthodox style of punches coming from anywhere would match up against PBF? And does Pacman have the power to hurt PBF? I'm one of those casual's so forgive the dumb questions. :)

Then people will be disappointed. Pacquiao will not knock down or knock out Mayweather.

Mayweather is the best defensive fighter of this generation. He's the best defensive fighter I've seen since Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker. Floyd will make Pacquiao miss, and he will use all of his tricks -- hand speed, footwork and the shoulder roll -- to frustrate Manny and neutralize his ability to punch from awkward and different angles.

One recent common opponent portends the result of a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. Mayweather DESTROYED Juan Manuel Marquez in 2009, winning 11 of 12 rounds en route to a landslide decision. Meanwhile, Pacquiao has struggled in three bouts against JMM, winning two by the thinnest of margins and drawing one. Pacquiao just barely edged Marquez this fall.

Marquez is a superb counter-puncher, one of the best of this generation, and that style causes problems for Pacquiao. Floyd Mayweather might be the best counter-puncher in boxing today. Bad news for Manny.

Even Pacquiao's trainer, Hall of Famer Freddie Roach, admits Mayweather will be tough to beat because of his counter-punching style. From a New York Times interview:

Q. If Pacquiao and Mayweather do meet, what will your strategy be?

A. We do have trouble with the counterpunching style, and Floyd is a great counterpuncher. We have to go in with a good game plan. If one guy averages 85 punches a round and one guy averages 15 punches a round, I think the 85 will beat the 15. The thing is, Mayweather is very precise and very conservative with his punches. But he’s very accurate and he lands good shots. There’s no doubt it’s a tough fight. It’s a challenge and that’s why I like it. I like getting ready for challenges. And Mayweather is the biggest challenge for me and Manny.

Paul, no problem my friend. I too am so frustrated with the b.s. that surrounds the possibility of this fight.

I have to say, I have never been a fan of PBF's antics, cannot stand the "Money" persona and all that. I do marvel though at his incredible skill. It really wouldn't surprise me if a PBF-Pac Man fight (if it ever happened) ended up with PBF knocking out Manny. I don't think the KO would come early, but I think it would happen.
